Ringless Voicemail
- iHATEspam!| 2 repliesFirst happened a few months ago with what I call the "Tim" call, a recording saying he was getting back to me about that mega-dollar loan. Pure crap. Been called a few times since on different numbers. Blocking the number does no good since it never rings - just straight to voicemail.
March 7th, I get a call (also straight to voicemail) a recording from a Dave Harries, hawking new "Ringless Voicemail", and to go to Voicemail Income.com (I have not). He said you get more sales this way. I did verify that there are a couple of apps like this per Verizon.
My quest is to find out how to block this crap. - Mary| 2 repliesFirst, it would be a good idea to post under the number that called. Next, I have a suggestion that worked for me on my landline. I cancelled my voicemail as provided by my phone company and bought a phone with a built in answering system. Then I bought a call blocker. It works great. I can block anything and numbers such as this can't go to voicemail because they have to get past my call blocker to get to the answering machine. On my cell I have the option to block with or without voicemail, so I just select "without voicemail" to block these idiots. Don't know if this helps but it worked for me.
- Mary| 1 replyJust wondering if the "thumbs down" are because the topic is not appropriate?
- Enough Already!!| 2 repliesDo you have AT&T? I do and when I block a scam number, if they call back it does not ring or show that I'm being called. Only when I go to my voicemail it will show "blocked" then the number I blocked and they can still leave messages even though they are blocked.
So stupid! That's not blocking a phone number, AT&T!
That's just not letting it ring. They must be getting big bucks somehow from all these Indian, Pakistani, Filipino and other 3rd world country boiler room scam call centers.
Just follow the money trail. In this day and age there is technology that will not allow any spoofed calls not showing their true identity to come through so the question is - why aren't they using it? Money. That's why. Follow the money trail.
I also leave a generic voicemail greeting so just in case they don't have my name or number, I'm not giving it to them.
This is my greeting: Leave a message and I will call you back as soon as possible. - BigA replies to Enough Already!!That isn't what the OP was talking about.
- BigA replies to iHATEspam!| 1 replyI ran a quick search on "ringless voicemail" It is advertised on a lot of sites, usually with someone's name attached to to and very little other identifying information. They claim it is a legal way to call cell phones. Not sure how the technology works, but if it is an automated procedure I would think it is still illegal (they claim it isn't). Looks like the crooks have gotten one up on us. No ring, no caller ID, no way to complain.
- BigA replies to MaryNo there are a few registered trolls here that like to disrupt things. The thumbs down is one of the more childish things they do.
- CelticDragon replies to BigAI'd say you're right. Claiming it's 'legit' makes it all the more suspicious in my eyes

This website says its ringless voicemail is an automated Lead Generation Magnet, freeing your telemarketing staff from repetitive out-bound cold calling by “dropping” the same message into hundreds of prospect’s voicemail boxes instantly.
Here is their picture of how that magnet works

The webpage only describes its benefits :
http://smartwebbusinessservices.com/how-it-works/
--- quote begin :
A {trademark} ringless voicemail campaign can be mounted within days for as little as $0.20 per voicemail message, creating call-backs in a matter of minutes.
--- quote end.
=== So it's not free to the caller. That's a lot to charge, and most high-volume telemarketers will not pay for it. Nor will scammers, except those who use stolen credit or debit cards. But we all know that, over time, prices drop. - CelticDragon replies to WilliamThat doesn't sound legit at all-technically that would be a cold voicemail, which would be viewed the same way as a cold call-at least in my opinion
- Bluize1961 replies to Mary| 1 replyThe number that was listed as the callback (since the phone never rang there was no listing in received calls) was 900-999-9999. A bogus number. So you see posting the number is basically useless.
- BigA replies to Bluize1961But yet there is a thread here with a post around 5 hours old in it totaling around 8 pages https://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-900-999-9999
- MacGregory| 2 repliesI don't see how this could improve a business. Personally, I wouldn't buy anything from any business that employed this tactic.
- lekana replies to MacGregory| 1 replymost of these people arent really selling anything and dont care to. what they sell is 1- finding live phone numbers to then compile caller lists to sell to more marketers 2- if you call back to rant, which they hope you do, you can actually be calling an overseas 800-like number which gives them the money, billing you even hundreds of dollars. theres nothing you can do about it. 3- some will start texting you relentlessly if they know youre a working number, with links containing viruses, contact list stealers, small apps that locate you, take photos without you knowing, ...or just fill up your phone with crap to be annoying.
it has little to do with a product or selling. thats a total scam to get you to look, pick up, read, listen or roll your eyes. its about finding live phones, networked phones, information, data and stuff to grab like locusts to sell or use.
dont ever answer. ever. block, block, block, block. if you hve to do it for 20 years, do it. if you have to get a land line and pay $14.00 a month to get your serious-life calls, so you can have calm discussions with decent call block, caller ID, and an unlisted number you give to only those you want, do that. cell phones are the Wild West and if you lose it you lose your life. there are few protection laws nd in this age of disposable phones its nuts. at least with a lnd line for back up you have a place to control nd see whats what. not perfect but you dont have everything else there, too - its just a phone - William replies to WilliamThis number thread mentioned "Slydial"
