Beware of recorded call from Phone # 274-309-5430 stating that you are being sued by the I.R.S. and to call 202-629-9097 immediately for more info and the case number. This such call is good reason to demand from our elected officials to change the phone caller ID laws so that you have caller ID 100% of the time on a phone YOU pay for. Cal and write them and demand it.

Confirmed fraud attempt (IRS script). This is a Pakistan or India based IRS scam. Do not fall for it. The IRS does not initiate any legal action via phone.
    Read http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/press/press_tigta-2014-03.htm

As general background information, here are a few things you can do:
    1) Report it to TIGTA under http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml especially if you have become a victim (lost money, gave personal information etc.). You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/complaint (include “IRS Telephone Scam" in your complaint). This way you can also help the government establish specific fraud patterns.

    2) Help kill their phone lines but not by calling them back directly (the number may be spoofed and repeat calls by you may - under exceptional circumstances- amount to harassment). The scammers use Voice over IP lines (e.g. magicJack (Ymax corporation)) to make it seem as if they are calling from the US. This is always against these companys' terms of service and can lead to immediate termination of their contract and blocking of their IP addresses for future attempts to register. Do a reverse look up of their telephone number (e.g. www.whitepages.com) to identify the Voice over IP provider and report it to the company and/or law enforcement (local police and/or state attorney general)

    3) If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction and provide US law enforcement agencies with the political backing and the resources they need to work in India and Pakistan together with local authorities (it can happen, read: http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/ex-call-cen ... mmission-320427). A US task force has already been set up in Jamaica to nab scammers there (see http://www.ice.gov/doclib/news/library/reports/cornerstone/cornerstone7-1.pdf). Used a Halo Wireless phone number, 254-302-5030, to robocall with their "Internal Revenue Services" scam but referenced this 202 number as the one to call back.

There is such a law.  It's the Truth in Caller ID Act of 2009.  Remember, though, that we're dealing with criminals who are already breaking the law, so don't expect them to bother with this one.

Got a call on 10/6 at 5:34 AM PDST claiming to be the IRS and again on 10/7 at 5:39 AM PDST with the same message.  Dis a reverse on the 202-629-9097 number totally bogus.  Why can't the no call list block these types of calls?

Mike in MD replies to Harry
The Do Not Call list is not a blocking service.  It is a list of numbers that registered telemarketers selling goods or services or qualifying you as a sales prospect for a third party purchase to screen numbers against before calling.  Scammers are not going to register and pay for the list and unless the scam involves selling you something, it is not covered anyway.

Left a message at 8:45 pm on my spouses cell phone. I Called the next day from my cell phone and an Indian man answered. I asked for his name, and he said I too quickly so that I didn't understand it. I asked again, and he said Officer Jason Miller. He then asked me for what number received the call. That set off alarms in my mind. I asked if he had a badge number or identifying number from the IRS. He hung up on me. It was a SCAM.
