At work and missed call but would not have answered it anyway.

This is only my personal generic information about unwanted calls.  I am only trying to help out here (to those naysayers who complain about my long winded rant).

                                       Telemarketers

We do not have to be nice to these people ....................  If you don't take my advice of not answering the phone, when they start to talk just reply politely in your sweetest voice:  NO THANK YOU and HANG UP.  That's what I do.

"YOU ARE A TELEMARKETER, AND I DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH ANY COMPANY THAT USES TELEMARKETING AS A FORM OF ADVERTISING".

DON'T ANSWER UNKNOWN CALLS (If it turns out that you did not answer a call from someone you know, number not on this great web site, just call them back).

DON’T HAVE YOUR NUMBER REMOVED! (When you press the number to have your number removed, you confirm that your number is a working number and your known active number is sold to another scammer).

ROBO CALLS: There are 800 area codes with 9,999,999 numbers. Since Robots call every number in succession, they don't need to buy lists from anyone. The FTC receives 250,000 to 300,000 complaints per month, with robocalls responsible for around 60% of those complaints.

TO TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR HOME PHONE: block, use call forward selective to 216-025-0434 (gives them a recording saying its disconnected) , or save calls to a phone address book as spam with a description (spam medical, spam alert, spam microsoft), and continue using this great site for information. MY HOME PHONE (Panasonic Link2Cell Bluetooth® KX-TGH263B LCD/2 Handsets) BLOCKS 250 NUMBERS AND THE ADDRESS BOOK HOLDS 3,000 numbers and the phone talks to you and says spam from across the room (like if you are up on a ladder or disabled).  As of September 2015 I have saved 313 names as spam and don't answer them.

TELEMARKETING:  (and I quote) "The Center for Investigative Reporting joined two news organizations in an investigation of groups that use telemarketers to raise money and found that most of the money is paid to telemarketers, leaving the charities with little, if anything. (3% in some cases)

Not only that but reputable charitable organizations don't solicit donations by phone.

So it's good advice to remember to just say no to anyone who solicits over the phone unless you actually personally know the person calling." (My information adding to this from CNN is:  http://www.cnn.com/2015/05/19/us/scam-charity-investigation/

I got a call from this number at 4:03pm on Feb. 29, 2016.  They didn't leave a message & the caller ID said Houston TX.  I sure this was a spoof caller or a crook trying to see if they can steal credit card number to steal a persons identity.  I always let my answer machine pick up & only people I know will leave a message.  A crook will usually hang up.  I had one start talking when the answer machine picked up because they thought someone answer the phone.  This foreign guy was real stupid because he kept says...Mam, mam, mam, could I get a word in.  Then he finally realized it was an answer machine that he was talking to & he then had some obscene words to say.  A real company won't or shouldn't say words he said so this let me know he was a crook.

You are so right.  One in question is one that is a call from the policeman association.  They give just enough to make themselves legal but more goes into the person's pocket that is calling for the donation than is given to the actual policeman association.  Plus they never say which town the policeman's association is calling from.  I ask a guy that question one day & he got really mad at me & cussed me out on the phone.  I then told him he was a scammer & a crook because if he was real, all the money he gets as a donation would be 100% donated to the real policeman's association in the town he was calling from.  I also told him that a real person taking donations over the phone wouldn't talk with such vulgar language.  He cussed me out some more & then hung up on me.

Good ole Frankly, what would I do without his daily calls?  The number calls nearly every day always comes up as Frankly Espinal on my caller ID, I never answers, and no message is ever left on my answering machine.  Now I know no one by that name, I don't know of any company by that name, and a wrong number does not call every day for weeks on end, so I strongly suspect a robocall, or a call checking to see if someone will answer so they can sell the number to telemarketers..

If we don't recognize the number, and the CID is misleading, like displaying "Houston TX", we ignore it. The City of Houston , if it were calling, would ID itself on the CID, as they have called us before all be it a case of a wrong number. Other sites report this number belongs to  a harasser that calls and hangs up. Apparently, people do not teach their kids not to play with the telephone these days.

WOW!  I started this thread with my post and this is the smartest group of people of any thread I have ever been on with regard to not answering and not calling back, and Rox, you ROCK with all your great and helpful information. Thank you! I have only one thing to add. A phone blocker is a great help. I have Phone Tray Pro, but there are many one the market, and most are quite affordable, effective and user-friendly. Mine gives you a number of recorded options to answer with..."You have reached a number that is no longer in working order (complete with the three tones preceding the message, like in the real thing, and about a dozen more choices.. It is very user friendly and I must have two or three hundred numbers blocked by now. (There is no limitation.) Also, you can block complete area codes  and/or prefixes, like this:  277-894-xxxx. The x's mean any number that follows. You can also use ???? instead of xxxx., They can keep changing their last 4  numbers, which they do, and they're still  history. YAY US!! (P.S. I am not a Phone Tray employee. It's just that I love it. It has made my life so much easier..)
