I just got the same call. His name is called Sean smith and said had a arrested warrant and my property is being monitored as well. He left this phone number and I called back with a different name called Mike Robinson . I think FBI should get involve to breakdown this scam activities. So no one will be bothered again.

We'd all like to see them caught, but it's not really possible since they are in India and the victims are usually in the US or Canada, but they try those scams or things like them against all English-speaking countries.

    Call blocker might be useful.

Received a phone message called from 202-241-4886, claimed to be "John Smith" from IRS Criminal Investigation Division and an arrest warrent has been put on me and personal property is being monitored.  Gave this 202-241-4529 as the call back number...  It's a scam!  Called IRS Customer service and got confirmation that it is a scam!  Reported this scam to Treasury Investigator General for Tax Administration.

Is a scam.  They should go to hell, to jail, to - - - -.  Begin to wonder how much they can make per day by scam.  Do they report the scam income to IRS?  May be not !!!

This person called me and left a message stating that there is a warrant for my arrest for tax fraud and even left a arrest warrant number. When you call back the number the voicemail states that it is the IRS criminal investigation unit and asks you to leave your name and number. Will report to IRS

I can't appreciate enough for your guys' input here.  That message did scare my family.  It's a relief to read your messages and know it's a scam.

My dad who doesn't speak fluent english received the same voicemail. He was sick so he missed the call and didn't notice the voicemail until today.

I called today and it kept stating the party is not available and mailbox is full. I highly doubt the IRS would tell you to call back a direct line where the mailbox could be full - esp if the person is under "arrest warrant". Glad I found this page to confirm it's a scam!

I have talked to a police about it.  The problem is that it is not easy to track them down since most (all) phones have been called are using voice over IP (as popular internet phone used by consumers today).  This scammer has tools that can attract the number and search information.  The caller number is also an IP phone, it can be created without a real caller ID, so police cannot track it down.  Most likely the first call is from inside USA (Washington DC).  When a called party is afraid to call back, then there will be another call to ask you for money or try to obtain more information about you, your property such as house, car, etc...and this number is usually from another country with a long number.

PLEASE DO NOT GIVE IN TO THESE SCAMMERS.

I hate to think who has been scammed out of money by there scumbags.

We first received calls with the person with a very heavy Indian accent. I called back to give a piece of my mind, and the used the most filthiest and vulgar language.

Tactics have now changed to an idiot with no accent, but who stumbles over his words. Telling me they have an arrest warrant in my name, and our property is being monitored.

Called back on the same area code 202 number, asking to leave a message.

I hope these people are caught and have a miserable day in hell.

A person said his name is John Smith left a message saying that he is an IRS Investigation Chief. He said my property is being monitored and I owed money to IRS. He asked me to call back on 202-241-4529. My wife went home and heard the message, immediately called me at work. When I called back that number. Another person named Mike Robinson, also claimed as a Chief Investigation (his name is American but has a heavy accent like African English or Indian). After a long conversation about money he said that I owe to IRS. He said there is an arrest warrant and I will be arrested within 25 minutes. I told him that he does not need to come to arrest me. I can come to IRS office to turn myself in but he kept saying that I don't need to do anything. Just stay where I am, so they can come to arrest. I thought it was real; so I had skipped work and go home since I didn't want to be arrested at my work place. When I was at home. I called my city police department about this call and the arrest warranty. A city sent a police officer to my house. At the time, another call with a long number seemed to be from another country. A caller told me exactly that I own a GMC 2007 Acadia. he asked for a mileage on the car and asked for money to be sent if I don't want anything happen. At the time, a police officer at my house asked him to stop calling. Then he started getting upset. A police officer told me hang up and don't answer a call from this number. What a lucky for him. If someone had come to my house to arrest me, then he would be the one to be arrested, not me.

We had the same issue happen an hour ago.  Got a call from John Smith calling from 202-241-4529 and was told he would be calling police to come arrest us.  I knew it was a scam of some sort but can't figure out what benefit he is getting from this phone call.  I tried unsuccessfully to block this caller but apparently I do not have that feature on my phone.

No.  They are in India.   As such they are beyond the reach of all US laws.
