First, pre-recorded message falsely states it is from Duquesne Light and that you can save money by picking a different electricity generator other than Duquesne Light; instructs you to press a number to speak with an operator.
Then, spoke with the operator and stated that my phone is on the "do not call" registry.  Operator apologized and promised to not call again.  The end.
Ever since Pennsylvania deregulated the electric utility's monopoly on electricity generation, I've gotten two phone calls and a door-to-door visit with sales pitches that range from misleading to patently fraudlent.  These predatory entreprenuers make Socialism look attractive; they are a disease running amok in our free nation.  We need to wage a war on FRAUD with mandatory prison sentences, or people will become so fed up with this squalor the country will react out of desperation and go full communist.

Those people calling to "Change your Electric Supplier" are in fact allowed to call you - even if you are on the Do Not Call registry.   This was confirmed by a call I made to the State's Consumer Advocate.   So the only way to get these guys to stop calling is to tell them you ALREADY signed to switch your supplier and now are under contract.

Furthermore, if a caller says they are "an agency" that represents many suppliers and they need your info to choose the best one for you - DO NOT TELL THEM YOUR INFO.  Especially your account number!
They really represent "suppliers" that are NOT on the PAPOWERSWITCH list and usually are suppliers that got themselves banned from soliciting customers in their OWN state!  -- BEWARE!

Again, just be nice and go for the salesman and politly thank them for calling and say you already switched and are under contract so please take your number off their list.
If you do that nicely, they will indeed take your number off their lists because they need to get sales, and if you're under contract you can't switch.

    1.)  Be nice!
2.)  Never give your Utility account number!   (You can confirm your phone number.)
3.)  Tell them you have already switched and are in a contract.
4.)  Remind them to take your number off their list since you can't switch anymore.
5.)  Thank them nicely for calling and hang up.

called on 6/5 AND 6/7.  caller ID only shows their number.  you can see from posts above who it is.  we appear to have come to some agreement: i don't answer, they don't leave message.  that's the relationship.

Likewise, I received a telephone call from this number at noon on 8 July, 2012. I answered and, like other upstanding citizens here, endured the pre-recorded slop about how I am eligible for a Duquesne Light discount and some other slipshod drivel. Not wanting to be buggered, I pressed "off" on my telephone device to "hang up" on the buffoon, but now I realize I should have spoken to an official and had my number henceforth removed from their pestering scrolls! Next time, indeed, I shall, by the gods of hellfire, I shall, I swear! [leather-gloved fist slamming on desk]

I got the same message about Duquesne Light... blah, blah...
So I wanted to talk with someone to get my name and number off the list.
When I asked the girl how she got my number, the [***] hung up!
So I called back. There was a recording that the number had been disconnected.
    Loser!!!!!!!

You don't have to tell them anything but, "Don't call here again" and then hang up.

If you ask them "How did you get my number?", they hang up on you.  Any legitimate business will answer that question.  It's the ones that hang up that make me think BUYER BEWARE.

Every scammer I've ever met curses and hangs up and behaves badly when you pin them down.

Any time you get a call and there is dead air that means a computer is logging the exact time a human answered. The same thing will happen a 2nd time. That way the caller knows that at say 2:00 PM on a weekday a human answers. Then and only then will they have one of their scammers available to talk when you pick up a 3rd time. In other words, these [***] don't want to bother paying someone to sit and make phone calls, so they simply have their robo-dialer call and log the time that a human answers.
As for "Pennsylvania" on the caller ID, I believe these are all from the Electric Choice program, so if you are happy with your choice of electric supplier, ignore it.
And CALL CONGRESS! Every time you get a robodialer or scammer, call your state and federal congressman and pester them, they are the ones that make the laws that allow these scammers AND POLITIICIANS to invade your privacy.

When I picked up there was a recording.  So I politely waited and then informed the caller (electric supplier company rep) that I am on the Do Not Call list and asked them not to call again.  The thing is, I use that land line for emergencies only so no one who we actually know has the number.  Any time it rings, I know it's a telemarketer or scammer so I generally just ignore the phone but I'm getting tired of them calling during my son's nap and waking him up.
