- Mary replies to Lindsay BMe sick of it
- JJGot the same bull crap. Wow right before the holidays. Go get a real job Mr. Lasater, Mrs. Cunningham, Mrs. Rogers. This is a complete and total scam.
- isaIm getting the same calls for months!
- Treonte replies to rdI got the same call yesterday and they are a scam
- AB| 1 replyI see these scammers have a new phone number so they can try to call me and avoid my call blocker. If you receive calls from these people, they are scammers and frauds. Do not give them any money. They try to sound legitimate and throw around legal sounding jargon to scare people. I have been getting calls from these people for months now and no one has ever sued me and I am not in jail. They are lying and trying to scare you but they are frauds and they will not arrest you. I get tired of them sometimes and today I decided to have a little bit of fun. I have called them back about twenty times now. They have started to just hang up on me now. I asked them if they like it when people keep calling them for no reason. They just hang up. They are cowards. I have reported them to the police in my town and in Miami, Florida now as well as I have filed with the Michigan State Attorney General and the Florida State Attorney General. These people are low life scum and I pray they do not prey upon innocent people who they intimidate and scare and falsly take money from innocent, law-abiding people. Too bad for them, but, I have no money to give them so it is a waste of their time to even call me. Oh well, since I am retired and disabled, I have plenty of time to harass them back.
- Caller: United Financial and various other names
- NanGot the same call I did not answer.. I get these calls all day... It's sad that these people have such senseless hearts to spend all day scamming people...
- Nan| 1 replyThe lady is Melissa Cunnigham...
It's so sad Ms Melissa has gotten caught up in this scam she is going straight hell along with the other crooks on that line and fradulant company...- Caller: Loan
- Nicole West-Barnes| 1 replyThreatening that I've applied online for payday loans fraudulent, bank records indicate no such thing
- Caller: new funding
- AB replies to NanYes, it is sad that they are preying upon innocent people. They must be making a lot of money from this because they are always getting new phone munbers. They sometimes call me two or three times in a day and leave me a message. The Caller ID has them calling me from Florida, Texas. Georgia, etc. The same person who keeps calling me must have a lot of frequent flyer miles as she seems to jet around the country all day making phone calls. Karen Rodgers calls me the most. She must like me! Well, today they went too far. I am not going to let this sit anymore. I will be their worst nightmare. They really don't like it when I keep calling them back. I told them too bad because I don't like them to keep calling me! They picked the wrong crazy lady to mess with! (Besides, they do not have the right information on me. They keep telling a Social Security Number that is incorrect. They are incredibly stupid people.)
- AB replies to Nicole West-BarnesExactly, they tell me the same thing. I have NEVER had a payday loan. Once they get your number, they do not let up, though. They even get new phone numbers when they find you are blocking their calls.
- AB| 2 repliesSadly, the only thing that can be done to stop this craziness is to change your phone number. It is pathetic to have to take such extreme measures, but, it is the only thing I can think of that will stop the calls.
- Caller: United Financial aka Total Fraudsters
- Elspeth replies to AB| 1 replyUnfortunately, if you change your number, you may end up getting more calls for someone else. Best to keep doing what you've been doing - blocking their calls. And you're right, there must be enough people fall for this that they keep calling other people.
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0258-fake-debt-collectors
Consumers across the country report that they're getting telephone calls from people trying to collect on loans the consumers never received or on loans they did receive but for amounts they do not owe. Others are receiving calls from people seeking to recover on loans consumers received but where the creditors never authorized the callers to collect for them. So what's the story?
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:
is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.
Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law. - AB replies to ElspethThank you for your response. I am at my wits end with these calls. I was advised by our local police department to get a new phone number but, you are right, I might end up with phone calls from someone else's old number who probably changed their number for the same reason's I am changing my number. I really do not want to change my number but I am getting really tired of this. I went from April until now trying to ignore these idiots but they are still calling. It has been nine months of these calls. I really lost it with them today. They are driving me crazy! I was hoping to change my number and thinking the calls would stop. I guess that may not hapen.
- mimi replies to CGot the same message from Melissa Cunningham this is definitely a scam
- MLEE| 1 replyJust rcvd the same message from same person...
Funny they don't know my name but they have some legal issue... Total scam.
Not getting tricked in Indiana.... - AB replies to MLEEGood for you! They are the scum of the earth and I hope they rot in you know where for what they are doing to honest and hard working people in this country. Do not let them wear you down. They will probably keep calling you. Dont answer unless you know who it is who is calling. Let it go to voice mail and add them to your reject list. Hope you have a lovely holiday! (Merry Christmas)
- Teresa replies to On at 10pm, 9 centralthat would be a great idea, I think I will contract my friend about this, she works for NBC.
- Teresa replies to Cthere has to be something se can do about this. Innocent people are being taken advantage of whether they send money or not and although I do not answer the calls I have saved them with their voicemails and turned them over tot he FTC/Attorney General's office for those cities they apparently call from.
- RJ replies to CI received calls from this number same details, except this time she used the name Laura Cunningham instead of Melissa Cunningham. This is definitely a scam!
