Telemarketers sell goods and/or services.  Several people on here have answered the call and noted that this is a charity call from NYU.  I bet that if you had simply told them to stop calling they would have.

Several websites classify this number as spam, spoofing what has the very unlikely possibly of being a bona fide NYU number. I called the NYU Alumni Office, as I am an alumnus but donate online, and they said they no longer used (212)998-0888 due to being pirated by scammers. There are also scammers representing NYU using (646) numbers. I graduated from different colleges, and all the others solicit donations from alumni by mail, leaving no doubt as to origin. Blocked.
