FBI Warns About New Scam Telephone Calls

The FBI is warning residents of Tennessee, Florida, Alabama and Mississippi about a new scam targeting customers of Regions Bank.

According to a notice issued on November 23,  residents have received automated telephone calls asking them to visit a fraudulent Web site and verify customer information, such as their user name and password.

Regions spokesman Tim Deighton said customers who receive such a call or who provided information on the Web site should contact the bank at 800-REGIONS or by sending an e-mail to fraud@regions.com.

This same thing happened to me from a Credit Union  in Arizona....Never have had account with them or even heard  of the company....Called their corporate and fraud numbers to let them know about it....They said to go back to their website and forward a copy of the e-mail to their frad dept.
and that they were aware of a bogus letter that had been sent out.

Okay here are quite a few to go thru,

i have had a company called wolf and abrahms call and send letters thru the mail to me about debts that never were ever. i called the line only to get some stupid guy who soounded like he was on drugs answered the phone.

i told him my attorney would be contacting him to settle this and never heard from him again.

new one is this 201-373-8371 that keeps calling my phone. i told them i am on the do not call list and if they call again they will be sued period.

then there is the one that calls you to ask about a free cruise trip for only 100 dollars. if that is not bad enough we get the magazine people as well. i have changed my number we will see how safe it is.

I received a call from 231-244-2072 stating that they were a sister company to VISA, and gave me the last 4 digits on my check card.  She also stated my address (which I would not verify).  When I would not say "okay" and instead responded "I hear you" when she wanted to make sure I was with her, she got aggressive.  I told her that I was not interested and please remove my name from their call list, thank you very much, and hung up.  She immediately called me back and said "with that attitude, I don't think so", then hung up on me.  I am concerned that the callers from this number are scamming others and am really concerned that they had personal information on me.  However, while searching for this information I came across this site which is warning customers of Regions Bank about scams.  I hold a consumer loan with regions bank, and contacted them through their web site 3 days ago.  Perhaps this is where the breech in security is.

    PayCheck-to-PayCheck Non Home Owner
I received a call at 5.52 p.m 12/13/07 from someone who sounded Indian saying he wanted to speak to Mr. blablabla. Funny that my name is not listed in the phone book. But since I rent  an apartment with a family member with the same last name, I asked for the first name of the person and he said Peter. Then I knew this was a scammer, since we all in the household have deep-african-far-away from English first names. I asked him what he wanted, he said I had a mortgage from American Mortgage Company in California far way on the west coast. I told him I had none as I'm nothing but a renter, who's not looking to buy a home anytime soon (my relation is also not close either) and that I was worried about his call and needed a name and number since there's so much ID theft going on.  I also informed him the conversation was being recorded(a bluff!). Boy you won't beleive the scammer, he hung up pronto in a manner typical of all scammers when challenged. Again our phone is on the "do not call" list and we would file a complaint with FTC shortly against American Mortgage. I'm cool because every quarter I check my detailed credit report for free and a summary 24/7 with my credit card company.  My message to you folks out there is stand up to the scammers who are nothing but cowardly bloodly theives! Also I live on the east coast and if I want a mortgage I can get it from my banks  down here that I have maintained excellent relationships with right from college.  So let every one beware of this new scam. We honest hard working people should not fall for them any longer, because I think even if they're considered "smart", they are not invincible,if you ptotect your personal data and face up to them. You soon find they have less than half the normal human brain.

Last year I applied for a 12 month no interest loan/credit card. I have good credit and was approved.  I have since paid off the loan/cc and requested a statement reflecting a zero balance and no finance charges.  I have received the statement.  I'm glad there are no problems.

Here's the kicker........when I received the credit card/account information only my first name was correct,  the last name referred to the company I worked for.  I called customer service and asked them how could they approve a loan with such  incorrect information.  The rep said all they needed was the social security number the name didn't matter!!!!!! ??????  WHAT?

How the heck can this sort of policy exist in the banking and credit industry?  One hears on the news how Americans are so in debt with their credit etc.....  Its no wonder as it appears easy to commit fraud.

Its beyond belief this industry has these huge holes in them.  No triple check etc?  Is there anyone from this industry that explain why this hole hasn't been corrected?    Why are they so anxious to give away money?  I'm sure you will have a captive ( no pun intended) audience.

I've since enrolled in credit protection reports via my Discover Card and have not received any un warranted credit apps.

    Good luck

when i get those calls, i tell them to hold on the wife is the one they need to talk to and then i put the phone in a drawer or closedt. every 3-4 minutes i'll pick up the p hone and say she is coming washing her hands off. then i  put the phone back in closet. this will go on for about 30minutes. then i'll say something else came up and she is going to be just another minute. and you geussed it back to the drawer they go. after i have wasted half and hour of their time they usually don't ever call us back until they hire someone new and give them an old call list. but hey it's fun while it last.
