- 1ReceptionistGot a call from a guy asking for the Pres. of our company by a nickname that only his personal friends use. That always puts me on alert because the pres. rarely gets personal calls through the switchboard. I told the caller he was not in, and he asked when I expected him. Told him I didn't know when to expect him today, and he said "that's ok, I'll try him after lunch." He acted like they were old friends or something. I looked up the number from the caller ID and found this site. Now he will never get through to him. I have a feeling that our pres. will always be out, or busy, etc. whenever these people call again!
- jimHe was just a jerk and would not give up

- Office Mgr-MiamiDitto! Ditto! Ditto! Everything you all reported and more. Rude, pushy, demanding. Someone named Mike Andretti argued with me for several minutes, insisting that the owner of our company was waiting for him to call. My boss was upset with me for even asking him if he wanted to take the call.
When I refused to take the phone number so my boss could return his call, 'Mike" demanded to know "Who are you? His wife or something?" I told him I was the office manager and he said the "won't cut it; I need to speak to the man in charge"..that's when I hung up.- Caller: Houlihan Smith

- A.C replies to Former Employee| 2 repliesAhh, this makes a lot of sense now. I too received a call from a vaguely rude man. I have had dealings with the IPA people. I have a file on all the calls they made to us and the reports I made to the BBB. My advise is for veryone to follow suit!
- Trixie replies to A.C| 1 replyWho is the BBB? And how would I contact them?
- Trixie replies to TrixieDUH!!! Nevermind!
- P.J.Not the race car driver, but spelled Andrade.
- OliveI get the same calls and keep logs of each time they call. I got Mike Scott Thomas on 12/18/06, Shawn Corbin on 01/12/07, Shapiro back on 03/30/07, Jim on 11/1/07 and today Peter Waddle 05/16/08. These guys are non-stop. Too bad my boss seems to always be on a confrence call when they call in :)
They end up saying, "I'll just try him on his cell" yea right.- Caller: Hullahan Smith

- SBTOO funny! I too am the assistant to a CEO and have screened calls for years - this guy seriously thought he was getting one over on me. His 'act' like he totally is important and knows my boss was SO SUSPECT that duh i'm going to fall for it. what an idiot. I think I was well will give anyone this number at a bar, etc. - let everyone start calling him. His name is 'Tom Allen'. I seriously would love to call this guy back now after reading this site - i knew it was phony - but came online to look up the number and company website and stumbled across this msg board. UGH!!!
- receptionistThese people are extremely rude and verbally abusive. They call my place of work at least once a day and suck up my time. I'm glad I found this site so I know not to take it personally and to continue monitoring the calls like I do without feeling guilty about hanging up on them.

- ControllerI saw on the caller ID the name Houlihan Smith. Since it comes up quite often (at least once a week) I decided to answer the phone myself. My sales/customer staff has to make outbound calls to their customers so they're a little too sympathetic with sales calls and don't assert enough pressure to ensure the person will take us off their call list. Immediately the caller asks for the President by first name and says it quickly like he's in a hurry. I go through the motions of taking his information as if I'm going to transfer the call. I finally inform him that the President doesn't take sales calls and it would probably be a good idea for him to take us off his call list. Says he doesn't have a call list. He informs that there is also another Houlihan company (Houlihan Lokey) and I should really step on eggshells. Whatever that means??? The guy was very curt and tried to respond quickly so I would be fluster and pass along the call. I'm sure he thought he was reaching a secretary... unfortunately for him he reached the controller. Needless to say, I will never be recommending their firm for any of our investments to the stockholders.

- CACSame as all the other comments I've read on these jerks. One of my favorite put-offs (at least it satisfies me !) is to ask them why they have a job where they have to lie to make a living.

- 12502Received a call from this salesperson, said he wanted to speak with the owner of my company. I asked what is was regarding & he pretty much told me it was none of my business. When actually it is my business & my JOB!!! Needless to say I asked him if he would like to leave a message & he asked me that when I told my boss who he was with if he recognized the firm name. I said "NO". He got irate and hung up.

- QBA gentleman (and I use that term loosely) called and asked for the President of the Company by name (one that he never goes by). That was the first clue. After telling him I would have to locate him, I put him on hold and left him there. I went back about 10 minutes later and he had hung up. Be sickening sweet to them and it makes you feel a lot better because they really think they are going to get through. MAKE MY DAY!

- Gordon Gekko, Investment Banker| 14 repliesIt's an Investment Banking firm. Ask anyone of high repute in the business(Merrill Lynch, Goldman Sachs, Salomon Smith Barney, Morgan Stanley, etc), about their professional demeanor. Investment Banking is for bold, driven, take charge individuals, not wusses. Consider this, do you think a business owner/c-level executive really wants a nosey, gossipy secretary/receptionist knowing that he or she took a call regarding the possible sale of the company or search for needed working capital?
Furthermore, as anyone IN the field can attest, hours as an entry level associate are LONG(!); whatever it takes to actually do what it is you claim to do. 7a-7p is considered a pleasure cruise. If you're looking for a 30-hour work week, Starbucks might be more to your liking.- Caller: Houlihan Smith

- Gordon Gecko got sodomized in prison replies to Gordon Gekko, Investment Banker| 2 replieshey Gordon? quick ? for ya, why do half of the people who work as "investment bankers" at Houlihan not have even the most basic 4-year collge degrees? Can you tell me why those people that runs the "sales" force are not listed in the company website? Maybe if not for lying and ripping off biz owners, all of you would be at starbucks...Can you answer me that one?
- FredCaller identified himself from Houlihan Smith. Wanted to talk to me about lending our company money. Very arrogant sales person. Did some checking on the internet and found them to be an existing company. Some comments on their tactics were very negative.

- I used to work there too replies to Gordon Gekko, Investment Banker| 2 repliesSure it's an "investment banking firm", but one of high repute? i think not. And you say that you want driven and take charge individuals to work there, however, the first sight of someone that actually has common sense and the knowledge to not be treated as a slave- you do what? get them out of there as quickly as possible because of.... let's say "insubordination"? This company is a joke- the only ones that move up are brown noses. So i'd rather work at Starbucks anyday and earn an honest promo before i bust my butt working for a company like this one 10-14hrs a day, 7 days a week- then on payday worry about whether you are even getting a check. Get real!!

- Gekko replies to Gordon Gecko got sodomized in prison| 1 replyWouldn't know anything about their specific employee mix, but in any SUCCESSFUL IB firm there would need to be a much larger support staff under the top tier transaction executives in order to effectively execute its mission.
PEOPLE - with such a juvenile reference to "prison sodomy" and exemplary diction as "those people that runs...", consider the source.
