Not only do I confirm and back up what Slim said, I think I would like to give you a little advice:

Get another lawyer, preferably one that actually paid attention in law school and passed the BAR exam with much more than the minimum passing grade.

I've got 2 semesters of business law at Community College and even I know more than your lawyer with his 6 or 7 years of law school.

Wow! I received that call this afternoon around 1 pm. I have received voicemails like this before, and I knew it was a scam. Look at how many responses there are from today! This is proof this is a b.s call trying to scare you with the law so that you give up your hard, earned, money -_-

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

    Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
    (202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.

The foreign people have figured out that people are on to them so they are recording an American to leave messages I guess.  This is clearly a SCAM.  This is one of many scams that are going on right now.  I can't tell you how many phone calls I have received from these jerks trying to rip me off.  Do not give out any information or pay any of these people.  I'm wondering why these people get our information.

Called them multiple times today. I reported them to a few federal departments. I'd advise anyone to get identity theft insurance before they sell your info or open accounts. First a guy picked up and when I started telling them that everyone is on to their "scam" he started yelling and calling me a little [***] and hung up the phone. Pretty hysterical, then another girl picked up and was trying to act professional when another ghetto person got on the phone and told me to find better time with my broke [***] , also hysterical. Meanwhile they are buying info and falsely calling people to pay 33.3% restitution on debt or they'll be thrown in jail, also hysterical. Anyone one with common sense. Knows that you don't go to jail for debt per say and any real debt collector or processor would've already notified you by either themselves or sheriff office. Not only do these people break every federal law by impersonating, scamming and harassing people on a daily basis. They are the real low life's that probably feed off of people fearing of going to prison so they pay the debt immediately but all the whole they are out hundreds of dollars or more because of the fact. Don't give them any information, change account numbers or cards and get identity protection fr your bank or legit company like life lock. That'll cover yourself and eventually these scumbags will get caught then they will be the ones having to "cover themselves accordingly". And I hope these [***] are reading this now and I hope you burn in hell for trying to scam people out of money that are in need of actual help. [***] you, I'm out .

    tired of harassment
I applied for a payday loan about 2.5 years ago and my number appears to be on some call lists. I get threatening phone calls demanding money on a regular basis. They are usually from India. So I was surprised when this guy sounded American.
Anyway it's a scam, don't believe it. They are trying to get your money. I sometimes get 20+ phone calls a day. It's so irritating. It never ends. I hope they find all these [***] and arrest them.

I AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS, AND THE WORSE PART OF THIS IS I HAVE CALLED THE POLICE AND THE COURT HOUSE AND THE FBI AND DID WHAT THEY SAID TO DO!  AND NOTHING?? If you call them and they yake yake yake. this should give the police enough time to trace the call make the arrest!!!!  But no one want's to do the work!!!  It's funny you report this crimes because they tell you too and they don't do anything about it.  I had a call they claim they are from a sheriff office and they was trying to hide their accent, well found out later the sheriff name they was using he died!  I thought it was against the law to say your a DEA or FBI, CIA, IRS,PA, or other law person in that industries?  If they can find these other crooks and killers and we are giving them the information on a silver plate names and numbers and willing to use our self as bait to catch these people why is this still going on!!!!

Such a scam.  Have received the same messages as everyone.  Called then and informed then that they could talk to my attorney since I am in chapter 13.  The person who answered said they will just file a com ain't with the states attorney general and I should hire a defense attorney.  I responded with "ok, have a great day".  I suspect I will never hear from anymore...she was nervous and didn't have anything else to say...just a cheap, unethical debt collector that obviously bought some old debt and is taking a flier to collect.  Such scumbags.

Actually the authorities you mention are attempting to deal with the situation, but most of these scammers are located overseas.  And even if they are domestic,  it is extremely difficult to locate them.

They are criminals and ignore all laws.  Many of them purchase information from perfectly legal sources.

Going to take a while to get the situation under control but the authorities are working on it.   Resources are limited, however.

You can protect yourself for the  time being with a call blocker.
