- KathyThese people call 2-3 times a day along with other annoying calls. I keep a list of numbers that call me on a regular basis. I either put them on hold until they give up or I pick up the phone and hang up before they can talk. It seems to be working!

- dp replies to Executive Assistant.I know what you mean. When these people call here to talk to our CEO, I have to ask who is calling and they always respond with "He will know me, just put me through." When I tell them he is out of the office, I have also gotten the line, "Well, I will just call his cell phone then. . . what was that number again? I don't have it here in front of me." I tell them that perhaps they should get more organized so they don't lose their phone numbers. He hung on me.
- NancyHad a call from 'Mike' - asked 'Mike' who? Said Mike Palumbo. Then asked w/ what company (like he's a personal friend of the President here) - said Houlihan and by that time I had googled his company, explained to the President who I thought they were and waht they represented and he got 'busy'. Then I tried to transfer this guy to his voice mail and he wanted me to personally take his name and company on a note into the Pres. Hung up on him. he called back in a few mins and this time did allow me to put him into voice mail. Pushy? you might say so.

- Executive AssistantI have been with my company for 5 years now and for the past 5 years I've got a lot of calls from Houlihan Smith. Today was no exception. My first call of the morning was a call from "Mario Andretti." I had lots of fun playing with him. It's a great start to my day when I can make a telemarketer hang up on me. I wonder if "Paul Simon" will call tomorrow. Hehehe.

- TX Gal| 1 replyGot a call today from these "wonderful" rude pushy people. When told him the owner wasnt in he act like he didnt understand that. He actually said "so he isnt in?" in a confused manner. I said correct! He asked when he will be in I said he wont is there a message i can take? He said no and he will call back. 2 mins later same company calls back but different rep. Told him the same thing. he asked for a phone number in that sly i dont really have it but will try to get it kind of way. Told him he doesnt have another number. He says wow your tone changed and laughed and hung up the phone. I really hate Houilan Smith. They call repeatedly!!

- Nashville gatekeeperToday I received a call from this number - and it's not the first time. Thankfully, the caller today was not rude to me as they have been in the past. The guy asked "Is Fred in?" like it was all he could do to get the words out. When I said "no he isn't, could I take a message?". (Which is my standard answer when I think it's a telemarketer) He said "no thanks, I'll call back." I was about to hang up when I heard him talking. I started listening and heard him say (I guess on another line he had going at the same time) "No thanks. I had an immediate need to speak with him" then a pause (I suppose while the person on the other line was talking) then "Strange? Maybe I think YOU'RE acting strange!" He proceeded to mumble and grumble and then I guess he realized that he'd failed to disconnect my call and disconnected. I felt sure it was a telemarketer, but once I had the pleasure of listening to how he treated another one of us poor souls that have to deal with their rude attitudes, I was positive.
- Insight| 1 replyJust to clarify, Houlihan Smith is a real organization, they just don't have a good reputation. They use a very unconventional approach to business. They consider themselves a specialized investment firm that provides financial advisory and financing services (http://www.houlihansmith.com/). I'll let you determine for yourself if you believe this to be the case. They basically break the company into two areas: financial advisory and financing services. Financial advisory would the solvency / fairness / valuation opinions they provide. Financing services would be what most consider the investment banking arm of the business.
I was asked to review one of their valuation reports by a firm who had used them. There were numerous grammatical and graphical errors which I would not have expected, but this can happen. Also, the report read like an intro to Finance text. In other words, there was a lot of extraneous information included in the report that did not impact the conclusion of value. Again, this happens, as it is likely to make a report look "beefier" than it actually is. What interested me most was the logic behind the valuation. Valuation is a very arbitrary subject - most would argue more art than science - and people will constantly argue over various aspects of it. However, there were multiple examples in this report that demonstrated a lack of understanding of the fundamental concepts of valuation. In reviewing the publicly available bios (http://www.houlihansmith.com/index.php/about-us/professionals), it brings up the issue of competent staff within Houlihan Smith. I commend them for making these bios publicly available, but doing basic due diligence will help you understand that these are not the bios of top investment banking firms.
Also, most investment banks who provide financing services provide a list of the deals they've done, if for no other reason than to provide creditability. Investment bankers are usually pretty good at bragging about themselves. But, not only are there no deals presented on the web site, I can't find record of any deals they've done anywhere. I've spoken to investment bankers at three different NY firms...no one knows any deals they've done. Also, look at the bios of NY investment bankers. They will readily and happily tell you what deals they've done. Houlihan Smith employees don't provide this. Again, make your own conclusions. - Chris 1959Holiahan and Smith very RUDE PUSHY I hung up on them

- LisaMike Andretti called looking for the President of our company. Ask for the name of the company.. Houlihan-Smith. I asked what number he was calling from because his number came up blocked. After several more minutes of being harrassed, I asked that he remove our name from his listing, and he says, "you seem a little agitated?". Yes because we have asked you not to call and you continue to do so. I hung up the phone. I am contacting Better Business Bureau and reporting them. Very rude for a rep for investments.
