Threatened that I have some pending complain for defrauding a banking institute,  said I took out a payday loan 5 years ago and then closed my bank account in order to not pay them back. Yeah sounds
serious - I'd get right on that except the fact that this IS A SCAM!

They can give me no info/written documentation on this aledged payday loan and they dont even have all my info. They asked me for my address and personal info -- well if I have a complaint on me that they going to file charges on me for, then they would already have my personal info and only need to verify it with me. TOTAL B.S. way for them to get your SS number and personal info -- leading up to getting your bank account number or credit card number.

For one I didn't take out a payday loan,
two I've had the same bank account for 15 years and can get records showing no money from a payday loan company way placed into my account, and three - Payday loans via a business store front, online, and or from a company out of state are illegal in my state of Arizona.

This is some sort of scam using scare tactics by saying, they are a collection company that works for an attorney  and unless you pay them such and such amount of money via bank account or credit card they will file criminal fraud charges -- It is just not true.

    These guys are bad news.
These are debt scammers calling.  They are crooks who want to scare you into paying debts you do not owe.  Don't call them back or talk to them, that just gets you more calls.  Some of them call your job and your family in order to put pressure on you.
    Check this link:

-- A bit or two of common sense:
    -  If you were in that kind of trouble, you would not get warning call first.
    - You not arrested for a debt as the very first move
    - There is NO Warrant for Arrest.  No one is coming to your house or workplace.
    - There is NO Debt.

You are being called by crooks.

These scammers keep calling my elderly Mother and telling her they are going to prosecute me if I don't return there call within 24hrs. As they don't have my address or telephone number- REALLY... This all started from a quote for a pay-day loan 4 years ago, with my bank cancelling the $50 membership fee they charged my account. Then they stated they loaned me $$$ that they electronically deposited into my personal account - YA RIGHT!!!  So when i told them that my Bank Lawyers are waiting for my court date, they hang up... The sad thing is my Mother worked for my bank for over 30 years and cant remember the scams these crooks pull...This has been going on for 4 years and it appears it will never go away...   SCAM CITY !!!  I hope that these SCAMMERS get whats coming to them JAIL TIME with No Phone/Internet privileges....

They had a complaint against me. They want me to call the client at 319-208-0254. They will service me at my home or job. They call a few time last year say that I had a payday loan a few years ago and didn't pay it. They couldn't tell the name of the loan place. They said the loan went into my account and they want there money back. They ask me for the name of my bank but I asked if  the company deposit money into my account the should have all this information. Yes they said that they was an attorney office but would not give me the name. So I had someone call back the next day and said that they where my attorney . They told him they could give him information he ask why because he is my attorney and have the information that he need about me but they would not talk to him. They stop calling and just started back calling yesterday.

Same exact thing to me Sandra, I find it very shady that they don't have the name of the original payday loan co. that supposedly sent money to my bank account -- they don't even have the last four numbers of the bank account number they say is mine. Such a scam.

Whenever someone tells you that they are a "lawyer", the first question you should ask is what state(s) they are registered in and their BAR number for that/those state(s).  Then go to that state and check them out.  Now for the rest of what you should know:

Criminals masquerading as debt collectors attempt to extort money from people by scaring you into believing that you will be criminally charged (they use the bad check or hot check claim a lot) and go to jail, lose your driver’s license, have wages garnished without actually being sued or going to court, be sued, and a variety of other variations on this, all for an alleged or nonexistent debt.  One of the tricks they use is to call your family, friends, neighbors and/or places of employment (past or present or both) to create panic and embarrassment so that their intended victim calls them and they can scare that person into paying their extortion money.  They will use the words “Mediator”, “Arbitrator”, or “Law Office” to make you believe that they are something other than a debt collector want-a-be and that they don’t have to follow Federal and State collection laws.  They do have to follow those laws, but they won’t.  They mention that they have received a Fax document, to create the sense of urgency.  They also tell you that if you fail to call them back you are "waiving your right to council", which is pretty much nothing but hogwash.  They also use the “process server” ruse who calls and claims he is going to serve you, but then says you could avoid it by calling another number where they will ask for money to “make it go away” (this is actually the same place, they work in teams, one pretending to be the server, and the other usually pretends to be a lawyer).  Process servers do not ever call ahead so that you can dodge them.  Process servers get paid to serve papers, nothing else.

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

Read up on your rights here and also make a complaint at this government site:  http://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

Been receiving calls from this number for awhile now. Decided to return the call today, provided them with my case number. Apparently I took out some sort of payday loan in 2011 and then closed my bank account before they could receive their payment. Funny thing is in 2011 I did not have a bank account and I was going thru bankruptcy.  Happily told them to send me the court summons and I would show up!! Yeah right!  SCAM!!!

It is a scam  - if you had a LEGAL complaint filed against you, you would get written legal documentation with a case number, court info, complaintant info - not a phone call 'claiming' you have a complaint against you. It's an intimidation tactic used by debt collectors to scare you into paying over the phone/internet.

That's the same thing I told them...I haven't had a bank account in probably 7 or 8 year..And in the state of Mississippi it's against the law to get a 700 dollar payday loan...I called a payday loan company and ask what's the max payday loan you get in Mississippi and they said 400..
