- ParthGot a similar call minutes ago and the number read 911. Initially I thought it might be a prank call but the person on the other line started giving warrant number issued against me, his name and other details. That got me thinking. Plus he never asked for any money which made it sound more true. I assumed it was a case of identity theft and may be someone else might have committed something under my name and social but after reading these posts am sure it was a prank call and may be the caller will call again to ask for money now.
The mental torture I went through was horrible and after talking to a few colleagues I was assured IRS doesn't call through 911 and no police wouldn't call to arrest you.- Caller: IRS (number read 911 though)

- Samuel| 1 replyThanks very much to this site. Got this same call and it ruined my day. 202-241-7158 was the number that called me over and over again, as well as a follow up from 911. Thick accent on the line. Told me to walk to Safeway or Rite Aid, 2 miles away, while staying on the line. This, so I could pay the first 400 of the $3,100 I owed the IRS. I checked online at the library, after much worry. TOTALLY FAKE, COMPLETE SCAMMING P.O.S.

- RexIRS replies to SamuelThis is a Pakistan or India based IRS scam. Do not fall for it. The IRS does not initiate any legal action via phone.

As general background information, here are a few things you can do:
1) Report it to TIGTA under http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml especially if you have become a victim (lost money, gave personal information etc.). You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/complaint (include “IRS Telephone Scam" in your complaint). This way you can also help the government establish specific fraud patterns.
2) Help kill their phone lines. The scammers use Voice over IP lines (e.g. magicJack (Ymax corporation)) to make it seem as if they are calling from the US. This is always against these companys' terms of service and can lead to immediate termination of their contract and blocking of their IP addresses for future attempts to register. Do a reverse look up of their telephone number (e.g. www.whitepages.com) to identify the Voice over IP provider and report it to the company and/or law enforcement (local police and/or state attorney general)
3) If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction and provide US law enforcement agencies with the political backing and the resources they need to work in India and Pakistan together with local authorities (it can happen, read: http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/ex-call-cen ... mmission-320427). A US task force has already been set up in Jamaica to nab scammers there (see http://www.ice.gov/doclib/news/library/reports/cornerstone/cornerstone7-1.pdf). You can use the following template for your letter (more powerful!) or email:

- Michellegetting phone calls from 714-947-4843, left a message, saying that a legal case has been filed against me and that I will be arrested at my home address and to call if I want more information. This has happened twice in the last 3 months.
- DWI received these calls (voice messages in a lady voice) 5 times roughly. I ignored them. They all said I owe IRS money and they will press charges. One time I called back the 202 number is that number has been disconnected. From the news I realized these are prank calls. What are these idiots thinking?

- KarthikaHi, I got a call from this number couple of times and I could not attend the call, next minute I got a call from 911 number saying they are the cops and a complaint is logged against me for the IRS and its regarding the money laundry activity against me. They asked me to call back this number 202-241-8489 and ext.1052, a persona named Robin Motaro Badge No:1071 spoke to me saying my name is back listed etc etc, the moment we heard this we hung up the call and checked with local police station and they asked me to avoid this. I feel something has to be done to stop this bcos for people like me who are new to this country is really giving a heart attack.. I was so scared and tensed :( and kept crying until my sister called the local police to confirm it was a scam. If my sister was not around me I would ve ended up paying the same.. The call was so real that I could hear police sirens at the back ground

- Historymaker06]| 1 replyYesterday i experience this incident : I got an phone call with an UNKNOWN CALLER ID. An Officer from Pasadena police station. He ask me for my name. Then he said his name is Officer Brain Corner, he's a cop, and he told me that there's an arrest warrant in my name from IRS and a sheriff will come to arrest me. He wanted my current location and full address. I couldn't believe it , after a few minutes I hung up and froze . I tense up. Didn't know what do you. After calling my lawyer and friends, and i did a background check on myself, it turns out to be a FAKE warrant arrest call, that is happening all around the country. Luckily i hang up fast, i didn't hear his threat. It was a SCAM to extort money from me. No one is coming to arrest me. If you get these calls, Don't answer!! Don't give out your information. IRS will never call anyone even if we really owe money to them. They send the letter first and Police won't call to arrest you. This Phone Call was so real, so scary. Be aware and share.
These people should be booked and brought to justice.

IRS does not file lawsuits. Court action, if any is handled by the DOJ and all parties are entitled to legal assistance if it is a criminal matter. But--tax disputes are for the most part civil matters. 90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively. IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes. IRS has no powers of arrest. If LE is necessary, US Marshals do the job. IRS does not cold call anyone and ask for money. IRS does not accept Green card money paks for payment in any case. No one is prosecuted for ordinary tax disputes. IRS has absolutely no authority over anyone's professional license. Professional licensing is handled by state governments. Yes, levies on property to satisfy an existing tax obligation do occur, but only after a very long period of negotiation. And yes, liens are placed on individuals but usually after a lot of negotiation and a failure to reach a settlement. All determinations of tax liability are subject to appeals. All contacts by the IRS are initiated by US mail. - GirishToday I did receive a call from Victoria calling from federal department Washington DC.
she told that there has been a arrest warrant issued against me when I told that I came 1 month back to US
