Matt Perkins of Madison Street Capital called my office today asking for the CEO of my company by his first name only. When I informed him that he retired a year ago he asked for the new CEO. I gave him voicemail because I knew it was a sales/telemarketer! I love putting these creeps in voicemail hell :)

Madison Street Capital, used to work there. Charles Botchway and Tony Marsala run this company. It's as close to a scam without legally being a scam as you're going to get. They sign up everyone for their "services" and then don't help them.  Hang up the phone if you get a call from these guys, they're useless. If you work there, get out while you can. THERE ARE OTHER JOBS

This company is for all intensive purposes Houlihan Smith, they've rebranded themselves and from what I'm told Richard Houlihan (the same Houlihan as Houlihan Lokey) left and with it any sort of credibility.  While the cold callers are "abusive" to secritaries (lets be honest most of the time secritaries are pricks) it is because Charles Botchway and his crew are ruthless SOB's that will publicly berate and belittle their minions when they fail to meet certain quotas.  Do they get deals done, sure they do but not nearly as many as they would have you believe.  They've found a niche market for small to medium sized business owners that don't neccesarily have the same access to capital or I-Banks that your larger and more established companies do.  Don't dick these people around just tell them to put you on the "do not call list" and that your conversation is recorded so you can take further action if they harass you again.  In fairness the men working in the "boiler room" are generally good people trying to make a living and not out to rip people off.  Instead of putting them in voicemail hell (which will not work because the lead sheets are passed around daily and a different person will continue to call you, day after day) make light of their terrible situation and tell them to watch out and not drink Botchway's Pellegrino because he'll put a beating on them (true story, the guy is a crook and a nut job).  BTW, if you want to mess with them, Matt Perkin's real name is "Maz" so throw it back at him.  For some light reading look up the company IPA, that's where Botchway and a few other "associates" came from, talk about horror stories and stealing peoples money.  In sumation, be direct with them because you'll keep getting calls until you do so and who wants to waste their time.

A guy named Michael Andretti called from Madison Street & was so persistent in trying to speak to the president of our company...he finally got the message when I put him on hold several times, then finally hung up on him.

A jerk through and through.  My boss is busy enough as it is without having to deal with scumbags like these people.

Yes, most "Executive Assistants" a.k.a. SECRETARIES tend to be not so nice on the phone (there are the exceptions that don't mind being friendly and actually talk to you like a person so kudos to you).  Don't worry, I understand!! Your primary job is to be a gatekeeper for the head honcho, and I'm sure you field a whole slew of bs phone calls from people trying to pitch stocks or bonds or get the owner to invest his/her money in some other venture or sell some printer paper blah blah blah.  So again, I understand your heartless job of telling people who are not friends, family or current business associates to [***].  But just remember, even telemarketers are getting up and going to work everyday just like you, trying to put bread on the table just like you, trying to feed their kids and pay the bills JUST LIKE YOU.  Keep that in mind the next time somebody calls you and says Hi to you and address you by your name and actually acknowledges your existence as a human being on the other side of the phone regardless if you know them or not and regardless if you screen them or not.  Since when was being nice to a stranger so wrong?  The moral of the story is, just like you expect people to not be [***] to you, try returning the favor for once.  P.s. don't you have better things to do post angry messages on 800notes while you're at work?  Food for thought....

I am consistently professional and kind to the people that call our business- as that is my JOB. However- when telemarketers use lies and or deceitful practices to try to gain access to people in our office, I tend to get a bit defensive. I am never rude even when people say awful things to me or blatantly LIE to me to try to get through to my boss who is an extremely busy man. I am not heartless at all- just trying to feed MY kids and pay MY bills, etc....

PS-  don't you have better things to do as well??

As mentioned above called and asked for our CEO by only his first name...as if they were buddies.  When told our CEO was not in, they asked when they could call back.  Told him he is out of town indefinitely.  Waste of time.

Here is a brief story on what my business faced with Madison Capital. First a gentleman by the name of Dominique Ransay called our office and scheduled a meeting with me to discuss appropriate financing and create capitalization structures to optimize our potential. When he arrived the first thing I mentioned to him was that I was in no way going to pay any upfront costs. We continued our conversation for about an hour. He then called his corporate office and scheduled someone from Chicago to come visit us the next day, which sounded to freaky. Normally to schedule a business trip from Chicago to San Antonio, you would at least give it a few days. Anyhow I said that was fine as long as there would be no upfront fees. A gentleman by the name of Rick Johnston arrived the next morning fresh out of Chicago in a Texas Plates Continental (non-rental vehicle) to our office. I again stated to him that I would in no way pay any upfront fees. He kept ignoring the conversation regarding money upfront. We continued our conversation from about 9:00 am till about almot 4:00pm. Right at about 3:00 pm, I finally made him fess up to any upfront fees. He then told me that first of all I would have to cut him a check for $1,950.00 for that day for his consultation, however that being said he then told us that this did not mean we would get approved for any type of financing just yet. In order for them to even consider it, there would be another fee of another measly 35 to 40 thousand dollars for an internal evaluation of our company. After this evaluatiion this still did not give us any guarantee of any type of financing just yet. He stated that this was a normal procedure and then proceded to tell me to give him his $1,950. I had enough after this and told him I was not going to give him a dime. He then became angry and got me on a conference call with Dominique and supposedly his Chicago office. We al spoke and they all tried to convince me that they had told me the fee was normal. Of course I did not fall for their game and sent him away.  My advise to Madison Street Capital would be to be upfront with your fees and change your latest testimonies on your website. I called at least 10 of their clients that they have posted on their website. Out of the ten, 9 of them had their numbers disconnected and the one person I did speak to was a totally different company that knew nothing of Madison Street Capital.

Matt called my company looking for Dane and when I told him he was in a meeting and I would gladly take a message he responded, "Just tell him to give me a call, I'm leaving for lunch." "Okay and what's the best number to reach you at?" "He'll know it." [***]! I decided to *69 the number and google it and wa-lah: LOOK WHAT I FOUND! Haha couldn't help but laugh (:
