Just received a call from this number with a recording that said the identical thing...caller's name was Brad. Very heavy accent. Ended with "God bless!" This came in on a business line....we sometimes get automated bill collector calls about our former employees, but this was the first time I've taken the time to listen to a recording like this one...very threatening recording. But pretty obviously a scam. These people are messed up. How dumb do they think we are?

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

    Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
    (202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.

I get calls every Monday and Wednesday from these jokers. They call and ask for a Jeannette Copeland. Last Wednesday "Eddy" called and asked for Jeanette, I told him that it wasn't her number and that I'd appreciate them taking my number off their list. The douche then gets loud at me and says "Hey hey hey, just get lost" then the a--hole hung up on me. I called back and chewed whoever it was out. I told that whoever that was had s#itty phone etiquette and that you don't call people then get pissed because they aren't who you are looking for or they ask to have their number removed, then get snippy and straight up hang up on them.

Someone called me and said he was from the NY State Division of Criminal Justice and that tomorrow morning I was going to be arrested at my place of employment or my residence. Although he spoke with an indian like accent he claimed to be Ron Baxter. When I got off the phone my co-workers expressed that they thought it was a scam. I called the number given to me by the caller Ron Baxter

I received an extremely disturbing call on my cell phone. A man by the name "Ed" with an Indian/South African accent called demanding payment for a pay day loan from a few years ago. He stated that if I did not pay $1,999 he would issue a warrant for my arrest, I would be in jail for 11 months, he would revoke my license, he would suspend my monthly benefits (I am a retired senior citizen). He tried to verify my driver's license number as well as my banking information. I hung up with him in a panic. I was on the verge of tears explaining what had happened to my daughter. 16 minutes later I received another call from "Ed" which my daughter answered. She told him that IT WAS A SCAM. HE said he would have my local police department call me within five minutes to prove that it was not a scam. Five minutes later I received a call that DID show up on my caller id as my local police departments number. I immediately asked the man for his name and badge number and said I had to call him right back. I called the police department and they confirmed there was NO OFFICER by that name on there staff and the badge number I was given was not even close to theirs. A deputy came to my residence, to reassure me that it was in fact a SCAM, the deputy called "Ed" back and he apologized for harassing me.

    ****BEWARE....THIS IS A SCAM****
