- Joe84I received this call 2 mins after I completed a credit app for Home Depot. The number maybe part of citi group. They need to validate some information. It was a legit call.
- Caller: Home Depot Credit
- DeaThey try every 5 minutes, they won't leave a message, and they're spoofing Office Depot.
- Caller: scammer
- EricSaid I was behind on an account that "had"
- Maura replies to RandyJust so you know, Citi handles Best Buy accounts. Just because it's citi for caller id doesn't make it fraud
- Sara replies to DebbieThat's because this number belongs to Citi Bank and they are legally allowed to make these calls
- CWG40Total scam operation. Almost 70 calls registered on this thread and at least 35% of them are scammers. Scammers are desperately trying to make everyone think the calls are legitimate. "Legitimate". They repeat that word over and over again. Looks like the scammers are now targeting the anti-scamming sites. Which makes me think 800notes is making a dent on their income.
- Caller: Informational post
- L.G.| 3 repliesNot a scam. I got a call from Citi's fraud division (an 800 #) and a text immediately afterward on Sunday, literally two minutes after my card was declined (they had put a hold on it as a precaution) I used the link on the text to initiate contact. I was told there has been a breach at a merchant and that my card info had been stolen. I verified all the information. I was asked to hang up as they called me back to complete the verification process. It's then this (423) called me back with the same man is been speaking to from citi. He was able to tell me my last 3 transactions and said he'd issue me a new card. The card came FedEx today from Citibank. My money is present and accounted for.
- Caller: CitiBank
- James replies to L.G.| 1 replyThey left a message to call 1-866-915-1472. I called and they answered immediately as Home Depot Credit and wanted my card number company and then HST. Sounded suspicious so I did not give them my HSt but card # and name was not a problem, Anyways, I called Home Depot Credit as on the back of my card and was told that 1-866-915-1472 was their number but did not know the local number. So seems legit.
- OotReceived a call, message left was "Hi, this is Staples commercial credit cards calling. We are calling in regards to a payment credit that is on the account if you could give us a call back at 800-669-5115 and reference the number 1226048. Thank you, and have a great day"
This is a scam, as I do not have a Staples credit card- Caller: Staples?
- Call type: Debt collector
- Kayoz| 2 repliesThis was a call from Citibank, she didn't ask for any personal information and knew the details of my last charges. It was in response to a possible fraud, they closed my account and are sending a new card. I did not find it suspicious due to when I logged into my account, it stated the fraud warning as well and I initiated closing the account. She only asked to verify my address, which I didn't give the city or zip and my phone number, which she already called, so wasn't concerned about that.
- Caller: Citibank
- Anyone replies to KayozConsidering scammers can spoof caller id so easily I would still be careful. Calling back directly would be much safer.
- CWG40 replies to L.G.Sounds like a ghost story to me. Seems to me you're part of this gang of shillers, who go around to different anti-scamming sites, in a vain attempt to convince people that these numbers are somehow valid.
See, thing is, usually people show up here if they've been scammed or were nearly scammed.
You, according to your narrative. were not scammed. In fact, according to you, everything turned out just fine. No scam at all. Legit, as you folks often say.
Well, just another pre-emptive shill post. You're fooling no one, you know. Read the other posts. - CoreyI received a call from this number asking about a recent credit card I opened. I have not opened or applied for a credit card. they said it was citicard. I called citicard from the web number listed on the internet and they did not make the call or see any attempts to open a card. with my information.
- Caller: they said citi card
- MollyI got a call from this number from "citi fraud dept" about my diamond citi card which i do have.... But i have no suspicious charges.. Usually if I get a call it is just an automated system asking me verify charges if i made them or not.. Either way weird... If you get a call like this always tell them that you will call them back and double check the number on the back of your card and call that number... Never ever give out any personal information to anyone
- Caller: "citi fraud dept"
- AnonymousThis is not the real citi bank calling. This is scammers faking caller id! They are phishing for your info.
- BrittanyGot a call from this number a week ago. The left a voicemail claiming to be from Citi. I called Citi at their listed customer service number from their website. They couldn't see any reason why anyone would have called me nor did they have record of someone calling me. They just called me again from a different number to tell me that my account was not current. They knew exactly how much my bill was, but my account IS current. I had just spoken with Citi last week, AND I was looking at my statement online when she called. I informed her of that, and she "checked their records" and saw that it "was current after all." She tried to get me to update my account information. I hung up on her. Total scam!
- Caller: CitiBank
- trgFraud call . I don't have an Advantage Platinum Card, but she call about it.
- Caller: 423-467-6460
- MicheleGot a call EDT 11:00PM on a Friday night saying it was Citibank Visa and someone opened an account under my social security number. I called Citibank 1800 number and there was no record of an account under my social security number. THIS IS A FRAUD!
- Caller: Said it was Citibank Visa
- Call type: Prank

Scammers Pose as Credit Card Fraud Department
A fraudulent fraud department? It may sound too wacky to be true, but scammers are now pretending to be from credit card companies' fraud departments. It's a trick to get you to reveal your card's security code.
How the Scam Works:
You answer the phone, and the caller says he/she is from your credit card's security department. This "fraud specialist" tells you that there's suspicious activity on your card. He makes up a bogus transaction and asks if you authorized it. When you reply that you never made the purchase, the "fraud specialist" offers to open an investigation into charge. The scammer may even give you a fake case number for reference.
Everything seems normal until the scammer asks one last question. Under the guise of verifying that the credit card is in your procession, he requests the security code on the back of your card. Don't give it to him; it's a scam!
In this particular con, identity thieves already have your information. They know your name, credit card number, phone number and address. Now, all they need is the security code on the back of your card. If you share it, you give the con artist the information he needs to wrack up charges in your name.
What To Do if a Fraudulent Fraud Department Calls:
•Don't give the caller any information about your account - even if he already knows some of the details.
•Pick up the phone. Call the customer service number on the back of your credit card. Talk to the fraud or security department and ask about the unauthorized charges the caller told you about.
•Phone numbers can deceive. Some con artists use Internet technology to disguise their area code in Caller ID systems. Although it may look like they're calling from your credit card company, they could be calling from anywhere in the world. - Fraud Alert replies to KayozYet another shill for the fraud posting fake testimonials here.
