- Tom| 4 repliesI got a call from them also, and they tell me they are Legal Restitution Agency, and they are based in San Fran., CA...They are trying to say I owe money to an internet loan dept. If you want to pay, you can pay to do a reverse look up and get their address and everything.
- jiamie replies to Tom| 3 repliesSo how did you handle this they told me to contact a lawyer or call immediately
- Gloria replies to jiamie| 2 repliesExactly what did they say to you? Was it anyting like what they said to me?
- Lynn replies to GloriaOMG!!! I got the same type call from "Legal Restituting Division" on 3/17/09 ---- payday loans are illegal in my state, Georgia, I never got this loan, they mentioned 3 felony charges, going to the court house, etc. I talked to a local Clarke county police officer - this seems to be a scam, I filed a complaint with the FTC ---- PLEASE you guys file a complaint!! I also filed a complaint in my state.
What a scam ---- scary part --- they even knew 2 of my relatives names. - june0695 replies to GloriaThey've left me several messages saying that they have a time sensitive matter and that i need to contact them immediately because they have -then they say something I can't understand- or contact my lawyer for my best self interest. I've been doing research on the internet to see what they can do and I haven't found anything specific. most of it says that most debt collectors will not cile civil suites. I'm not sure yet I'm going to keep looking. Keep me updated on what anyone finds.
- jenick29We need to get information on this company! They did they same thing to me! And it really was scary how much information they had on me! They said they were the Legal Restitution Division and that they couldn't send me any thing in writing. That if I wanted the info in writing they would have to file the affadavit with the court. That I had the right to an attorney... blah, blah. They were really trying to scary me. He wanted me to fax a statement with all my personal information, including my debt card - stating that I would pay it back. When I told the guy, who's english i could barely understand that I wanted to do some research and that this felt like a scam.. he wanted to end the call quickly. Started threatening me with a lawsuit, etc. When I asked for his name he hung up.
How do we file a complaint about this? To where?- Caller: Legal Restitution Division
- LAH| 1 replyI got the exact same call from the same company from a different number in California. It was really scary. They knew 2 of my friends names and phones numbers and said they would go after them for the money. They wanted me to write a detailed statement apologizing for not paying my debt. One of the sentences read "I just kept this out of my mind." Which makes no sense in English. Their were 2 people involved a man and a woman both with foreign accents. They wanted my debit card number and CVV number, and expiration date on a fax today! The number was 619-822-1052.

- rl replies to LAHHey, I had the same call from the same number and they had my banking information. Man I was so upset but I knew that it was not anyhting I did but, still it is my personal information. Your story is exactly like mine. So, what are we supposed to do.
- DavidI received the same call, only from San Diego, CA (the caller ID) - 619-342-0288. I went to the following link: https://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-619-342-0288 and downloaded information similar to this link. They claimed they were serving an affidavit - which in itself is strange, since affidavits are not served, but rather claims are served. I demanded information on their company - they gave nothing. I was connected to a "supervisor" (same accent as the original caller) - again, no information revealed. I told them I was placing them on the federal due not call list and they should cease calling my number or be subject to a federal fine. I then threatened to bring suit on them for fraud and they hung up!!
- KP2116| 1 replySame experience! I have been freaking out for the past 2 days. They said they were in California. HEAVY Indian accents. I could not understand what was being said, even through 3 different representatives. When I told them I was going to fight it, as I had no records of this so called "defaulted internet loan", they also hung up. Actually, the line just went dead. The number was (858)384-9663. What should I do next?

- Here's what to do replies to KP2116report this to the FTC at www.ftc.gov, also to your state's attorney General. Also notify the 3 credit bureaus, they'll put a fraud alert on your credit report. By the way, the Bettter business bureau issued an alert about phony debt collectors. This is definitely a scam; you cannot be arrested for an unpaid payday loan,it would go to collections and they'd have notified you immediately if this debt were legit; they cannot refuse to send you anything in writing, which they are required by law to do within 5 days of a call.
I think they hacked a payday loan website or something and that's how they got people's info.
