I received a call from this number out of Missouri stating that they had 2 charges against me for a payday loan that i was suppose to have taken out in 2012 with a bank account that had been closed over a yr n half before this was taken out. Telling me if i didnt comply with them then they would bring charges against me. Rep that i talked to also told me that they had sent out 13 letters to get in touch with me n they would not send out another letter. She couldn't tell me exactly what payday loan company it went thru n also stated it was with a bank ive never had an account with. She then told me that maybe the papers didnt have all the bank name on there she wasnt sure what bank it went thru. Very irritating. Also gave me a 713-588-4623 to contact them with. So many red flags with these calls...BEWARE.!

This is The exact voice message I have been receiving off and on for months now, verbatim.  They also have my maiden name.  This is so irritating and maddening for these calls to continue.  Got another one today.  Last time I actually called them back and told them to send me a written verification of debt letter as required by law.  Ha funny nothing has shown up in my mailbox yet!  Always different phone numbers but the same recording each time.  These people are scammers and predators.

I don't subscribe to Craig's list so it's not that.  I think I have had this call from about 12 different states.  I don't know how to stop it except to click on answer and then off quickly.  That way it doesn't go to my answering machine.  The only thing I'm on is Facebook so it might come from there.  However, I don't have my phone number on there so it must just be random.

The best thing to do with these people is for everyone to send a fax to that number.  Since it is not a fax and cannot connect the fax will just keep calling them.  Give them a taste of their own medicine.

Hi!  I use craigslist a lot myself and just received one of these scam calls.  So I guess that does not help your theory.  The person that called me have some very detailed information about me.  I am assuming they contract with a company like intellus that sells information on the internet.

So...this has been happening to me since like 2011. After confirming with you all on Google that it is indeed a scam, I also contacted police who said it's also a scam, and I even contacted my county court and gave them the case number and THEY even told me it was a scam. So now after blocking the numbers I sometimes answers just to piss them off. You don't have my correct last name and never ask for my address or correct last name...I've been waiting for them to "serve me" for 2 years lmao.

Ignore and block the calls.  Being in ordinary civil debt is not a crime and you cannot be arrested for it.

This is a common ploy by criminals attempting to extort money from people by scaring you into believing that you will be criminally charged, go to jail, lose your driver’s license, have wages garnished, be sued, and a variety of other variations on this,  all for an alleged or nonexistent debt.
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site:  http://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.
