My understanding is that the "Do Not Call" list is supposed to prevent cold calls from telemarketers, etc., but there are tons of workarounds and loop-holes that companies use to avoid it. For example, if you enter your phone number on a retail website, even if it says "Your personal information will not be shared/sold/etc.", that does not include that company's affiliates or subsidiaries, which may have their own rules about sharing information with THEIR affiliates, etc., and somewhere down the line your phone number may be "legitimately" acquired by a telemarketing system.

That said, when you call back most of these numbers, you get a "number not in service" message, so the fact that this one has an "opt out as per FCC regulations" message is quite a surprise. I've given it a try, (even though it asked to confirm my own phone number, which I felt some reservations about given the circumstances), so we'll see if it works.

These are "robo calls".  They are dialed by a computer, that could care less about the "Do Not Call List".  The number you see on your screen is "spoofed".... it's not where the call is really coming from.  They are dialed through intricate switching networks that are not traceable.  And, the callers are not selling anything.  They pretend to be, in the hope that you will give them your credit card number, so they can strip your account to it's maximum limit in a matter of minutes.  Calling to "opt out" is a joke, and not real. It just confirms they have reached a person who will respond.  They'll be back with another phoney scam, from another phoney phone numer in a few days.

I too called and opted out 3 days ago and am still getting calls...already 2 times today (8-22-12).

@Ruthless, I did remove my number last week, the recorded mesaage said "sorry we will not call you again".
Yea right, still calling everyday, 2x a day or more. At least if you are going to continually call a person, SAY WHAT THE HELL YOU WANT!!!!!!!!!!!!! what a bunch of losers, get a f************ life. So annoying!

I get "non-stop" calls from this number.  Some several times a day.  How annoying!  Maybe someone can let them know about the "do not call" list?  If I NEVER answer the phone when your number appears, don't you think you should get the message that I don't want to be bothered.  Honestly?????

It was an automated account saying they were from PECO, PA's electric company.  It kept prompting to hit a button so that I could talk to a representative.

I have gotten 6-7 missed calls during the last two days.  Today I answered and an automated message said that they were from PECO, Southeastern PA's electric and gas company.  It gave me an option to "opt-out" which I did and, of course, 15 minutes later I received another call from them.  How annoying.

They've called me 2 - 4 times a day for the past week. I never answer, but they keep trying. Can somebody take their phone privileges away?

Every day 6 -7 calls now happening on my cell phone, this has to be stopped.  I am also on the DNC list  These jerks need to get a real job!

I got 4 calls from this number today....i finally blocked the number.  If you can do it on your phone it will stop the calls.
