- HeyOUT OF THE USA. From Asia. They are here to spam you. Easy to pay for any "877" number in DC is the main switch and it bounces around to any carrier that is selling your cellphone numbers. Cricket is the worest. Check your carrier's terms and conditions, don't call customer service, they'll lie to you. I know I've done it when working for Verizon....

- BigA replies to dan huntVerbal requests to a debt collector do not work. You need to send them a letter telling them to cease and desist calling you. This should be done by certified, return receipt mail. Keep in mind that if they have talked to you, they are required by law to do the following:
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
