While it's understood and not surprising that you personally are rarely getting repeat calls from the same number, be advised that some of us are. Usually I move quickly to block numbers but when I don't, I am seeing instances of the number repeating. Yes, eventually they call back spoofing a different CLID but it seems to buy me a few days and I like the exercise. (Plus, I'm feeding the block list of a VOIP PBX that serves many other users.)
A cursory browsing of 800 notes will find recent complaints about numbers that are repeatedly hammering the same victims hard. I occasionally spot check numbers I blocked long ago, and see continued activity on them in 800notes.
My conclusion is that some of the nuisance can be dealt with by blocking, and 800notes is a great way to share info about such numbers.
While you may be seeing an increase in calls from numbers not yet logged by 800notes, there are a variety of reasons. Most people don't report numbers that call them. Especially not logging a call where they did not answer or were not there to receive it. Spoofing may have the side effect of "spreading it thin", so those numbers that are reported are virtually noise. Personally, I think more spoofing is done, and much more will be done, to avoid NoMoRobo and other call blocking technologies.
In that respect, perhaps you have a point. A number-centric site doesn't help condense perpetrator information when they are engaging in wide-spread spoofing. The number becomes less relevant in finding out who's placing for the purposes of reporting and suing. Unfortunately, to make it more perpetrator-centric, it would require a higher percentage of people going beyond the number and trying to find out how's behind the call - and getting that information cross-referenced against similar reports with other numbers. However, many here are unlikely to gather the information required to make that possible.
But making the site irrelevant? No, even as spoofing expands, I don't think 800notes is going to hit that point anytime soon as long as there are volunteers willing to assist those with concerns - notably the fake IRS/debt/etc type scams. As long as the volunteers stay relevant, so will the site.

Look into "first ring suppression." It silences the first ring of every call. The caller will hear it just before they're disconnected. You'll hear nothing. If you're in the room, you'll see the phone light up, read "caller blocked" and go dark but, no ring.

I find 800notes to be very helpful and am glad of its existence. I had my identity stolen six years ago and am still picking up the debris that the lo-life bustards left behind. Whenever I get a strange number calling me, I get on here and look it up to get the scoop.

Many of you may not be aware but the FTC ordered the phone companies to block robocalls at their switches last June. Unfortunately the big three old style carriers think they are exempt while almost every cable company has provided free technology to their customers to block robo calls. I think 800 notes provides a valuable service by identifying numbers and scams.
When I get a phone call now it is probably one I want rather than Laura from credit services wanting to steal my identify. The call blocker tech provided by my cable company also works great in political season. No robo calls from Senator X to vote Yes on some lame proposition. Or the phony political opinion surveys where they are trying to ID voters for their candidate.
If you don't think a site like this is relavent then why did you post your rant here? Oh, and I have never seen the word "losing" spelled as "loosing". Are you a bit of a "loose" or "lose" cannon? LOL!
Many of us are unaware because the FTC gave no such order and its commissioners could not if they wanted to. I've been over the FCC declaratory rulings repeatedly, including with you in late July. Your misleading remarks were off topic then, and history repeats.
I may be taking an unpopular view on this post. JTF got some discussion going on a worthwhile topic, and this has turned into a Connoisseur's Post. I sse posts from both registered Regulars I admire (and don’t see as often), like Psy, and some "Steadies" like Juile and CalGirl, whose posts I follow. JTF presented a view that struck me as honest and straight ahead, and not in a way that shaded anyone that didn't agree.
The typo was an "oops", but since post was coherent, the typo is just that - an errata, if you see what I mean. I have made typos in headlines. Maybe that is why over-looking this one seems OK in my world.
Lexi raises a point about contradictions. I see what Lexi is getting at, and my view is that since JTF says he/she is getting value out of the site, and is not trashing the site or users, his/her thoughts about the nature of the site seem to fall into the realm of "food for thought".

I look on 800notes each time I've received a questionable/unknown/private/"out of area" call, & it's always been helpful for me to get better clues on those trying to annoy or con me. So great to know this site's here & be able to learn something about crazy calls than still be in the dark about them!
While I agree some scammer callers who try and put on a show over the phone could qualify as sociopaths, what only gives one the feeling these sleazeballs are experts in psychological warfare is the one on the receiving end being uninformed and uneducated on their the scammer's ways. 800 notes reports and the regulars assist in information and education, but it also has a lot to do with taking that information and doing your own research, self education. Disregarding trolls, shills and regular's "fan club" (stalkers), 800 notes is filled with two types, those who seek help and want to learn and those who want to seek help and do nothing (the single reporters, the fools who start a thread rather than search the number and post accordingly, etc..). These scammers do indeed come across as smart and witty, but once you understand their game and educate yourself with facts alone, you already have them on the ropes. Facts are a scammer's Kryptonite. As soon as you hit them with facts they duck, dodge, ignore and become repetitive and pathetic.

Even in the presence Caller ID spoofing, 800notes (and similar sites) are still relevant. Two reasons: (1) it can identify non-scammers so legit calls can go through (Walgreens prescription reminder robo-calls from 402-220-1100 for example), and (2) it is much easier for law enforcement to go after Caller ID spoofers than DNC list violators. The latter comes from two factors: (a) There are many fewer points where Caller ID is generated (maybe 1000 or so phone companies) than originating phone calls (millions of phone subscribers) so the FCC can pressure a badly-behaving VOIP company (one with lax Caller ID anti-spoofing policy on its subscribers) with the threat of cutting them off from the phone network. By contrast, it is quickly obvious from anyone who spends time on this site that the DNC list is hopelessly unenforceable. The other factor, (b), is that Caller ID spoofing is clear evidence of bad faith. It is much easier to convince a judge to levy zillion dollar fines when records show a million phone calls from a million randomly generated Caller ID's; no one can claim that is an innocent mistake.
Scammer: "Oops, I'm just a legit business with a mis-configured phone system. This is unfair persecution wrecking my livelihood."
Prosecutor: "Here is a list of a bazillion spoofed caller ID calls, and with a search warrant we seized a computer that runs a script to deliberately spoof the caller ID."
Judge: "The fine is one jillion dollars, and if you run a phone scam again, you are going to the clink."

I get calls at least twice a day. I always check 800 notes on the number. I am a SENIOR citizen and i appreciate this cite. Thank you 800 notes!

This site is only as relevant as the participation of its users. If, as users, we don't report numbers and update any FACTUAL info as it's available, this site will no longer be relevant.
