The card service scammers   WILL   'service' our credit cards,   BUT,   when they finish 'servicing' them, they will have NO available credit remaining! People that are fooled into having their cards 'serviced' will be charged a MINIMUM of $795.00, and many times the ENTIRE amount remaining on the card. The card service scammers are a disgusting group of degenerates, who prey mainly on the low income, and the elderly, but will cheat anyone that they can!

because the number wasn't really the number they were dialing you from.  they've forged their caller ID to get you to answer.

Just got this call. What makes me mad is I'm on the Do Not Call registry but that doesn't seem to do any good. I didn't answer because I never answer a number that I don't know. What's the point of the registry if I keep getting telemarketer calls on my cell phone at all hours of the day and night

Got a call from this number on cell......Location said Romney, WV .. seriously?!
Never trust these numbers anymore, IF legit they will leave a message a purpose of the call.

As I started doing with all of these kind of calls, I immediately put a "block" of the number on my phone, good riddance !

    A Camp.
Got two calls twice in a row today (and another from Nevada yesterday, which I'd be willing to bet are from the same people). It was on my cell, so I let the answering service with it's own robo voice take the call. No message, of course.

Unfortunately, if they're using an autodialer, it's likely just coming up with random numbers, which means no one is safe from them and if they're scammers (and they probably are), they aren't going to care about the no-call list. Chances are their offices aren't even in the US and they're spoofing numbers to get to their prospective victims.

    Best advice I can give:

    1. Unless you know for sure who it is, don't pick up. Let the answering machine/service get it. If it's important or loved ones, they will (or should) leave a message and you can call them back immediately

    2. If you do pick up, don't confirm who you are, not even with a simple 'Yes' to the question 'is this so-and-so'. Instead, ask them who they are, and who and what they are calling for. Any legit caller will be aware of scamming problems and should have no problems with telling you who they are and what they want at your request. If they tell you that they can't speak to anyone but the targeted person, then volunteer to take the caller's name, company, and contact number and at least an idea of what the call is about. Again, if they're legit, they'll give that freely. If not, nine times out of ten, they'll hang up right there and then (or turn into a**es, at which point feel free to hang up on them).

    3. DO NOT give out any personal information over the phone. Ever. If all else fails, thank the caller and state you/the person they called for will call the company in question back when you/they have the time. If they claim to be calling from a legit company (like, say Bank of America or Discover), DON'T use the number they just gave you, but rather look up the contact numbers on the actual site for the company, call their customer service, and tell them what happened. Not only will it confirm or deny if the call had been legit, but it will also let the companies know if something strange, like their name being used as part of a scam, is going on, and they can warn their customers.

    4. If your phone has a block or reject function, use it. Sometimes, they'll call for months before they figure out they'd have an easier time getting blood from a stone. Just be patient, don't lose your head, and remember that they can't do anything to you unless you give them something. Other than be annoying.

Exactly why do you think we have investigative and law enforcement posers?  Perhaps you should complain to the proper authorities.
