I live on the ocean in California. I don't know anyone in New York City. This is without a doubt a scam call.

robocall to my land line blocked by that rhyming call blocker.  I am an NYU alum and throw a few dollars their way, but I don't like them calling me (they often try to double-dip).

NYU states clearly on their page it's them calling. I won't donate even though I am an alumni. I have applied there for work several times and they won't even hire me so no, they don't get any more money from me!

If a scammer spoofs the phone number (if you don't know what "Caller ID Spoofing" is then look it up) who is actually calling then?

The real question is, if they are really New York University, then why don’t they have the decency to have Caller Id on this number stating NYU or similar? Calls without Caller Id coming through our landline, cell or VOIP are automatically sent to spam. Hello out there!

The CNAM portion of the Caller ID is furnished by the phone carrier not the caller.  They check a database (or several).  If the name hasn't been updated, was never listed, or the phone carrier was too cheap to pay the DIP fees for the CNAM then it might come up as unknown, unavailable, etc.

I agree with the other commenters. If the caller is really New York University, then why don’t they have the pride and decency to use Caller Id??? Besides this number, I have previously reported several (646) numbers, which are also fraudulently representing they are New York University. As a proud graduate of NYU, I donate online only, period.

The caller asks for donations on behalf of NYU.  I do not know whether they are who they claim they are, however, this number is listed on the NYU website for NYU Phonathon.  On the other hand, it could be spoofed.  In my phone, it is now listed as DO NOT ANSWER because I am not interested to giving back to school that charged me hundred thousand dollars for my undergrad education (yeah, I know, it was my choice, but again, 18-year-olds are not most financially savvy) and did not really assist with job placement after I graduated.  I would rather donate to the law school I attended after NYU, which truly taught me the skills I needed to advance my career.

These [***] harrassed me for months 3 years ago by using different phone numbers, including this one. I blocked all their numbers, but they just kept calling using other numbers. It finally stopped, but here they are again over 3 years later calling me again using this number, which I had blocked. They're getting through on this number again because I release a block on an inactive blocked number after 6 months so I have room to block other numbers. Yeah, I get that many scammer calls. I can only block 100 phone numbers before my blocked number feature on my phone is filled up. I remember all of this because I left a message here on this website three years ago complaining about these fools. I just saw my message and it triggered my memory.
