Consumers across the country report that they're getting telephone calls from people trying to collect on loans the consumers never received or on loans they did receive but for amounts they do not owe. Others are receiving calls from people seeking to recover on loans consumers received but where the creditors never authorized the callers to collect for them. So what's the story?

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

MS WILLIAMS is a scam she is bring that company down with her violation an they way she speak to people i receive a call from her yesterday telling me that my wife was on welfare an we are broke an she hung up in my face i called back an spoke to a Mr Mason an he explained everything to me read me my mini Miranda an explain in full detail about a loan i took out in 2013 with a my cash now or something i don't remember the name but he was such a professional man about it an i told him about what happen an he took a complaint from me on ms Williams and she  maybe on her way out the door i  cant understand who can hire someone like that

Call from lady saying my account number was 150-435 and my husband has an account that is pending litigation and today is the last day before papers are served. When i returned the call, they couldn't locate the account and would call me back in 5 minutes.... 45 minutes ago....

I got a call from this Mrs Williams threating me  about a payday loan I never apply for she said was outstanding. They not only called my home, they called my job telling my co-workers that thay were going to have me served papers at work by police to be sued. When I didnt call them back they call my home again my partner answerd he told them he wouild let me know that they had called.I than recieved a voice message from Mrs Williams threating me harassing me about my sexuality stating " I talked to your partner OMG what is worng with you, your aman  I dont understand whats wrong with people like you, your disgusting and ridickulous". That was enough for me I called that number back and laid into her a** I than hung up on her called back again ask for her so called manager and laid into his a** I than hung up on him called back again and told him i was off that day and we could both play those games and told them to erase my number for their scaming a** so called company roladex and that i was contacting the police one of the guys said to me " oh so you think your tough" I repiled no but my lawyer is I havent heard from them sense.

Theses people were very rude, Itold them I never took out  a payday loan in my life, but there still calling my job and my house

Just because a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt does not mean you owe it
If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:
1.    Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
2.     Demand a debt validation letter by US mail.  E-mail no good.
3.    Do not pay  the collection agent or anyone else a  dime until the debt is validated

Also contact your local attorney general
If they continue to bother you, tell them that you know this is  a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion.  Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the  file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved.   Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now.  If you can find them.

Got a call from this number yesterday but now message, today they left a message marked "urgent".  I know this is a complete scam, there has got to be a way to stop these people.  It is very disturbing to receive these type of calls.

Same problem with the same numbers along with 844-886-5959 for fake miss Davis  through Capital Claims, "which is fake.

I got a call from this # asking for a friend of mine, telling me find them and give them a message that they had a banking issue...i dont discuss banking issues with friends...how did they get my # and my friends name??? Pretty scarey

Received 2 Calls today from mr hollinger but left messaged for me to him at two different #'s.  254-230-0044 and 264-829-5632 extension

They have called so many times I've lost track a Mr. Kennedy who was more than happy to make arraignments to take my money, was so nice until I asked for documents proving the debt they say I owe! Well then the gloves came off threats of criminal charges, garnishment, etc. Said he was an attorney, refused to give me an address or papers showing this debt I am suppose to owe! And the kicker hung up on me 3 times, I called back and then other people started in on me each one hanging up, so I called back over and over and over, the more I called the more angry they got, all because I wanted an address and papers to show this debt I owe! What kind of company won't give you an address or papers to show you your supposedly debt?

Mr. Hollinger called me and told me that I owed money on a payday loan and that he was going to call back and talk to human resources so they could get their money and they would get their money. I told him my lawyer would look in to this and I would not be talking to them anymore.,

For that to happen there would have to be a judgement. That means a Judge. That means a court case. Tell the company to send you something by US Mail (not fax, text, phone, or email) or the only garnish is on the salad.

Lady called asking for someone named Adrian Gonzales or something like that.  I informed her that we had no one by that name employed at our business. That was the end of the call.

It doesn’t block the calls with no caller id but it sure made life a lot nicer. For the ones I can't block, I got myself a "telemarketer repellant" on eBay that works pretty good. I figured, why not make something annoying into something that's fun! It has 25 different phrases that are really funny(nothing dirty).

Receive a call from a man a mr.Lackey claim that I owe a payday loan from 2009.I  asked how do I owe that I don't remember getting loan,he stated that was a small loan but now I owe almost $2700.I am retired so he said they would take 15% of what I get , I told him take me to court if he dare , so he hung up .

This guy said I took out a payday loan a couple years ago. He rattled off my old bank name form 17 years ago, last four of my ss# and my email address... Wow how'd he get my email address.. I have not taken a payday loan up until last year for an emergency.. I wonder if the payday loan place sell's that info to BOZO's .. Never again !
