- JimThis is a valid number from Craigslist. It is for new postings that you have posted.
- Caller: 4156105110
- Call type: Event reminder
- Mike replies to MRNIt is a craigslist validation number. They called me with a validation code a few seconds after I posted an ad there.
- SophieThis is legit. If you post to Craigslist and need to verify, you give your number and you'll get a call or text. If someone mistypes their number, you might get a call or text by mistake, but it's not a scam or anything.
- VanAnnoying call this morning at 05:26 AM. Caller I.D. displayed this message ( CAN'T RETURN CALL 2 T # )
- Call type: Prank
- DKThe number called couple times at 2am asking for a verification code...impossible to call back, the call doesn't go through
- Irish 99Multiple call. No response when I call back. I think my number has been hacked. I now get many call from all over the us...how can this be stopped..
- KS replies to MRNIt's Craigslist phone verification number. When you place something for sale and you want to use your phone #, they verify it. My CID said San Francisco, CA.
- Scambuster"Moi" is right. This 415 number is Craigslist. This number is legitimate. HOWEVER, if you get a message from ANOTHER number asking for the verification code, do not answer it. I got a call at random (I did NOT submit my number for verification!) and then a few minutes later I got a text from 707-376-9279 asking for the code, in broken English. As "Moi" described, this is a scam. This is a social engineering attempt to bypass the Craigslist anti-spam system. They entered your number into the system without permission, and now they need your number.
For you amusement, the message I got said:
"Hey, There How Are You?
I am Linda From Craigslist I Already send the secret code
if you real check your phone messages
give me the code I will call you"
(All capitalization, spelling, and grammatical errors intact)
If you look up 707-376-9279, you'll find that it's a throwaway VOIP number.- Caller: A scammer
- Brian Baker .This is a scam being run by joseph thomson and michelle schwab who are stealing. Peoples identity and committing crimes in their names . Identity theft victim
- Caller: Recording copied network and cloned phone info
- Ed replies to Anthony SerratoGot the same call twice too, I answered but didn't say a word, wasn't sure if it's a scam where if answer and say "yes" or hello, I've heard that there is something about never answering with anything other than a hello?
- Makes no sense replies to I_do_ITsecurityIf you do IT security your "explanation" makes no sense. A phone number and a domain are two different things. The phone number listed is to a legitimate service that craigslist uses to weed out thieves and other bad actors, it merely seeks to confirm whether a person using a specific phone number tied to a specific account is trying to post something. If not then the answer would be no. I don't see how you are tying it to the domains you list, which are no longer even registered domains. If the purported ad you mentioned used the domains then someone must have authenticated when the number called asking for verification.
If you didn't place the ad, didn't have anyone place it for you AND you do IT security, why would you verify the ad when the system called? It would have been a simple matter of denying the verification and no ad would have posted under your account.
Long story short, be VERY suspicious of any contact from the internet or anywhere else asking you to confirm anything. The answer should always be no unless and until you are sure what you are confirming. Double the suspicion when craigslist is involved. - Hierrosame story as above here. can someone, perhaps, Craigslist can do something? do they know?
