Must be spam.

Called about student loan forgiveness, something to do with the William T Grant Foundation. I'm Canadian and definitely never had an American student loan so this is a scam.

Oh god. I just fell for this because I indeed did have a recent student loan forgiveness application that may not have been complete, and that's what he was calling me about. Seemed weird that the "director" would reach out. Foolishly left a message with my name and number. Ugh.

Same experience as many of you. The call came from a 714 area code (which is close to my hometown, so I was a little concerned). Called about an incomplete Student Loan Forgiveness application, which I have never applied for. But, the voicemail never said who they were trying to reach, so that was a pretty big red flag.

I've gotten 2 messages from Joe Campbell claiming to be the director of a student loan forgiveness program. He says the same thing in both messages- that I partially filled out something for student loan forgiveness, all I have to do is Google the William D Ford act, Donald Trump and Betsy DeVos are taking away student loan forgiveness,.... so I googled the William D Ford act but I also googled Joe Campbell and I'm so glad I found this page. I will not be calling him back.

This thread is not about "Joe Campbell".  This thread is about phone calls from 2028104238.  Is that the number they called you on?

Left me a message that was almost personal, except never stated my name in the message. Scam!

I paid off my student loans five years ago, with interest, directly with the Fed Government.  I know I owe nothing, not even back interest.  This guy is a recording saying he will reject my application for student loan debt forgiveness if I don't call back.  LOL!   I haven't applied for anything!   SCAM.  Do not call back or fall for this.  Every message is EXACTLY the same, so it is a recording.  Block and report to FCC!

Here is the exact transcription copy and pasted from my voicemail transcription service:
“Hi this is Joe Campbell on the director of the student loan forgiveness program calling about loans it looks like to try to get into the loan forgiveness program and I just checking in _⁠_⁠_ making a lot of _⁠_⁠_⁠_ _⁠_ this would be definitely _⁠_⁠_⁠_⁠_⁠_⁠_ with my _⁠_⁠_⁠_⁠_ _⁠_ call if you have not yet got your loans _⁠_⁠_⁠_⁠_⁠_⁠_⁠_⁠_ with your current _⁠_⁠_⁠_⁠_⁠_ so I highly suggest give me a call um I can show you how this all works it's very confusing the _⁠_⁠_⁠_⁠_⁠_ _⁠_⁠_⁠_⁠_⁠_ _⁠_ very tricky you know now _⁠_⁠_⁠_ _⁠_⁠_ be _⁠_ Great Lakes eight _⁠_ so I can explain that for you just talk to ask you a couple more questions you can reach me back on my eyeliner it's just too 08104238 again 810438 _⁠_ everything worked out we can get your loan _⁠_ paid off _⁠_ your service sir within the next 60 to 90 _⁠_⁠_⁠_⁠_⁠_⁠_ can help you out with your credit get you back on track and from there you can _⁠_⁠_⁠_ a fraction back over a long period time and again I'll be able to explain that so I love to speak with you hope you're having a great day bye-bye…”

Same situation. Joe Campbell offering to relieve my student loan debt. I am retired. Called back out of curiosity,  only to get a recording. Thank you everyone, for making others aware of scams like these.

Got the same type of call as described by everyone else. I do have student loan but never filed for loan forgiveness. Its a good thing that I came on the site to look up the phone number. I was about to call this person back and could potentially fall for the trap

Glad I came here to read this. Never called joe back. Seemed way to suspicious. Said my loan company’s were being sued and I needed to consolidate with him before trump ruins things. Guy is a joke

Why is Washington calling me in Canada. Never been to United States. Joe Campbell can go [***] himself.  Multiple recorded messages on my Canadian mobile

Joe Campbell. Student loans forgiveness scam. The will ask for Ssn to help rip you off. Shoot him in the head I'm tired of scammers

My elderly mother was getting the calls from this person, Joe Campbell, also.  I'm the one who checks the voice messages on her cell phone since she doesn't know how to get those.  It was this same person saying the same things that all of these other people have been saying on here about student loan forgiveness.  She had never been to college.  I have been but all of my student loans have been paid up for years.  I don't know how they got her number but  It made me upset that they are bothering an 80 year old widow.

The scammer didn't get your mother's number.  They were calling every number in your mother's area code and exchange, hoping to find someone who would fall for the scam.  I'm glad you were able to protect her from it.
