Same company, different number...

Called my house looking for my brother-in-law (who's never lived here!). Left a message on the answering machine
Bob Johnson "W/ The Legal Department" at P & V Capital.
Gave a reference "File Number"

Left a different call-back number than caller ID: 877-684-8352

Caller identifies himself as Lewis Petacio of P & V Capital (last name sounds as spelled).  Calling the home number of my 95 year old mother.  He has been told there is no one at this number with the name he is asking about and to please cease and desist from calling this number again.  He called today while I was there 5 times in a row saying the message is for someone we do not know, just the same last name.  He says it is about a legal matter.  My mother lives alone and it is very difficult for her to get up and answer the phone, this is truly harrassment

Someone from this number called claiming he was J. Riley Cates and had an urgent message for my neighbors.  Wanted me to give my neighbors his number and have them call him.  Acted very mysterious and urgent on the phone.  I took his number so I could report him.  The number he gave me for the neighbors to call was 877-236-3718 x1107.

I am new in this neighborhood and do not wish to be involved in my neighbors' personal business.  I believe it is unethical to bother people about other people's personal affairs.  I believe there should be laws against this kind of practice.

Isnt it easier to pay your bills...  Instead of whining about how terrible it is to be contacted by a debt collector?  Remember it WAS a credit card,  NOT a gift card.  It seems nowadays everybody thinks they are entitled to something for nothing.  Its nauseating for all of us that work hard to pay our bills, to sit and listen to people whine and make excuses as to why they shouldn't have to pay theirs.  Grow up.  If you cant afford it then dont buy it.  Lets start teaching our children some real values.

I see how cowards work now; you hide and then say pay your bills scum, pay your bills scum... If you were a real collection agency you would call, be polite and work with the consumer. Most of us are more than willing to arrange something. But when people like you and your company call like you do, well then its game on brother... I know where you work and is not too far from here, brother... Easy enough to conduct business in person? How about it Pal, want to try that or hide behind your little phone as you have put it.

This company is a big scam , they have no investigators or any type of legal department. They called me and said they were going to take me to court. Do not pay them a dime, they are a bunch off scam artist, trying to scare people to take there money.

Harrassing my in-laws 10 hours away....how do I stop them

My neighbor took a message from a guy at PV Capital. He told her they needed to talk to me regarding an important legal matter. I called on Friday (5/21) and was informed they were needing to talk to me to arrange for repayment of a CC debt (that is over a year old). Mr. K offered to settle this debt for about 68% of balance and if I did not, they would sue me. I never heard of these people and wanted to know why they never notified me of the matter and started calling my neighbors. He said they did send me a letter a few weeks ago (which I don't recall receiving) and they were unable to reach me by phone (probably because my phone rejects 'anonymous' calls but still logs them). Since they never received response from me, they assigned my account to an investigator and discovered where my husband works and our neighbors. (I have not been employed for over 2 years.) I started to dispute the matter with him and he handed the phone to his supervisor, Mr A, who was an even faster talker and made me an offer to settle for 60% (of their inflated balance). I again requested that they send me another copy of their letter (which I never received in the first place) yet he kept talking over me and insisted that if I did not agree to settle, they would file suit against me and my husband. I informed him that the debt was solely mine and I have not been employed for over 2 years and now faced with medical bills as I was just diagnosed with colon cancer. He remarked that since Texas is a 'community property state', they would sue both of us (and did not even acknowledge my comment about my medical bills). He again pushed for agreement to settle. I told him I had enough intimidation from them for the day and was ending the conversation--'click'. I called back later and asked Mr K to send me a copy of the supposed letter they previously sent. He agreed to email letter and agreement form to me.

This morning Jerk Supervisor, Mr A called me and wanted to know what I intended to do. I told him that I requested a copy of the letter and he started to talk over me again pushing for agreement arrangement. I informed him I wanted a copy of the letter and refused to discuss with them any further until I had an opportunity to review the situation. He started to talk over me again and I told him to send me the letter and I hung up. I received a copy of the letter via email shortly thereafter.

I noted that the balance they claim is about $2,000 more than what I remembered from the original creditor. The letter was from P & V Capital, LP in Houston and mentioned that they were collecting on behalf of their client CDP Interests, LLC (NOT the original creditor) which agreed to an 'unconditional deletion of this record' on my credit report if I agreed to settle.

I, in turn, did some investigating on THEM. I found that P&V Capital, LP is a Texas company whose responsible party is GRANT DUNWOODY. I also discovered that CDP Interests, LLC is also a Texas company whose managing member is (you guessed it!) GRANT DUNWOODY. When I searched for GRANT DUNWOODY, I find that he is (guess what???) an ATTORNEY in Houston who specializes in (you guessed it again!) COLLECTIONS!! This is definitely a scam!!!

I fired off a 'Dispute and Validation' letter to them requesting an accounting of the amount they say I owe; proof that I owe it to them and to identify their relationship to the original creditor AND between their entities. I sent letter via USPS Priority Mail with Delivery Confirmation. I should know more in 30 days.

I have been receiving calls at my home for the last couple of months looking for an aquaintance.  Identify themselves as calling from P V Capital out of Houston TX.  When I told them I had no contact with the person they are looking for, they said she gave me (and my phone number) as a reference.  I let them know that I have had no contact with this person for 15 years and it is highly unlikely she would have given my name and number as a reference.   I told him I know they are nothing more than collectors, which he denied (of course).  

A previous caller, Mr. Morgan, said calling from Lambert Associates, also from Houston, saying he needed to contact this person regarding a potential legal matter....he was an assett liability investigator!!   Also told this person to never call my number again.   (so the next call comes from P V Capital)...   How do you get these people to stop calling?

These people really suck at scamming. They called my business looking for a former employee, I told them he no longer worked for me. The asked for forwarding information and I told them I didn't have any because he didn't leave on good terms. They asked my name and I only gave them my first name... Thirty minutes later they started calling asking for me and trying to pull the same crap. When I asked Dan Acosta the VP (as he referred to himself) what they did or why they were calling he just kept going in a circle repeating his name and title. What a joke of a company!!!

I don't think it is a matter of not paying your bills I think it is more a matter of unethical practices. I have received 4 phone calls from this number and they keep saying that they are trying to reach my neighbor!  If you are looking for my neighbor, you obviously know his name and address since you gave it to me then why are you harassing me?  Matter of fact how did you get my name and phone number since I do not even know this neighbor?
So, like I said this is an ethics issue.

Just called and ask for my husband by his middle name not first name or whole name.  So they obviously knew what name he goes by on a regular basis.  I said he wasn't here could I take a message.  Says that she is calling from PV Capital and needs to speak with him.  Asks if I have another number for him, I said, his cell isn't working.  Asked when I expect him home, I said not until late.  Asked for a work number, I told her I didn't have it.  Asked my who I was, I said I was his wife and then asked me for his SS#.  I hung up the phone.  They called back and I unplugged it.  It all felt really shady to me.  They way she was speaking.  Didn't sound very professional at all.  It was awkward and I'm not dumb enough to give out my husband's SS# on the phone to people I don't know....
I don't trust these people.

To many unwanted calls asking for a person I do not know.

This company has a pattern here that if anyone wanted to FTC and file a complaint on, they would have a pretty good case.  If you look through the various entries under this number, or any of the other extensions they use, one would see that they are consistent in saying they have previously sent a letter.  Most individuals here state that they have never received a letter when P&V capital calls about the matter.  They are required by the FDCPA to send you a letter and to give you the opportunity to validate/dispute the debt.  I would think that a complaint referencing these blogs to the FTC would yield some results.  These guys are purchasing old debt from mostly companies who have long written off the account, been purchased or have even gone out of business.  I would imagine they are stating that the letter was sent "several weeks ago" because they know that if they had to provide documentation on the debt they would not be able to provide such information.  Further, they also seem, as mentioned by the other posts, to inflate the debt amount; another violation of the FDCPA ("debt collectors may not misrepresent the amount of the debt owed").  Do your homework when receiving a phone call from these people.  Ask for validation if you get a letter.  If you get a call out of the blue such as MJ_Tx above, ask for a mailing address and request that they validate the dept (certified ail, return receipt requested).  Just Fyi, the other numbers they call from are as follows:

Also, if they persist with calling neighbors, family members, etc.,  AFTER they have reached you directly; this is very much harrassment.  Document all calls received by parties other than yourself and talk to an attorney who sues debt collectors.  You would be surprised how much money the Debt Collector, P&V capital in this case, could be forced to pay!  And no, I am not an attorney nor do I represent one but I have been around the block with debt collectors before.

What address did you send your letter to in Houston? I am having a hard time finding an address for this P&V Capital company and I have the same issue as you. They are calling everyone I know about this and I need it to stop!

This appears to be a front for an attorney. He lurks in the background .They appear to set up a chinese wall and hop around an obvious ethical dilema. Don't be fooled. Call in to the Attorney Generals Office to investigate this company.!
