Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

    Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
    (202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.

That category is one of their main targets.  For some reason women are susceptible to these kinds of scam.  The Indian/Pakistani scammer/extortionists  are always looking for people who might be in financial difficulty.  They pick on women, single mothers, the elderly and members of the immigrant community.  Ignore and block the calls.

I recieved a email stating that I had owed 13,500 and 798 in debt. They were reporting me, taking me to court. Please listen as I hope each of you will do this as the more people who do we can stop the criminal and theFBI can catch him. I contacted the FBI on a similar scam. The agent asked me to go to IC3.gov. This is the FBI's site to report fraud, scams by phone, letter, etc. They ask you to write every detail that you can including numbers, emails etc, what they had said. Once you do so,click submit and it will go to the proper place for an agent to check into. You may get a call as I was informed and told me not to be alarmed. I hope this helps. I encourage you to do this so this guy can not violate others

Then don't worry. An email is not legitimate means of proof debt exists, neither is a fax, or phone call. Ask for proof in the mail if you decide to take the call. Ignore unknown numbers completely and Fabian Cole has to try ripping off somebody else.
