I'm getting calls from the same number and name. Who the heck is Jim Carr? No, I don't answer calls from automated dialers or people I don't know.

I get the name John Black which is no doubt a variation of the Julian Blake.  It's a collection agency in OKC.  I have been told it's medical collections, but also have info that it's a debt buying agency.  These people buy lists of charged off debts that legitimate companies have written off and then try to collect on them.  They threaten lawsuits, arrests, etc. in the hope that people don't realize they have no legal authority to do anything since the debt no longer, legally exists.  The best thing to do is let them know that you know who they are and you will be lodging a complaint with the state attorney general.  Most state's Attorney's General will act when people start complaining loud enough about these guys.

"Bob Hart" left a voicemail that "it is very, very important that you call me back today at 405.290.2059. Very important". Apparenlty "Mr. Hart" believes I did not comprehend his first "very".  Obviously not an English major.

On one hand, I pity anyone who is reduced to this kind of work. On the other---not my problem.

He did not identify the name of his company, the number didn't show up. Bah.

Plese use this information to protect yourself from these charlatans.

They are also Federally required to tell you they are attempting to collect a debt. If you tell them they cannot call you at work, then by federal law they cannot.

Ask for the caller's actual legal name.

And if you really want to mess with them, call their actual phone number 405.943.9608

I keep getting toting calls from this number over and over. They never speak. It just hangs up when I answer. I'm getting real tired of it. Any suggestions?

this same man,Bill Walker calls from a 214 & 469 #'s which are Dallas area codes says he is with a law firm

This is medical collections in OKC.  I sent them a validation of debt letter (certified mail so I know they got it) which they never PROPERLY validated on and yet they continue to call.  The VOD letter forbids them from calling us.  Will move forward with ITS (intent to sue) for violating the fair debt collection act.

Collections dont fall under the do not call lists. Collections are seperate from that, you have to tell them not to call again.

I called the number back and they were able to tell me what it was regarding by them reading the number I called them from on caller ID.  It was about an old dr. bill that I indeed need to pay. So I would not ignore this

Pay your medical bills.  If you can't pay in full, set up AND STICK TO a payment plan.  If you do this, you won't have to worry about being harrassed by bill collectors.

Harrassment is against the law.   Then again, so is not paying for services received.

Some medical offices/hospitals will NOT take payment plans. Did you read what I just typed? Will not. I have huge medical bills and tried to do what you just said. I was able to do it with most but 2 of them would not do it. I'm still alive, grateful that my life was saved, and that's all I care about. I'm still sick, and will be. All I did was just come online too look up why this phone number keeps calling me, and leaves a message without saying who they are. I don't answer my phone when I don't know who someone is, and I don't call people back who do not say who they are. Guess I'm changing my number.

They call but never say anything so i called back. This number is calling and they claim they are a collection agency, but the ONLY way they can look up YOUR account is with your full name and Social Security number !  NEVER GIVE THIS INFORMATION OUT.

IF, they do have an account for you DEMAND, that they remove your number from their calling base and correspond with you via the USPS .

This is one of my favorite credit laws, as it relieves a huge amount of anxiety from distressed borrowers. The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act defends you against third-party collection abuses. Specifically, collectors are prohibited from:

Calling multiple times a day, before 8 a.m. or after 9 p.m. or at work if you tell them the calls are jeopardizing your job.
Discussing your debt with someone other than your spouse without your permission.
Using profanity and making false threats. If they say they are going to sue you, then they have to take that action.
Misrepresenting him/herself or the purpose of the call.
