Guy said he was from the sj mercury news. Talked like the movie phone guy. Started on a spiel about some special deal. During a pause I said I didn't live in sj anymore, and he hung up before I was done with the sentence. Classy, sj merc.

Call came in at 8:20pm. I pushed answer and then off. I would not go back to mercury news again, thank you for telling me who I hung up on.

I called back, since I was just driving through Gilroy and thought it odd. He spoke really fast, calling me by my full name and asking me to confirm it...then he babbled something about extending and Oakland Tribune subscription. I told him I was moving.

Oddly, later that night I got a msg regarding a really old debt. I think it may be looking for info for collection agencies. just a thought.

also, they have called 4 times since.

Just received a call from this guy.  Has anyone contacted the Merc to see if this guy really does work for them?

Was called twice but person did not leave a message. If it s urgent or important, I assume people would leave a message. I ignore such calls from unknown origin with no explanatory message.

This number calls me all the time and never leaves a message. Just let it be if you see this n number or block them.

Received another call from this number today. It's a newspaper solicitation. They phoned me last week and I declined
the subscription. I guess they are persistent since they called again this morning. Oh well.

Been receiving calls from this number for a few weeks now - no one ever leaves a message.
I am a Merc News subscriber, so one would think if that is what it is about, a message would be left on voice mail...

I do not recognize the number, so I have deleted it.

We also just a call from this number on our house phone. I didn't pick it up when I didn't recognize the number.  No message was left. We too subscribe to the Mercury.

Constantly getting calls from this number, SJ mercury asking if i want to renew my subscription every few days at all times of the day. No matter how much i tell them to stop calling and that I'm not interested they keep calling. Basically predatory levels of calling: harassing people until they renew

Consider getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $40.00 or so. If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number. For tracfone & straight talk:

For text messages: forwarding any text message spam you get to the short code  “7726,” which spells “spam” on most phones, to alert your network operator to the abuse. ATT won't accept 7726 But they will accept BLOCK and return a message that the web site is blocked. forward the texts to 7726 or BLOCK, depending on your phone carrier.
