Scammers Impersonate FTC, Promise Phony Sweepstakes Prizes
Someone who claims to work for the Federal Trade Commission calls to inform you that you have won a lottery or sweepstakes. To receive the prize, all you have to do is pay the taxes and insurance. The caller asks you to wire money or send a check for an amount between $1,000 and $10,000. What should you do? Don’t send money or account information, and immediately report the incident to the real Federal Trade Commission.

- TheresaI am so sorry I don't have the number but it is area code 707 for what that's worth. They called and asked for my husband this morning. I said ummm it's 10 a.m most people are at WORK. He asked for my husbands cell phone number and I refused to give it to him. He said he was an agent with the Federal Trade Commission and since my husband paid his taxes on time that we were put in a lottery. Said we won 2.5 million dollars. LOL I acted very excited about this and said I would talk to my husband later and could I have his name and number. He told me Phillip then quickly changed it to John Phillips. In broken english he was saying something about a Law firm in Georgia. I took down his name and number *YEAH RIGHT* and told him how excited I was and my husband would call him right back. If he calls again I will definetly write that 707 number down and post it here.
Oh I asked him what his title was and he said "agent" I said what type of agent? He couldn't give me any sort of title etc.... - TheresaGot the number correct now....(702) 490-5360 that is the number my husband is suppose to call. I will report it now.

- SandraI had a call Jan. 10th 2012 from a David Rothchild claimming he was Vice President of his company. He was calling to tell me that I had just won the American Sweepstakes cash prize. It was not for first place winnings, but for second place and it was still alot of money. Four Hundred Fifty Thounsand Dollars. He then gave me his direct phone number 646-657-2772 and told me to call him at anytime if I needed anything.David gave me a case no. and mentioned to me that if anyone calls inquiring me about the cash prize and wanted my case no. not to give it to them. David mentioned with all the scam jobs going around that they should be able to give me my case no. David then mentioned to me that he was receiving my info. and he was on the line to a Federal Officer in Washington D.C. David then gave me a phone no. to Michael Bennett in WDC 202-621-2434 (Federal Agent) to verify my winnings.Michael Bennett was not in so I talked to Federal Agent Robert Davis. David mentioned to me that was to setup my payments for a insurance bond, I was to pay to a bank. American Sweepstakes was going to pay the other one thousand and twenty five dollars.
After talking to David I did some calling around and if anyone gets one of these calls call this no. and report any scam you come across 877-382-4357. have all the info. you can get from these scam artist. If you get sweepstakes letters in the mail again claiming you won money take the letter and envelope to your local post office. They will then send it to postal inspection scam section.

- I received the same scammer call from 202-580-2800. I called them back from a spoofed number and told them I had missed their call, they asked for may name and I said Jimmy Carter. They didn't catch it. These people are trying to scam the Ederly, it seems to have started when my mother in law started getting mail from Reader's Digest and Publisher's Clearing House. Are these 'respectable' companies selling their mailing lists now?
- j j bernardoA Nora Roberts supposedly from Miami, FL called an elderly friend of mine and advised her that she won a sweepstakes, of over a million dollars.... All she had to do was go to her bank and pay the taxes on this money.... The number used in this scam is 1-800-940-9168.... This number can be traced, except by the Police or FBI... A woman answers the phone "How can I help you"? She gives no information regarding the company name, etc. and hangs up on you.... I have reported this to the FBI, and others like it.... These people need to be behind bars..!!!!!
- DebbieAn elderly neighbor called me last night concerned about receiving a call from DAvid Simmons of the FCPA with a Washington DC phone number 202-580-2122 telling her she won a prize in the amount of $385,000 but to claim it, she has to send $2,850.00. This poor woman has been the victim of 3 previous scams and thank God she had the sense to call me first. The toll-free # she was to call to claim her prize is 866-978-5970. I just called the # and a recording of "Leave a message after the beep" was all I got. Please help others especially the elderly by offering to make calls on their behalf or stress with them NOT to send money to anyone. These people who prey on the elderly need to be stopped.

- SilkWe can add these 2 numbers as well, 2024702938 and 8669785919. They just called me today with this BS... LOL!!! I knew it was a scam!!!
- Falcon1| 1 replyJust got my call this morning from David Downey, Dept. of Commerce , Washington D C, 202-470-3945, 2nd place winning of $450,000.00, I was to contact a Leonard Wolf at Prudential Ins. in New York at 866-978-5979 or on the direct line (cell phone) at 646-289-8334 with my case # of PM5350LV12 to arrange a courier since my insurance time had elapsed. This was a prize on behalf of American Sweepstakes Network. Mr. Wolf was busy with a client and when he did call me back from his cell phone number above I didn't answer. from calling him on the 866 # to him calling me back it had given me enough time to read the previous 3 pages here!!!! Thank You all, without all the comments, I could have gotten scammed and didn't!!!!!
- Edouard Saint-clair replies to Falcon1I received the same exact call this morning (A10:00) from Mr Fred Saunders, this time, and he advised me to call the branch Manager at Prudential, Mr Leonard Wolf (# 646-289-8334) in New York, where I live. He deals with Consumer Affairs and is willing to protect me and helps me collect my $450,000. He also gave me a claim # ES4732-LV12. Recall that I've also tried the 646 # but at no avail. Goodness gracious! What a stunt! And here I was, already thinking about alimony for my wife, asking if she deserves it or not...lol.
- CTCMy mom just received a call from a Edward Saunders at 202-470-3945 claiming she won 450,000 and he was calling from the Department of Commerce. Gave her a claim number and told her to call a number that was supposed to be a Prudential Office and take out life insurance for 5 days until she receives the money because they don't want anything to happen to her. WTF are these ppl crazy This fake prudential office would have taken her info and then she would be a victim of identity theft!!!!
