Keep getting calls and no message. Just got this cellphone and number four days ago. Am told it's from a dept collector. How do you stop this?

I have no debt. Could they be calling to scam for a debt that does not exist?

I received three calls so far, 11/11, 11/14 & 11/15, and talked to them one time, today and they wanted my home address.  They would not tell me what CAI was or who they are and they were very rude/unprofessional.  The woman claimed to be:

Got several call from 419-782-6838. I would like the address to send do not call letter. I am on the do not call list.

I have been paying on this bill every month for 3 yrs and they still call me, it's an automated call asking me to stay on the line and someone will be with me, however no one does.

same thing here..we have no medical debt here so they can take a stab at another household with the same name. phone companies need to stop the sharing of info (phone is listed under dad and he died years ago). we're on all the DNC lists too.

CAI collects medical bills.  I answered the call and have set up payment arrangements for a hospital bill that I realized I hadn't paid, though I did call the hospital and tried to set up payment arrangements with them first.  But, at least I found out that it was a REAL debt.  They seem legit and are very helpful with getting a payment arrangement that is affordable for you.

credit adjustments   bill collection for people who used to have this number i repeatedly tell them they dont have this phone and they say they will remove and they keep calling back...

i got a call from this number and I was asked if i was looking for a good time..... I have no legs and they keep calling and harassing me.  I said I dont have a leg to stand on....leave me alone.

they filled up my voice mail in a week.  Now they cant call me and harass me at 11pm

You are INCORRECT...as a former Collection Specialist for a company called FCA I can tell you that if a debt collection agency purchases the debt you owe you ARE now obligated to pay that agency.  However, this company violates the Federal "Fair Credit Reporting Act" by refusing to identify the name of the company when asked.

The DO NOT CALL list only applies to companies who do not have legitimate business with you.  If you owe a debt, and if this is a debt collection agency, they have the legal right to call in an attempt to collect said debt.  They do, however, have federal guidelines they must follow which this company seems to violate.

As a former Verizon employee I can tell you that if your phone is under your Dad's name and he has passed away (sorry to hear of your loss) years ago this amounts to telephone fraud.  You need to get your own account before you are found out and possibly even prosecuted/

The number still shows as the Grennay residence but this is obviously incorrect.  It is for a collection agency in Defiance, Ohio by the name  of CREDIT ADJUSTMENTS, INC. (hence CAI).  This company does violate the Federal "Fair Credit Reporting Act" because they REFUSE to reveal the name of the company when you ask them.

Mr. Bill...They do violate the FAIR CREDIT REPORTING ACT however which is an automatic $10,000 fine against the company and the individual collection specialist if they are found guilty of being in violation.  I am a former Collection Specialist for a company called FCA and I was researching this # for her since she has NO IDEA who it is (on her Caller ID the ONLY thing that shows is the number).  When asked for the name of the company they REFUSE to provide who the information even when she identified herself as the person they asked to speak with...I know this to be a fact because we had them on speaker phone.

Sorry to tell you but as long as you owe the debt and they are the agency assigned to collect it (or even purchased the debt) they have the legal right to call you EVEN if you tell them to stop.

I am not defending this company because they do violate the federal FAIR CREDIT REPORTING ACT, however, you are incorrect on nearly everything you said.  For example, being listed on your credit report is NOT the same as being in collections....if this company is calling you in an attempt to collect a debt, well, NOW you are "in collections", and yes, they too can report failure to pay a debt and further damage your credit score, well, actually, only you can damage your credit score.  Also, for those who want to know what their credit score is for free and gain some tools to help your credit, go to www.creditkarma.com - unlike "Free Credit Score.Com, this one actually IS free!
