- EmmieIt's not nearly as imaginative as your suggestions, but it's effective: When I hear the tell-tale pause, I don't even wait for them to mispronounce my name, I give them a cheery "No, thank you, goodbye," and hang up.
I was a telemarketer for one day (!!!) and I really appreciated the people who didn't make me go through the whole spiel before they said no. - anon replies to MaryAgreed.
There are hundreds of ways to have fun with a telemarketer, but suicide is NOT a joke. - Hermanus replies to Chris"Cemetery" is spelled with an E, not an A. I used to make this mistake too, so this is why I am telling you.
- doci am a person with impaired hearing, so i don't talk on phone, but i get all kinds
of stuff in the mail cremation outfits, how inexpensive their services are in contrast
to regular funerals.....
if there is a postage paid return envelope enclosed, i reply with:
yes you are right. funerals are expensive as opposed to your services, but, i am
way ahead of you on that.
thinking my remains would be their problem after they finish with it, i decided to
will my remains to science. would you believe these ingrates are contesting the
will? if i cannot prevail in courts to make them take my remains, i am all yours.
(actually i got reply which informed me they though i had a sense of humor....) - Melonie replies to tlcpetmommyyou [***]. first - this board isn't about collection agencies. second, yes, you do have a contract and an obligation to the collection agency. contracts are legally assignable, so any rights the original creditor had now belong to the collection agency who purchased them; any duties the original creditor had to you are now duties of the collection agency who purchased them. it works that way for lots of junk. landlord sells the building - you still have to pay rent and all your other lease obligations, new landlord has the same duties to you. buy a house? your mortgage will likely be sold within days to a new lender; your terms stay the same, but you have the same obligation to pay the new owner of the loan, and they have the same obligations to you as the original creditor. And while I despise the methods they use, I hate even more the people who don't pay their bills and push my percentage rates and fees up through the roof - I get punished for the jerks who don't pay, so I'm not very sympathetic to harassment people get by creditors (while I know there ARE some exceptions to people who truly need a break, most of the time that isn't the case, or people are temporarily unable to pay, let it go to collections, get back on their feet and then just never both to pay - if you can afford to eat out every day, or get your hair/nails/etc done, then you can afford to make some payments on your legit debts). Stop whining - if it's beyond the statute of limitations, then look it up online and follow the procedures to get them to take a hike, don't complain - you got something for free and now the rest of us are paying for it. Plenty of ways to get them to stop contacting you and nobody wants to hear you complain; plenty of laws protecting consumers, even the ones who don't deserve protection. I am an attorney and I know a great deal about those laws. You are the type of person who is dangerous to others - you know juuuuust enough to get people who listen to you into trouble, because you are giving incorrect information. If you are having trouble with creditors, do some research online and look up the fair debt collection act. Do not listen to people on any forum (including me, actually) - go look it up and see for yourself.
I have had plenty of nasty telemarketers call me and I can recall a few good ones where I really got back at them. One guy called me to try to sell me some windows - I was living in an apartment paying rent - and he got really angry when I said I didn't own the place and started spouting off at me. I was in shock and speechless, he finally hung up on me. Luckily, he called from a number, not a "private" or "unknown," so I was able to call the number back. When the guy answers and I asked why he had been so rude, he was so shocked that I called back, he started swearing and screaming at me, and then turned on some kind of heavy metal on a radio I think? and held the phone up to it until I hung up. I was able to trace the call back to the company - I believe it was in Des Plaines, IL - and I started bitchfest of the year to their Customer Service, and then to their Human Resources, and then to someone who identified as the guy's manager. Who knows if they ever did anything to him - they claimed he was getting suspended - but I sure felt good. I say, if they're not supposed to hang up on you, just put the phone down and keep doing what you were doing before, if you have the minutes to spare. :) - Tom replies to ToraZalintoHEY DA! BEER, billboard don't call you on the phone while you're trying to eat dinner? That's the difference.
People who sell drugs are just trying to make a living too and we put them in jail. The type of job you do says a lot about what type of person you are. TM = Scumbag. - Castun replies to LisaAZ| 3 repliesJust as an FYI, telemarketers are exempt from this anonymous or 'blocked caller-id' blocking service. I myself found this out the hard way when I had finally got my own land-line when I turned 18. Signed up for an unlisted number and also paid extra for the service that automatically blocks anonymous or blocked calls. Right away, I still started to get telemarketers calling me, even ones that caller-id listed as...'Anonymous Caller." When I called the telephone company to complain, the lady I talked to told me plain as day that telemarketers are exempt from this. This was before the Do Not Call list also I believe.
I soon got a cell phone, cancelled my land-line, and never looked back since. - NNV replies to Cheryl| 2 repliesProstitutes and drug dealers are less morally repugnant.
Even muggers and rapists have more courage.
I have no sympathy whatsoever for these vermin. - Don' ScammeExcellent.
If one cold calls someones number who they don't know, never had a business relationship with and try to pick their pockets...One is going to receive the cards dealt. Excellent recording, superb turnabout! ROFL.
Don - your nameBravo Matt.
Why do so many sheeple buy stuff they can't afford, with money they don't have, just to impress people they don't like (or themselves or whatever). Dave Ramsey makes a killing of telling folks common sense things they should already know (he says their grandmother knew, and that's true). What happened? Oh, the sixties, drugs, sex, rock-n-roll, and NO RESPONSIBILITY. When Moochelle Obama said she was proud of her country for the first time (since her husband became a "leader"), I became ashamed of my country, in a way. We are 15 TRILLION in debt! Grandma said if yo ain't got the money, you can't buy what you want. I know of NO convictions with the DNC law so the dude who is waiting for the free grand, get a job or two and you won't be home to answer Matt's call, and let your cellphone go to voicemail. Tell your drug buddy source to let you know he's got some IN CODE and call him back. Geez. If you don't need what Matt has to offer, just say no thanks and hang up, he's got plenty more to call, believe me (and him). Now scammers from Nigeria and India are a whole 'nother story but your precious DNC law does not apply to them and they make more than alot of Matts because of folks' gullibility. At least Matt has a product the solves a problem, that's business. You need clean clothes, you buy detergent (the guys on TV and radio give you the details so you know what kind to buy). That's Matt's job too, but much more personal and tailored to your situation. If you don't need his stuff, fine. Not everyone takes a bath or washes their clothes either. Witness OWS. Haha.
Why am I wasting my time here? I'm sure Matt has thought the same thing. You get Moochelle and her pooch to control what we eat and who calls you, okay? You do that and TM calls will be the LEAST of your worries. Until then, business will continue to be done in America. No one is holding a gun to your head to answer the phone OR purchase anything. You let .gov get too much control, you will see that reversed, and you won't want what they will FORCE you to have. Just some thoughts. I gotta go, I work for a living like Matt. Happy Thanksgiving. Hope it's not the last one. - Alicia replies to CastunNo, I think telemarketeers have to follow the DO NOT CALL list except for certain ones like political, surveys, and ones that you said could call even though you might of changed your mind since saying they could. All you have to do is inform the caller that your number is on the DNC list and that by calling you they are breaking the law and to please not call again. IF they call again then go ahead and get pissy with them because they had fair warning not to call.
Lately I've had callers from Jamaica trying the old international lottery and/or publishers clearing house scams on me. I've told them to P*** OFF and that I've reported them. Don't be afraid to report these people whether they're scammers or whether they're legit telemarketeers. You've every right not to be harassed by them constantly. - Patricia KelleyWhat Tom Mabe has done is make the call center profession one where he has made millions off of entry level workers that deserve a chance and do not want to have to be on welfare and using tax dollars that you have to pay to be on it if they do not work and do not keep a job. He has got so many call center workers fired and recorded them on his CDs without their knowledge and made millions and millions off of unsuspecting call center workers. Hope Tom Mabe likes paying higher tax dollars when his griping eliminated through NAAFTA and the National no Call list eliminated tons of call centers leaving tons of people out of work. When people are out of work they cant go anywhere or buy anything thus businesses in the areas and towns that they live in go out of business. I feel this video is not funny and am not going to listen to any more of his stuff making him richer and seeing how he has belittled people only trying to make a living. Disabled people like me who have to use a walker and cannot get ?SS and have been fighting it since 1999 also work entry level jobs and have to because they do not want to be able to work. I refuse to hear this man make fun of the call center worker. He probably goes into places of business and starts trouble when he sees a entry level worker working and starts cussing them out when nothing is wrong. This is the kind of person I bet Tom Mabe is. How many more businesses and call centers and entry level jobs does he want to try and eliminate to get more and more businesses to go out of business. Isn't the economy bad enough or does Tom Mabe want it to get worse and get rid of the few call centers that are left to make it even more worse so more and more businesses can go out of business. Do not make this man any richer or make him where he will belittle you just because you want to work and want your dignity.
- Fab replies to JeffI agree, Shame on the guy faking a suicide. Nothing funny about that.
- qwyzl replies to NNV| 1 replythat's a terrible thing to say. do you under stand what prostitutes go through? do you under stand most women would not do this by choice? and no one is forced to go to drug dealers - people buy drugs by their own free choice, and while some get addicted to drugs, there are thousands more who who use drugs and then leave them behind with no ill effect. but muggers and rapists? do you under stand the trauma that rapists cause? and if a mugger gets violent with his victim, that would be cause for trauma too. telemarketers are annoying; they are one of the many niggling irritants of society - but to compare them with truly horrid people as the latter criminals you mentioned is abhorrent. i under stand what you're saying, but you should have found another way of putting your thoughts.
