- P.O'd| 1 replyI am sick and tired of getting these calls all day long.
I have personally spoken to a girl there and she refused to give me any information on why they were calling or why I have not received any documentation from them stating that I have an account with them. I was told to figure it out for myself then call them back with my answer (lol really). She also advised me that my file is being escalated because I did not know why they were calling me (are they crazy). BBB please do something with this poor excuse of a agency.
Today I have counted 15 calls from 7 am till 2:30 pm. They also use private caller on your display FYI, 416-482-7692- Caller: CVB

- FacilitatorJust tell them they are in a nice silver building on the corner of Sheppard and Kenneth.
Also say that you'll meet them in the parking lot when their shift ends. Only that the
conversations will begin when you arrive at their home.
See how they like that when someone goes and talk to them at their homes
when they are trying having dinner with their family. Can you see them complaining
about harassment now?- Call type: Debt collector

- IrritatedI received a missed call at just after 8am from this number. On my phone, I have the ability to block the number, so it doesn't even pop up on my Missed Calls list. However, when I'm in my car (I have bluetooth, so it connects to my phone), if I go to my " Missed Calls" list, it will still show the names/numbers of calls I've missed, regardless of they're internally blocked on my phone itself.
Apparently they've called again already, as indicated on that list.
I don't answer calls from numbers I don't recognize, so I don't intend to answer or call back. However, I had previously been sent a letter stating that I owed money on a Canadian Tire MC, to which I had told themit was not my debt, and to stop calling. That original company (CRS) did not call again, until I recently received a voicemail stating they had "called several times trying to get ahold of me" and that I needed to call them back to discuss "the changes in my account". I did not call back as I had previously explained to them that it is not my debt (FYI, the debt they were claiming had been inactive since 2007, so it would have been long past the statute of limitations anyway). That was about two weeks ago.
Now this phone number has called twice so far today, and judging by the posts on here, they appear to be relentless, so I expect they will call again. So, I can only assume that the original company (CRS) has likely sold the debt to this new company (CBV), and that's why their calling....
I have never dealt with Bell, so despite the comments previously mentioned, I don't think this company is calling me based on a Bell account.
Be reminded that these companies call on behalf of several different outstanding debts. They are not strictly collecting based on one company, they collect on whatever old debts they've bought, from several different companies. So, if they're trying to recover an old debt, it doesn't necessarily mean it's just from Bell.
They will often use scare tactics and threats, trying to dupe people into paying.
Here's what you need to know when dealing with a debt collection agency:
1) Just because the debt is old, doesn't mean they can't still try to get the money out of you. they are bound legally by a Statute of Limitations, which is different in each Province. In Ontario, the SOL is 2 years. That means that after 2 years of delinquency (failure to pay), they can no longer take legal action (ie sue you). BUT, again, that doesn't mean they can't call or attempt to get you to pay. What it DOES mean is that they can't take you to court.
2) They cannont threaten, harrass, intimidate, etc. This type of behaviour is illegal. This includes threatening legal action if you fail to pay if the SOL has passed.
3) They can only call between 7am-9pm Monday to Saturday, and between 1pm-5pm on Sundays (again, in Ontario
4) They can only call 3 times in a 7 day period, if contact is made. Contact includes voicemail, or speaking to you (or, in home phone cases, with an actual person ie a husband/wife, etc). To get around this rule, they purposely do not leave messages, as they can then call numerous times because "contact" has not been made.
5) They are required to mail you a letter prior to making a telephone call. This letter does not have to be registered, which is why they will often skip the letter entirely (they know if it ever went to court it would be a he-said-she-said situation and will not have to prove the letter was received by you).
What to do if your debt is beyond the statue:
1) When you answer, do NOT assume or acknowledge that the debt is yours. Tell them that you dispute the debt, and request that they stop calling you (this will likely not get rid of them though). Ask the person on the phone what ccollection agency they are calling from, their name, and their collection ID number. They are required by law to have a collection number in order to practice collections, and must have it readily available at all times.
2) Send them a registered letter stating that you dispute the validity of the debt and that the debt is not yours and to stop telephoning you.
3) If they continue to call, contact the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and tell them about how the agency is being unlawful.
4) Be sure to record all calls, times and any information you can, and keep all records together.
5) Or, you can ignore them entirely and block their number. But, be prepared for calls from other numbers (these agencies often call from several numbers) and/or to hear from a new company, since they will likely eventually give up and just resell your debt to another company.
I hope this is helpful to anyone struggling with collection calls.I stupidly dealt with one years ago regarding a bill they stated I owed from 7 years prior, when I was a student. I thought I had paid off the remaining balance at the time, and hadn't heard anything until years later. Because I couldn't remember for sure, I gave in and paid figuring I must have overlooked it when settling all my finances after school (I was financially strapped and had to settle a bunch of accounts, despite the fact that I was positive I'd taken care of everything. I've been trying to rebuild my credit and get into better standing since, and have been successful).
Good luck folks. These people are often very nasty, and make money based on recovering old debts that they bought for pennies on the dollar. They'll do anything and everything to make you pay.- Caller: CVB
