This is a Pakistan or India based IRS scam. Do not fall for this.

The IRS does not initiate any legal action via phone. The scammers use voice over IP lines (e.g. magicjack (Ymax corporation)) to make it seem as if they are calling from the US. This is always against these companys' terms of use and can lead to termination of their contract. However only law enforcement can initiate the contact if you yourself are not a customer. Therefore, report it also to your local law enforcement agency. Ultimately this is a case for the FBI legal attache in Islamabad or New Delhi. If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction (and the NSA can finally be a force for good).

Dear Senator/Representative XXX

As your constituent, I am writing to urge you to demand decisive action from the FBI, the IRS and other federal agencies against organized crime directed against American citizens from abroad.

As widely reported by local and national media all across the United States and warned about by the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (see http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/press/press_tigta-2014-03.htm) a tidal wave of fraud using Internet phones has hit the United States. Millions of dollars already have been stolen by criminals impersonating federal officers while hiding in countries like India and Pakistan, where most of the calls originate. There seems to be no end of it in sight.

I have personally been targeted by these scammers but it is the most vulnerable among us that I am concerned about primarily. The scheme is specifically singling out those that can least defend themselves against these crimes, in particular the elderly. I am also worried that given the origin of these gangsters, the money stolen from US citizens may be used for financing of terrorism or other activities directed against the national interests of the United States. But in spite of this clear and present danger to our country and its citizens I have seen no action worth mentioning by the FBI, the IRS or other federal agencies so far.

As a member of Congress overseeing the law enforcement agencies tasked with fighting fraud and ensuring national security, I implore you to make sure that they act on these threats and are given all the necessary resources to target these criminals in cooperation with foreign law enforcement.

I received a message saying I owed money and needed to pay. I called back this number and got nothing so I googled it and this web site came up.

They called and said I'd be arrested or go to prison if I didn't pay my debt to the IRS.

You will not be arrested.  Please read the long comment by REX  above yours about this SCAM.  Do not communicate with them.

This person email me from 202-239-0637 said this is my final notes if I don't respond I'll be arrested.

Total scam.  Ignore it.  Block their calls.

Just got a call from this number..no VM left

I received the call at 7:05 A. M.

I received a call from 202-506-9750 claiming to be the IRS, which went to our answering machine.

That the call was from "Jane Smith"  alone made me dubious, but there are people with that name - I know a Ben Smith, and he is often thought to be using a pseudonym!

I called back (Thinking that it was a scam, but on the off chance it wasn't . . .), and got a voicemail-type response from MagicJack.

Then I went to the internet, and the IRS webpages, and here, and . . .

This number called my cell.  It first called my home number 2 weeks ago. This needs to be put on a news show so that they will stop this.

I received this unwanted scam call today from 202-506-9750.

Because I don't answer calls from numbers I don't recognize intuition  told me to look the number up and I found this page. Thank you .

I RECEIVED 2 CALLS FROM 2025069750 SAYING IT WAS THE IRS. I FINALLY CALLED IT BACK AND ASK FOR "JANE SMITH" . THE PERSON WHO ANSWERED THE PHONE ASK FOR THE NUMBER I WAS CALLING FROM. I SAID WHAT IS THIS REGARDING? SHE SAID SOMETHING ELSE. I SAID "I CAN NOT UNDERSTAND YOU" SHE SAID " [***]" AND HUNG UP ON ME.

These calls are not coming from the IRS or anywhere else in the US government.

I received the call 5 minutes ago. Thanks for the advice. I have decided not to call back as it is a scam number.

Seen this number a couple times over the last couple months...they left a message so, I returned it today.  Foreign voice asking to verify information., and a law suit had been filed!!  very rude and obvious scam!!

202-506-9750 her name Julie smith left a message saying she was with IRS and before legal action and a warrent for my arrest was issues to  call her back. Well I called her back and advised her that I knew this was a scam and she was from Pakistan  so I am having my attorney and a real IRS representative also return call. That was 4 hours ago have not received another call.

I received a call today from 202-506-9750. The woman said she was "June or Jane Smith" from the IRS.
She said; "do not ignore this call, this is the last call before we start legal litigation against you".
Then at the end she said, "Take Care"
Good Lord, if this isn't a scam I don't know what is.

I received call from someone named Michael Johnson who says he is from the irs. He asked me for $5000. Is this for real?

I just received a call supposedly from the IRS and dialed the number back. I was called every obscenity under the sun when I questioned if this was really the IRS. Who are these people?
