Same situation happened to me. This "Kathy White" is truly unbelievable. Luckily, I didnt disclose my address or home phone # on the Paypal invoice. Thank goodness I am careful or scammers like this would prevail. Horrible! So far, I received nothing but scam requests on craigslist. My time there is limited.

After posting an ad on Craigslist and Alaska's List to sell our boat and trailer in Anchorage, Alaska, we received these emails:

    Interested Buyer:

I am interested in buying your (1966 21' Cutlass Fiberglass Cabin Cruiser)
listed on http://alaskaslist.com and would like to receive additional
information about it, such as present condition, last asking price and pics
if available, i will like to pay using PayPal.

    Seller:

Hello, thank you for your interest.  I am forwarding photos of boat and
trailer.  The present condition is that it does not run, but the hull is in
excellent shape.  The Shore Lander boat trailer is included in the $2500
price.  Please feel free to call __________  at 907 _________ and he can tell
    you about the engine, etc.

I also have a PayPal account.

    Interested Buyer:

Good to hear back from you, i am located in WA. i am buying this boat and trailer for my dad as a surprise gift, i am okay with the price,  i am a marine engineer at this moment i am presently working offshore, sometimes access to regular emails and phone calls are very poor in offshore due to inefficiency of phone and internet connections, more so we are often constrain from accessing the internet or making phone calls, i insisted on PayPal because i don't have access to my bank account online and i don't have internet banking too, but i can pay from my PayPal account as i have my bank a/c attached to it, you don't need to bother yourself about the shipment because i have a pick-up agent that will come for the pick-up they will also determine and secure the shipment, get back to me with your PayPal email address so that i can make the payment, i will also need you to provide me with the following information in order to facilitate the payment.

    1.Your Full name.
    2.Your PayPal Email Address.
    3.Your phone number.

    Kind Regards.

Although I suspected this could be a scam (why would anyone in WA need to buy an ship a boat from Alaska---DUH!), I wasn't sure and decided to Google "Scams using PayPal".  Thanks to you and all the other write-ins I am now very sure this inquiry is not on the up and up.  Knowledge is power!  Yes, I will return an email to suspected scammer saying that he must come in person to view the boat and bring CASH or CASHIER'S check drawn on local bank.  In addition to the old adage: "BUYER BEWARE," let us also remember: "SELLER BEWARE!"

I just got a reply for a car I put up for sale on Craigslist.  Same type of response, but different name and email.  This guy is going by the name Jim Kelvinz using email address fortmel2@gmail.com.  He asked if it was still available and when I replied yes, he emailed me back saying this...

    "Hi,
You should consider it sold .Actually ,I am buying it for someone and payment would be through PayPal.  I am working in a ship and presently, i am out to sea.So it is a pick up agent that would be coming  for the pick  up.So i would like you to forward your Paypal email add. and name with more pictures.  I would be expecting your prompt reply, with the name and the email address on  your PayPal account so that i could make the payment asap and  i will appreciate if you could send more pics  as i would not be seeing it in person  and   pick up should be at a designated place or  your residence. And, lastly , i am offering  additional $ 100 to your final price for you to keep it off from other  offers."

I mean REALLY???  He's out to sea...  It's def a scam.  Not sure what they are actually trying to do.  Maybe the fake email receipt and link to phishing site, like others suggested...

My request came from Kristen Arack (kristenarack@gmail.com).

My question is: Does anyone know if there is any threat by them having my email address, from where I replied to their "interest" in my Craigslist post? I will NOT be forwarding the paypal request...

i just recently put my car up for sale on craigslist and got a text the same night asking if my vehicle was still available and was in good condition. i told the person yes it was available and if he would like to come take a look to let me know. well i did not post any pictures of the vehicle on my ad and this person told me that if i could assure them that everything was good with the vehicle he would like to purchase. he told me due to his nature of work he would not be available for pick up or to even come look at the vehicle but he would make his payment through pay pal and then a shippin agent would come and get the vehicle as soon as my account was credited. i told this person that i do not have a pay pal account nor do i feel comfortable giving out any presonal info via electronically. he then told me sorry to hear that i dont have a pay pal account but it is very easy safe and reliable ust go to paypal register then send him the amail used for registration with paypal so that he could pay in. things started sounding very fishy at this point, so i told this "buyer" that i needed to speak with him over the phone and discuss details and get more info. he then told me that he was a marine engineer who was out at sea at the moment and was using a pager to text me. i tried calling the number to reach this so called buyer and the number was an internet phone set up through google. so i decided to do some diggin on craigslist scams, low and behold i came across this nice little informative thread. TO ANYONE TRYING TO SELL HIGH DOLLAR ITEMS ON CRAIGSLIST IF SOMEONE CONTACTS YOU AND ASKS TO PAY WITH PAYPAL AND THEY WILL BE HAVING A SHIPPING AGENT COME AND GET THE ITEM....ITS A [***] SCAM. SLIP AWAYYY!!!!

I got a similar message and wasn't sure, but I never do a deal unless I have cash in hand or in my account. A Michelle Cearcy in NY sent me a text late last night and was very rushy, but also polite and sometimes thought it was a teenager. But he/she wanted to buy my wine cooler for $1200 was my asking price, but to receive the payment I had to send the shipping money($450) to Western Union(him/her). Idid some research after being polite and asked for the necessary info.....The Money Transfer Control Number:
    The Sender's Name:
The Sender's Address:.....as stated in the emails, all he/she has is my email. after I sent that it has been a few hours and have heard nothing back, he wanted to send the money to me today and get it picked up by an agent of his. One thing odd was he/she ignored my response to take care of the shipping for them as I assumed we were in the same state at the beginning of the transaction. And other thing was it didn't add up, be precise, it came out to $1700.00 USD when it should have been $1650.00 USD. Frommy add he/she does know my city and state though. 3 emails total, one being junk, isn't that odd for paypal or any business?

Thanks a lot for this post. I was going to commit a big mistake but I have found your posts, the same story, i will sent his mails, maybe it will be useful for somebody:

Thanks for the reply, i am a sailor, i am at sea right now so l wont
be able to check the item but l need for details about the item and
also l will be more happy if you can send me some pictures of it
because am buying this for my dad as a surprise gift so am willing to
offer you the amount you required. I can only pay through PayPal at
the moment as i don't have access to my bank account online(i don't
have internet banking with it), but i have it attached to my PayPal
account, and this is why i insisted on using PayPal to pay,all i will
need is your PayPal email address to make the payments, and if you
don't have a PayPal account yet, you can set one up at www.paypal.com
it cant take you less than 3mins to do that, i will be expecting your
PayPal email so l can pay. I have a pick up agent that will come for
the pick up after payments has been sorted. l will be waiting for your
    reply asap

    Regards..

I was just about to make the payment when i had a little problem with my pick-up agent, as i explained to you earlier that  i am currently out to sea, i tried to book a pick-up with my pick up agent, but they asked me to pay first before they can make the booking, they only accept money Gram for their payment's and i tried to send the money online but i could not, I'll like to know if i can be able to entrust the pick up agent fee in your possession so that i will include their fee in the payment that i am going to make, my pick up agent charged is $850 plus Insurance and some other document for the pick-up, so after you have received the payment you will help me send the $850 to my pick up agent through money Gram transfer, this i would have done myself and not bother you but for the fact that i am currently on sea, i just wanted to seek your consent before going ahead with the payment, i will appreciate it if you mail me back, and i will made the payments shortly......awaiting your response soonest.

PS:the shipping company's Head quarters is in USA and any pick up fees to be paid is sent to their head quarters by the payee, so the money for pick up will be sent to their head quarters in USA through Money Gram(this can be done from any post office) or you can do it online at www.moneygram.com

    Thanks,

Received a very similar email regarding a car.  She used the name Janet West.  Same verbage though about being out of town, sending and agent, that her pay pal account was attached to her bank account.  We never go close enough to getting into account numbers, etc.  Thank you everyone for your input as I checked here first.  I still wouldn't have sent an information but it's good to know you are all out there looking after each other.
