Folks, how many times have you been told that Do Not Call does not apply to crooks? Consider the old saying, "When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns". Same thing here. Crooks don't care about DNC lists. The only way to defeat them is to stop answering their calls. If nobody answers, then they'll eventually have to find other ways to steal your money. Meanwhile, get a call blocker, or at the very least use caller ID and if you don't know the caller, don't answer, don't  call back.

I have wondered about this particular issue: getting a call to my number from my number. It has happened a couple of times & I found it scary.

Google "can't give away my timeshare". Some are suggesting donating them to a charity, but charities are accepting them anymore.

You, like most people, don't understand how the Do Not Call list works.

Do Not Call bans companies from using robo-dialer to dial random numbers.

What it does NOT ban is companies selling your number to a 3rd party.

By giving your number to company A (grocery store rewards program, giveaway contests, credit card companies, etc) you are giving them permission to use your number (yes, even if you check the 'do not call me' box).

While that company might not call you, it doesn't prevent them from selling your number to a 3rd party that will call.

Scammers don't care about the DNC. Only law-abiding telemarketers respect it.

Got called today about 6:15 EDT.  Suspected it was a spam call and apparently I am right.  Almost funny since I live in FL and am well aware that timeshares are a terrible investment and you can't get rid of them.

    Your information is WRONG.

The Do Not Call legislation and regulations ban commercial (non-non-profit) from telemarketing to any numbers listed in the Do Not Call registry. (Legitimate surveys and political calls are also exempt).
UNLESS : the business making the call has an existing business-with-consumer relationship with someone at the number they are calling.

So what if the business sells the number and name to other businesses; that does not allow the business-that-bought-the-number to claim they have a business-with-consumer relationship at all, as they only bought a bit of information; it is little more than going through a phone book and calling residential numbers.

The ban on using robo-dialers is a different regulation.

Take a number and stand in line behind "most people". Your misinformation is giving me a headache.

} Do Not Call bans companies from using robo-dialer to dial random numbers.

That's rich. Please do tell where you got that story. That's maybe the TCPA you're thinking of, and it has something more sensible to say about autodialers.

} you are giving them permission to use your number (yes, even if you check the 'do not call me' box).

Really? You can both give and deny consent simultaneously? Maybe you should join a corporate defense law firm to put that doublethink to use. The watery "business relationship" exemption was all but dissolved a few years ago.

} it doesn't prevent them from selling your number to a 3rd party that will call.

Exposure in general of personal data is a separate problem. The key phrase under current law is "prior express consent". That third party buying a lead list cannot inherit consent.

I'll refrain from dropping more than one supporting link, as it is clear you need to start slowly on the easy homework, mainly the true scope of the DNCR.

316-201-9046 called with automated voice about a student loan then hung up as I was trying to reach a live person. I called back for times and it said to call from the number they called which is what I did all four times. I've never had a student loan and I was never able to reach anyone at this number. I am also on the national do not call list.
