- JaneThis caller is a FRAUD!!! I got a call from them pretending to be citibank. BS!!
- Caller: Citibank
- NickClaims to be from Citi Bank. Claimed that a fraudulent app was sent in and approved, and that there is now an outstanding balance on a new Citi card. But most of the info they confirmed with me is a little bit off. First off, no card issuer would issue a card out let alone allow charges to be made on a card if the application containing incorrect info. At the end of the call, the rep asked me to call 800-825-0393, and give them my SSN to check the status of the investigation. I was contacted by a single rep on two separate occasions claiming to be two different people; first Amanda, then Lisa. Both using the same script. I wonder whether this is a SSN phishing scam.

- josh| 1 replyI received a call from this number claiming to be in regards to a Home Depot Corporate Account and was given a reference number in the voicemail. I called back and was told I was mistakenly called, the digits in the number were mixed up and it was for a construction company in another city. They apologized for the the error and did not request any additional information and assured me there was no account in my name. Needless to say I use credit monitoring and will be checking it vigilantly.

- T| 2 repliesGot a call from someone claiming to be from Best Buy confirming that there's been an account opened in my name. They proceeded to ask for my social security number to cancel the account and I declined. I didn't feel comfortable giving my social to someone calling me out of the blue. She then persisted and asked for my birthdate. In middle of everything, I hadn't realized that it was suspicious until afterwards. I did give her my birthdate but nothing else. Beware!!! NEVER give your information out if you're receiving a call. Thank them and find your own way to contact the vendor to inquire on any open accounts!
- Tiffany| 3 repliesFirst, she told me that someone was trying to apply for a Best Buy credit card in my name. She said they had the last four of my social and asked for my address so they could send me the form. I said I wanted them to cancel it and they suggested that I transfer to the Citi Fraud protection program. When I said no, she gave me a phone number and a reference number to call back at my convenience.
- Caller: "Best Buy"
- Tiffany replies to Tiffany| 2 repliesFYI, this was legit. I called BestBuy and they said that someone did try to open an account in my name. I checked my credit history and it has been compromised.
- tommytwotone replies to Tiffany| 1 replysounds very fishy, stores don't call you to tell you that, cause they don't know its NOT you, I discovered someone tried to open a chase CC in my name by looking at my Credit report...they were rejected LOL, any how I called them up and asked them, they said there was an application filled out they even gave me the address the guy used to get the card..it was the next city over, filled a thing out for my credit reports and they removed it, and I put a 6 months freeze on my credit report
- tommytwotone replies to tommytwotoneOH and PS, I made a police report in my city, low and behold two weeks later git a phone call from the police in the next city over, saying they caught a guy with all my info and he had a whole spreadsheet on me (where he tried to get credit) and police have been trying to catch this guy for a long time, they told me he is a pro....have not heard anything else, this was two years ago.. that SOB
- MCupidetteSaw this number on my caller ID more than an hour after they called. Caller ID showed "CITI" 1-210-677-1346. CITIBANK does not usually call me. I decided to give CITI a call BUT NOT through this 1-210-677-1346. I used the 800 number on the back of my CITI credit card. When I spoke to Customer Service they said that they themselves could not access my account because the CITI FRAUD DEPT. put a "hold" on any activity on my account. Customer Service then transferred me to the Fraud Dept. who acknowledged that they were trying to reach me. They said they noticed unusual activities on my account. The agent then proceeded to read to me ELEVEN charges starting from three days ago that they thought were suspicious. They were correct. I never made those charges. So I would say that this number 1-210-677-1346 is a legitimate number. If you still feel wary about it, call the 800 number on the back of your own credit card and ask for CITI's Fraud Department. I'm glad I called them back.
