Now they are calling local businesses.  I am the receptionist at the front desk.  Getting calls like this makes me very nervous that they're targeting businesses.

Received a call from 202 241 8210.  Woman with heavy accent indicating that she was from IRS and that if we did not call back, legal proceedings would be started.  Have reported it to both of the following websites and suggest anyone getting these calls do the same.  IRS web for this is www.tigta.gov and you should mention IRS Telephone Scam.  Also, report to FTC Complaint Assistant website.  It is important that these departments are aware of this.

I've also got the same call a couple times.  the first part of the message is garbled or cut off ,  and she said she was officer Judy Smith threatening to take legal action if we didn't call back. She didn't give a name of who she looking for ,she didn't say who she was trying to reach, or what it was regards to...and also told us to take care. awesome the caller ID was different from the call back number..definitely sounds like a scam to me

Officer Smith said she is with IRS. Obvious accent. Threatening and rude call. In the background I hear someone speaking Urdu. Obviously not IRS, as urdu is not our official language. Must be some Islamic gang in Pakistan or India or millions of Muslims who have migrated into Europe or USA. Bad people. Ignore them.

Received this voice mail yesterday evening. Same type as the others listed below. Female with an accent claims to be an "officer" of some sort along with the legal action lingo. Obviously a scam.

If you get robocall debt collectors they are breaking federal consumer protection laws and you do have recourse.  Simply record the number of times they call you, better yet, keep a record of your phone bill or caller I'd, show that you tried to call them to stop, and you can collect up to $500 for each of their calls. Just keep a good paper trail and find a consumer credit lawyer online who is willing to work for you on a contingency. There are a lot of them out there and they can do the job very well in your favor. They worked for me, thus why I can't give specifics due to the specifics of my settlement, but let's just say that it worked out very $well. Don't be a victim of debt collector abuses, you can make them work in your favor!

Call from 202-241-8210 this morning.  Same call as others, from Jane Smith (Indian accent) to call back before legal action is taken.  Thank God for caller id.

This was in the national news last week. Yes the call is a scam.
1. Government agencies do not call and threatten people. All requests from government agencies are in writing.
2. Legal action real or alleged must also be in writing.
Do not respond and above all do not send any money. You do not know where the money will be going.

The same for me. I got this call today.

I rec'd "the call", exactly as everyone has already described, at 6:55 AM!!!  The gall of them on a Saturday (a sleep in day!)!!!  Yeah, same vm message that I'd better call back before they take legal action.....LOL.

A woman called name Officer Judy Smith with an Indian accent.  said to call her 202-506-8210, before they take any legal action.  The number I have on my phone at the time she called was 202-241-8210.  From the DC area.  Is this spam or not?

We received calls from area code, 415, 509 and 202 with this IRS scam. The voice mail was in American from 415 area code and Chinese accent on the 509 area code caller. I called one back, and the accent changed to Arab, Pakistani, Indian or Indonesian - hard to tell. This is clearly a well financed, organized gang operating from many numbers.

This may be a Muslim terrorist network raising funds. I hope our homeland security team gets on top of this. They should disconnect these numbers from the national network, just like phone companies will disconnect your number if you don't pay your bill. Meanwhile, my fellow Americans, do not fall for the IRS scam and fund the terrorists. Just ignore them.

This is a Pakistan or India based IRS scam. Do not fall for it. The IRS does not initiate any legal action via phone.

As general background information, here are a few things you can do:
1) Report it to TIGTA under http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml especially if you have become a victim (lost money, gave personal information etc.). You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/complaint (include “IRS Telephone Scam" in your complaint). This way you can also help the government establish specific fraud patterns.

2) Help kill their phone lines. The scammers use Voice over IP lines (e.g. magicJack (Ymax corporation)) to make it seem as if they are calling from the US. This is always against these companys' terms of service and can lead to immediate termination of their contract and blocking of their IP addresses for future attempts to register. Do a reverse look up of their telephone number (e.g. www.whitepages.com) to identify the Voice over IP provider and report it to the company and/or law enforcement (local police and/or state attorney general)

3) If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction and provide US law enforcement agencies with the political backing and the resources they need to work in India and Pakistan together with local authorities (it can happen, read: http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/ex-call-cen ... mmission-320427). I got a call 9/24/2014 from Julie at the IRS wanting me to call them back to avoid legal action.  This is the second time I have been called by the 'JULIE AT THE IRS SCAM."  I have talked to the IRS and they have assured me that this is a scam and I do not owe them any money.  The actual IRS employee assured me also that they would never cold call anyone and that they would make all notifications via mail not by phone.  I was asked by the REAL AGENT AT THE IRS to go to www.tigta.gov and click "IRS Impersonation Scam Reporting" and make a report of the scam, which I am about to go and do. It is the site of the U.S. Treasury Inspector General.

Yup, got a call just like the others listed here.  There's nothing to take legal action against me, so I am sure this is a scam.  The first part of the message is cut off, some clearly English speaking middle Eastern accented woman.  No way I gonna call.

Got a very heavy indian acent person form 212 241 8210 wasting her and my time and wanting to call back and leaving a threatening message.  do get a decent job and stop making useless calls.  Gave the recording and numbers to a credit consumer lawyer and he is going to trace these and the monies these prankesters  are collecting are used for illegal actions.

These scammers must be really stupid and on top of it can't hardly speak proper English and Officer "Judy Smith" must be real busy looking at some of these calls from previous dates. Hope they catch these individuals and put them away for good.
