Received a call from Anthony from Card Services offering a deal to lower any balance over $3000 - made it sound like the card was in trouble...tone of voice sounded like a collector - call was voice identified as Freedom Voice - to sound like a political ad to encourage an answer??? Didn't bother to call the number - have had these before and they don't seem intimidated by anything you say. Why haven't the Consumer Protection Units of the Offices of Attorneys General done anything about these calls that are growing in volume?

This is a scam.  I've been getting calls from "Account Services" and now "Warranty Services", although in my case they've mangled the caller ID.

Here's what they are after: your credit card.  They will ask you what seems like an innocuous set of questions but together they add up to enough information to make changes to your credit card.  They will ask for the following:

    1) the 800 number from the back of your credit card
    2) your full name and address
    3) your date of birth
    4) the last four digits of your social security number

They claim to need this in order to run a credit check.  However, if you've ever had to call your credit card company or bank to get a new card issued, you'll know that this is all the information one needs to identify themselves over the phone to a bank official.  If you give them this information they will undoubtedly have a new card issued to themselves in your name.

When I first encountered this scam I simply assumed they were irresponsible telemarketers (I've been on the DNC list for 3 years) and was trying to fish enough information out of them to file a complaint.  The woman on the phone refused to give me any company info until they'd gotten the above information from me (I gave them fake information to keep her on the line).  She insisted that as soon as she'd created an "account" for me then she'd pass me on to her supervisor who would tell me what I wanted to know.  When I pressed her for at least a website she finally hung up (probably thinking she'd gotten what she wanted anyway).

Anyway, today I got another one, but I also figured out that *12 on Comcast digital voice will log a trace of the last phone call, so I'm filing a complaint with the Oregon AG's office in the hopes they'll obtain the trace from Comcast and perhaps pursue these people.

It's pretty scary how professional the whole scam appeared: sounds like an autodialer  calling ("please stay on the line"), hold music, etc.  All the earmarks of a real call center and enough to fool a lot of people.  Of course, these days *anyone* can build a $500 PC that will perform the functions of a $100,000 autodialer (and the software is free! http://www.asterisk.org), so the fact that they sound professional is probably an illusion.

My guess is that they are operating over hacked/stolen Vonage or other VOIP services and might be difficult to trace (especially since they probably setup the service using a previously stolen credit card), but I figure it's worth a shot.

Anyway, my point is *do not give them **any** real information*, not even your name or zip code.  If you *must* talk to them (i.e. in an attempt to gather info), lie about *everything* - they are lying to you and have no way to immediately verify anything you tell them.

We have been getting this same calls as everyone else... But, on my recording the person says, his name is Steve. and you need to push "1" or "2" as everyone else has said here... I have tried both options.. When I tired push 1. And said yes, just so, I can talk to someone, they ask, if I would like to lower my interest rates, I would say yes, but I have a question, no sooner than I say it, they hang up on me... I have been getting this these calls for sometime now, and yes, they have been coming from Cleveland, Ohio; Roseville, Michigan; and Boca Raton, Florida.......And I have talked to my phone company about this problem, I call block this numbers, if my phone was equip to do so, but I is not..so, phone co. said I can go to the police and lawyers about it...I will say this is bulls---.. Here are a couple more numbers to watch for 586-863-4460//561-948-8074//and of course//216-453-1569...It seems to me the phone company needs to find out who is doing this to everyone.......

I got a call on my cell from this number today but didn't answer. I called back 3x with my number blocked and it was busy. I decided to look it up online and found this site. How do people get your cell number when you have never given it out to anyone but the workplace, friends and family?

I used to work in law enforcement too.  Since niether one us really know if either of us work or have worked in law enforcement (to be 100% sure), if we both did work in law enforcement, however, we would both know this process would be rather time consuming and very difficult to apprend the idiots behind this scam.  I get the calls on a weekly basis.  They are annoying and when I call them back, I get a variety of people, sometimes they can't even tell me who they are.  It is very annoying.  Perhaps the correct agency to report them to would be a respective states consumer fraud division.

216-453-1569 I did some quick research. The number belongs to a company called "Global Crossing Local Services, Inc." It comes up as a Cleveland OH number. I ran a search for the company, and came up with one based out of Pittsford, NY. David R. Carey is listed as the Chairman/CEO of the company. His number is (585) 255-1100. His cell phone is (585) 233-4600. May be he can tell all of us why they keep calling?
