Called spoke with a woman who asked for my dad by name. Told her he was unavailable and that I was his daughter. She asked if I could take a message and if I could see her number on my caller ID. I said yes, I can see a number and then asked for her name again so I could write it down. Then we were disconnected. I truly hope it is not part of a phone scam that records you saying yes. Please make these type of calls go away!

More to the point, it can't because debt collection practices are not in the FCC jurisdiction. That would be the CFPB (until Dodd-Frank is destroyed) and the FTC.

"They call anyway" because WAM wasn't told to stop and no-call registries do not apply.

Why that blew up in the mass media when there are so many real and documented threats delivered by telephone, I can only guess is due to our caliber of discourse being crippled by the likes of CNN, Facebook, and Twitter.

Next, when debt collectors go skip tracing for your father or anyone else not your spouse, they can ask how to locate or contact the alleged debtor and say little else. It's not your job to play unpaid messenger on their behalf, and there is case law frowning on that pressure.

West Asset has a mailing address. Make friends with USPS Certified forms. Dad should be getting or already have a dunning letter if WAM really thinks he owes, presumably junk debt. Be sure he doesn't miss his window for sending a written dispute, which triggers several legal protections, including a kind of gag order which is lifted only when debt validation is made.

This number keeps calling my cell phone and never leaves a message. It's from West Asset Management, a collections company. And they need to STOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They need to stop?  Well all you have to do is read the posts in this thread that tell you how to do that.  Or you can put up with the calls.  Your choice.
