- Cindy| 1 replyPerson with heavy accent called saying she was calling on behalf of Walgreens saying my insurance wanted to have a pharmacist verify that I am taking my medications safely. She knew my name and the address of the Walgreens where I get my prescriptions filled. She then asked for my date of birth. Of course, I hung up but I am a bit disturbed on how this information would be so readily available.......
- Anne| 1 replyMy husband got a call from this number; stated they were from Walgreens, had him verify his DOB and address and then reviewed all of his meds with him as well as any supplements/OTC meds he takes. I think he started to feel uneasy about the call b/c he mentioned it to me. We called the number and connected to an answering machine that said "thank you for calling Walgreens...". I then called Walgreens corporate customer service and they did not know the number or purpose for that type of call but were going to have their tech team look into it. My husband then called our local Walgreens who told him that it was indeed a call from Walgreens (or a third party on behalf of Walgreens) at the request of our health insurance company to help provide management and education of the medications he is taking. They had also called me but Mr. Number blocked it d/t a 7/10 spam rating; they did not leave a message. I hope they call again...
- Anne replies to AnneWalgreens corporate called me back and said they think it's a potential phishing for info scam and suggested I call my local law enforcement. Before I did that, though, I called my insurance company and indeed, it is a program for medication management through a partnership with Walgreens. So there you have it.
- DebbieI just got a call from this number. I told them I was not comfortable discussing my medical history or what mess I'm on. He told me the local store will call and have me come in. Funny thing is I get only my flu shot from them and nothing else and I'm on a crap load of mess. Don't trust them.
- Caller: Walgreens?
- RoxanneGot two calls two days in a row. Says Walgreens on caller ID. No one left message. I called number back and got an answering machine saying you've reached Walgreens and for leave name and and phone number etc.
- Caller: Walgreens
- YvonneI received a call from this number, telling me they had been contacted by Walgreens, and needed an annual medication list update. I did not give them any information. I called my pharmacy and was told that they would only ask me questions like that in person.
- KatieCalled. I didn't answer. No message. Blocked
- grannyso who to believe? My insurance company denies any knowledge of any medication management program as did the Walgreens store. Upsetting as to whether checking up on Walgreens or the patient. Have received many "spoofed" phone calls recently, so anyone's guess whether the phone # even exists.
- Caller: Walgreens
- Sherrie| 1 replyI received a call from this phone number yesterday. I told them I could not speak to them, nd to call me back today. I called the pharmacy manager at my local Walgreens and she told me it was not a scam. She said they have 2 or 3 people that make those calls every day to make sure you are taking your meds correctly, AND THAT THERE ARE NO INTERACTIONS.
- Caller: Walgreens
- Le replies to SherrieI just received a phone call from a person claiming to be Walgreens pharmacy wanting me to give them all of my medical medication history and I didn't feel comfortable with that and I called my local Walgreens and they told me they didn't know what I was talking about I am on sure about what's going on but I do not feel comfortable with this
- AnonymousWhy give out any information to strangers? Why would anyone not err on the side of caution.
- annoy-ed| 1 replyI didn't answer. Caller left no message. Origin: IL, USA. Thank you to all who shared their experiences w/#. Walgreen's did not show up on caller ID, but that is where I get my prescriptions filled. Three weeks ago I received a letter from my insurance company, Humana, inquiring whether I was having my prescriptions filled on time.
- BigA replies to annoy-edSo what exactly does that prove? First most of the posts here indicate this is a scam. Second, caller id spoofing leaves any call you receive in doubt. Please note that several posters here have said they call Walgreens and no one knew anything about this.
- annoy-ed2nd call; 1st was yesterday; left no VM today. Origin: IL, USA.
- JeffFarming information for selling to other companies . this is a call center and not Walgreens or insurance. You can also bet if you hear an accent you are going to be scamed or ripped off.
- Caller: Walgreens
- Call type: Telemarketer
- RussScam as per Google
- Caller: wallgreens
- Kate| 1 replyMissed 1st call and did not accept the 2nd call due to posted interactions from others.Whether Walgreens or the Insurance carriers third party, they are violating HIPAA regulations if its Walgreens or your insurance carrier giving any contact info or personal or medical info out. They can neither give out to anyone nor request that some third party collect info without your express consent. You can sue if they have done this without your knowledge or your consent.
- BigA replies to KateI would suggest that you actually read the law as it does not completely forbid the release of certain information. If it did, it would be impossible for them to conduct business and to bill insurance companies or Medicare/Medicaid.
- Annoyed consumer| 1 replyCaller ID says Walgreens. But since this is NOT the number of MY Walgreens, I'm over 1,000 miles from Illinois, I did not answer it. I let it go to answering machine. Both times they left no message. And the other posters here are smart not to answer any of their questions. In this day and age you should NEVER answer any questions over the phone especially ones of this nature. My doctor is the one who should instruct me as to how and when to use my medications or your phamisist should offer to do it when uou pick up the actual prescriptions. Think about it. Does this stranger calling even have a medical degree. If they give you bad information, and you follow it, you may get sicker or even die. And if this is a scammer you are only opening yourself up to even more scammers collecting personal information about you.
- Caller: Walgreens???
- Call type: Scam suspicion
- andyaz replies to Annoyed consumerI also got 2 calls from this number, the caller ID only showed the number, and they left no message. However, as a certified pharmacy assistant, I'm reasonably certain this is NOT a scam. Medication Management is a fairly new "service" but I've received several job offers in that field. Properly done, it can reduce the cost of prescription drugs AND health care, so insurers are eager to manage everyone's meds. They don't have the means or expertise to implement that type of program themselves, so they contract with a big pharmacy chain to make the service available nationwide. Then, in some areas, the big chain will farm out the job to subcontractors. So in many cases, the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. But technically, everyone is working for your insurance company, and for anyone to do a proper job of managing your meds, they would absolutely need access to your entire medical records, so no HiPAA regs are being violated. However, if you don't answer their phone call, they don't dare leave a message, because just revealing the fact that you take meds WOULD be a HIPAA violation unless they had your express consent to do so.
Please notice that I said REASONABLY certain, and as we know, calls from that number might not always be from that number, so if you don't feel comfortable talking to the caller - don't.
