Got a call from a lady with a heavy Indian accent about an application we had supposedly given to Citibank on November 16th.  We didn't do it.  I asked for the address, and she told me she couldn't give it to me so I gave her just the house number.  She said it was the same, not to worry that she would mark it as fraud and send the papers to us and then she asked for the address and I gave it to her - not realizing it was a scam.  The caller id showed the word CITI , so I thought it was legitimate until I looked the number up to see whether it was a Citibank number and read the warnings.  We just froze our credit at the credit bureaus.

Legitimate Citi Bank fraud alert number.  Scammers spoof numbers, obviously, but this one can be legitimate.  Didn't ask for any personal info just confirming recent charges that triggered them.

They don't have "scam" as a type of call selections so I chose prank below.  Left Voice mail claiming to be Citi Bank Fraud department Fraud Early warning for me by name.  Asked me to call the number on the back of my card OR an 800 number the female called provided.  Also provided a reference number.  While she had my name with my number, I do not have a Citi bank card to give me the number and the Jamaican accent and 402 area code is consistent with other scam attempts.  They were hoping I would call the 800 number but an internet check of their number with the word scam should what I suspected.  Never use the number provided by the caller.  Look up the number AND be sure the number is from the correct website not another sham website.

NOT A SCAM !! It was a return call to my landline directly from the person at CitiCards who has been helping me with a fraud case in which I had called them upon noticing 3 unauthorized charges on my card.  They had immediately de-activated the card and FedExed a replacement, which I received the very next morning.  The security rep was simply following up to make sure I received it, and to let me know that the 3 charges had been nullified. Not having recognized the incoming number and assuming it was a scam call, I waited to see if a message might be left, but the caller simply hung up.  Within about 10 seconds my cell phone rang with the same incoming number (just as I was about to block it on the landline) and it turned out to be CitiCards rep, whose voice I recognized upon answering the call this time.  Glad I did.  Conclusion:  There are times when a caller has spoofed a legitimate number, and other instances in which the incoming call may be from someone who's on our side.  Seems life often goes in accordance with the outcome of a coin-toss!  To reactively block or not to block -- therein lies the question!  I almost always look up the suspected number on 800Notes, before committing.  Hope this helps!

Caller left a message on our answering machine... Had applied for a Citi MasterCard two days ago... didn't trust the (semi-garbled)  number they wanted me to call back. Attempted to log into my new account on the web, but couldn't since they wanted the security digits from the back of that card and the physical card won't arrive for another week or so - but did see the last 4 digits of the new card. Then found a number for Citi and called it - was prompted for the last 4 digits of the card (which I'd just found), and the automated screener had me provide the answer to my security question. Then got a real human. Bottom line is this was a legit call - she asked me for the 4 digit case number (in the message on the answering machine). Then just verified a few benign details, such as: how I'd applied (2 days ago via the web); who else was added to the account (my spouse) and home address. They were just making sure the application was legit. All seems well - my new credit card wasn't stolen before it arrived in the mail...

This is a fake Citi representative.  They make you believe someone opened a credit application under your name.  Even more believable if you are a Citi customer.  I have no CC's or credit lines with Citi or any affiliates.  Called the real Citibank Customer Service number which is 888-248-4226.  Upon calling this number, there was no activity under my name or SSN within Citi.  This is a total SSN phishing scam.  DO NOT GIVE THESE PEOPLE ANY INFO.

Received a call from this number this morning (4/2/17) and they left a message saying it was from Credit Card Fraud department - no company name - and I should call the number on the back of my card or call this number or 800-825-0393 with my account information.  Yet another scam.

Rec call stating home depot application, call 8662720334, left ref # and application #.   i called guy says it was online app done yesterday. he asks for ref #, I gave it, he says "that's a security code" - WHAT?  now I know it's a scam.  I told him "have no idea what you are talking about but it's got nothing to do with me"  I told him I would remember if I completed an application on line yesterday!  he says "oh my, of course you would", I then told him I have fraud alert on credit so no worries deny application.  he says "it will take me 2-3 minutes to look into it and then ill get some information from you"  i told him "no, wasn't me, don't need home depot, deny it now if it is real cuz you guys don't sound legit with the handling of this and i'm not giving you anything and will alert home depot directly about fraud"

An Asian-sounding female phoned us early Palm Sunday morning 2017 from a noisy call center about a charge card no one here applied for and said to call 800-825-0393 with a 4-digit code that didn't work - instead there was a recorded demand for entering our social security information - no way! When the call came in I questioned this woman as to why they do business on Sunday mornings and why wasn't she in church instead of bothering us about credit cards we never requested.

Yeah they said they were with Home Depot and that I had a past due amount of more than $700. -_-  The person who left me the voicemail gave me an email from Citi. Pretty sure it's a scam if I don't have a Citi card, nor go shopping at Home Depot, and she says she is with one but has an email from another. Never called them back.

Called me saying they were from Exxon Mobil credit about a credit application.  Gave me a reference number and code to reference when calling back.  Funniest thing, they gave me the legitimate Exxon Mobil 866 number to call back.  I did, and Exxon Mobil said they had no record of the reference number.  Has to be a pfishing scam.

Might not have been a scam for you in your call, but scammers will spoof legitimate bank numbers in an attempt to scam you for your personal info. It is always best to call the number on the back of your card or from your statements when in doubt of your account.

I got a call from this number (@ 808am, June 9, 2017) and they ID'ed themselves as Citibank calling regarding fraudulent use of my credit card. They identified me by my full name and gave me the #877-443-8871 and told me to choose options 2, then, 2, then 4, to speak with a fraud representative. They also gave me a code number. This was a very credible sounding authentic phone call from Citibank!!! B-U-T :  I just got off the phone with the REAL Citibank and neither of my cards have ANY fraudulent use. So, THIS CALL WAS FRAUDULENT!! DO NOT CALL THEM BACK!! IT IS A SCAM!!!

Not a scam for me. Stated they were calling about Best Buy credit card, blah blah blah. Called the number on the back of the card and actually got the same lady that left me the message. It was regarding an attempted purchase at a store, for around $2000,  that was declined, 2 months previous. She cancelled the card and ordered me a new card.
