- Carla Sergi| 4 repliesI just received a call today, that left a voice mail on my cell phone, it simply said that they received a complaint this morning on the internet they where the crime investigation bureau which is part of the fbi, they told to contact the lawyers known as Johnston & peters law partners and the lawyer in that law office is named charles green. the gave me some sort of vm or vp number but forgot it. and if I didn't call these lawyers, they will issue a warrant out for my arrest which they will send to the correctional facility in my state. I have gotten these calls at first and know all of the things they say, to scare me, but when I google the number, which is :1-212-384-1000, it is a real number. it does belong to the fbi, I called the number, and but all I followed where the prompts it gave me. then I came upon the 800notes website and found out that there are several people on here, who are familar with the johnston, & peters law partners, and they said that they where scams. I really don't know what to think,. is this the real thing, or is this a scam, they said all of the words and sentences that scammers usually say, I keep wondering if these scammers made out a false report on me to the fbi, this one is scary, is there anyone out there going through this same type of experience. I would appreciate any help you can give me. thank you ps the call was a recording too, and they didn't really say why what the complaint was all about. thank you,

- amanda| 2 repliesPolice has said that my boyfriend was incarcerated and every time I call they transfer me over to a different number and it goes straight to voicemail

- CWG40 replies to amanda| 1 replyMost likely a debt collection scam. Ignore the call and block it.
- WolfmanJack replies to CWG40The first poster is correct, this number is to the FBI field office in New York, but the rest of what he posts doesn't make any sense. If it is a debt collection scam, then these must be the dumbest criminals in the universe to spoof an actual number like that.
- Bill| 11 repliesI just got a call from 2123841000 claiming that the is a FBI agent investigating a leakage of personal information in large scale and mine was one of them He wants to come and meet me. He is supposed to meet me tomorrow. What is this a scam or what?
- Caller: FBI
- TheRealSeriously® replies to Bill| 3 repliesWhat does the fact that the FBI does NOT call you say?
- BigA replies to TheRealSeriously®| 2 repliesThe problem is that number does track back to the FBI office in New York: https://www.fbi.gov/contact-us/field-offices/newyork
- BigA replies to BillOK, we have established that number is to a real FBI office. So call it or call a different field office and tell them what happened and then ask them if they know this agent.
- TheRealSeriously® replies to BigA| 1 replyEven if it does, I've never heard of the FBI cold-calling anyone-they would just show up
- BigA replies to TheRealSeriously®If they are going to arrest you, yes. If they just want to interview you, possibly not, especially if they feel he is a witness or has personal knowledge of something.
- Bill replies to Bill| 1 replyThe agent called me again and seems to be genuine. He explained about some personal data leak and he just wanted toward me about it.
- Mutton replies to BillBigA's suggestion is solid. Look up the FBI office nearest your city and call it. This sounds very fishy especially since there was a big scam going around several months ago with spoofed FBI numbers. Read here:
https://www.fbi.gov/contact-us/field-offices/ ... ce-phone-number - I 😡 TrollsI remember a few years ago there was a special about debt collectors. One lady was having trouble deal with one of the unethical debt collectors. The one thing I remember the most was she allegedly got a call from the local sheriffs office, according to the Caller ID, the caller was using abusive language. Not sure if the name, number or both were being spoofed. The lady did call 911 about this. I am guessing the collection agency did spoof their number to show that it came from the sheriff. Based on that fact the first post could be true.
