When I answered, I was immediately asked to confirm our company's listing information in a directory.  I then asked the caller what company he was calling from, and he said "American Yellow Pages."  I told him that we were not listed with them, and that we do not accept solicitation calls or sales calls and to take us off their list.  He rudely replied, "Miss, this is not a solicitation call...that has already been done.  Just tell me if the information is correct."  He then proceeded to ask me the CEO's name; at this point I hung up.  The same number came through later in the day, but they didn't leave a message.

I just received another call from this company indicating that they were from the American Yellow Pages.  The caller had a strong Indian accent and was hard to understand.  He said we were existing customers and wanted to verify our information so it could be updated in their next listing.  When I asked if there was a cost, he said it was $459!!  I asked to speak to a supervisor and he said it was him.  I then asked for a toll free number to call him back and he said there wasn't one.  When I tried to call the number from my caller ID (202-715-0902), a message came on indicating that the mailbox was full and not able to accept any incoming messages.

They call every day, but always before I am at the number in question.

Can someone who gets a live person on the phone ask for a website?  Then we can find out who is making the calls.

The caller had an Indian accent and wanted my wife to confirm her business address, location and e-mail for him. He asked if she wanted to renew. Fortunately the line went dead before any additional information was provided. Callback to the caller id number went to a full voice mail box.

They called again about five minutes later. "Peter" advised he was from "The American Yellow Pages" and his website is  www.goamericanyellow.com. Peter could not provide his employee number nor could he provide a callback number. He said the phone number he was calling from should come up on my caller ID and I am welcomed to call him anytime. However, he was unable or did not desire to provide a direct phone number to call him. After nine requests for his call back number and business license numbers, Peter Disconnected.

The page info and page source of the internet page did not provide me any information about the identity of the person or its creating company. To the person that was billed: please post the billing address of this yellow page listing service. The checks have to get to somebody in some manner.

info only: do not use your own ip address when going to this page. Mask it or use an untraceable ip address.

Thanks Manny.  That website naturally doesn't have a contact phone #, but I did a bit more searching, and the company is GOAM Media.

Their number is 866-697-0539.  Don't know whether the calls will actually stop, but I did get a live (and helpful-sounding) person on the phone who said he'd take the number off their calling list.

(I called from the number they'd been trying to reach, so it's not as if they didn't already have the #.)

Note to everyone:  BE POLITE!  Yes, they are a bunch of useless scam artists, but the longer we're polite to them, the longer they'll keep that phone number, and that way more people can get their numbers removed.

these people who are calling are not americans, they sound more like
asian or indian.  they continue to call even when told not to. they
insist on speaking to the manager and 2 of them than talk with a very
foreign accent.  when their phone is dialed, there is a recording.

Apparently this company GOAM Media, also has a customer service number of 866-697-5039.  They badger you with phone calls and trick you into accepting their service.  I asked to hear a tape of the conversation in which we supposedly agreed to use the service and they played it, but it certainly sounded like an edited tape.  The answers just didn't follow neatly with the questions.  At any rate, I think we're stuck paying this bill because I have no idea how to fight it and I don't want to get to sent to collections, but I'd warn anyone to gets a call from GOAM Media or AMerican Yellow Pages to "just say no".

I have been getting several calls (to a business phone) a week for the past month from a man with an east Indian accent asking me to update our listing with "The American Yellow Pages". Each time I tell him we have no listing and we don't want one. I ask him everytime to stop calling and take us off their list. Yet the calls continue. The caller ID display is "Unknown Caller".

They called our office a few times and I just felt it wasn't on the up and up so asked them to take me off their list... which they didn't and called again with the same VERY PUSHY pitch that we're already listed, we're not charging you anything right now, we'll just send you an invoice for a the discounted 2 years for your listing, etc.  "Mac" would not give me a phone number nor a website, that alone told me something.  They just need you to say you authorize them sending an invoice and since it's a recorded line, that's where they get you.  DO NOT AUTHORIZE ANYTHING!  If you indeed do have a listing through your local Yellow Pages most likely you're paying it along with your phone bill.  Tell them you want to CANCEL your listing and do not ever want to be listed again with them.  Since it's not a real company and it has nothing to do with the actual Yellow Pages you are losing nothing.  If you authorize the listing, you're out $450.

I read somewhere online that they are indeed scammers and that you do not have to pay if you are tricked.  All you have to do apparantly is report them to the better business bureau.

DO NOT PAY THEIR BILL if you get scammed. Contact the attorney generals office and report this company as a scam. One of our store employees verified the information last year and then they started billing us. Then the collection calls started so we contacted the attorney general and this company stopped trying to collect the fake bill. Everything was great for about a year until this week they called again to verify the information. I told him that this is a scam and put our number on the do not call list. He got mad and started yelling at me and told me "you don't know how I can screw you over." I told him yes I do know and I do know how to defend our company. So don't pay the bill and contact the attorney general!

I was called three times in one week.  I was asked by man whose name was Jim (who also had an Indian accent) for authorization to renew my listing for $450. I had a hard time understanding Jim so another man got on the phone. I told him we never had a contract with his company for any type of listing and the only company we deal with for yellow pages is Idearc. This guy then said yellow pages was reorganizing. My wife then got online and viewed others who posted complaints about this scammer.  We then reported American Yellow Pages (GoAmericanYellow.com) to our local attorney general/consumer affairs office,
    http://njconsumeraffairs.gov/ocp/ocpform.htm.

They are a legitimate company, with headquarters in india, and collections department in new york. Once they invoice you, you have to pay, otherwise they will sue you. The Yellow Pages logo and name are not copyrighted, and so they are legit. Hope this helps!

The FTC states that a telemarketer cannot lie to you, and they MUST tell you if the service is non reversable before you are billed.  They both lied... by saying we had service with them, and second they never told us before that it was irreversable.  I am not too worried.
