- Mary N| 4 repliesI received a message. I could not tell if it was recorded . " garbled, mumbledIRS. We have been trying to reach you. This is to inform you that the IRS has filed a lawsuit against you. To get more information about this case, please call our number 425-296-1450."
I started calling that number 5 minutes later. There is no answer. No announcement of any sort. ("You have reached the Internal Revenue Services customer service" blah, blah, blah ). I called ten times and got nothing except ringing. No phone tree. No way to leave a message.
I doubt that the IRS does not have an 800 number. And they have left no other messages. And, I am sure there would be an official letter of some sort. You dont serve people legal notice with a phone message. The IRS has my email address from my returns.
Also, they left me no case#, or agent to refer to.
This does not sound credible to me. But finally someone answered "internal revenue service". The connection was so bad, it sounded like she was at a party. All I could here was 100 other people talking. She asked for my phone #. I kept yelling that I couldn't hear her. A man cam on and asked for my number and then put me on hold to get my case information. I could still hear other people shouting and talking even while on hold. Then we got disconnected. No one gave me their name. - Sam| 1 replyIs this number from the IRS?
- Caller: IRS
- MJG replies to Mary N| 2 repliesShort answer - SCAM!!!! It is NOT the IRS - but a scammer in India or Pakistan. Don't bother returning the call.
The real IRS mails letters if here is a problem. - Mary N replies to MJG| 1 replyThat's my gut feeling, too. Thanks for the support.
- MJG replies to Mary NThe regulars on 800notes are always happy to help!!
- scamThis is a scam- so, so fake. They and some others call me for my Dad and it's always a scam. Don't give them anything.
- Mary N replies to SamI've been checking. This is absolutely not the IRS. Their contact preference is via their website. They also have local numbers they can refer you to. I live in California and this bogus number is in Washington. The IRS website verified that they would send any legal notifications via the mail.
They also had a link to report any scams, so they have a record of this phone number now. - ChrisSame IRS call stating a lawsuit was pending. I blocked the call
- Jeff Beach| 1 replySame story - The lady ID herself as "officer ____" and said I was being sued by the IRS and based on an audit from 08-13 that I owed the IRS $6,582 in back taxes and interest and if I did not pay, I would be arrested within 2 hours. They had my name and address but I did not ask about my SS#.
I told her to send the police on over.- Caller: Unknow
- Annie"This call is to inform you that the IRS is filing a law suit against you. Call 425-296-1450 for more information." It was a recording. I did not call the number as the IRS does not make contact by phone.
- Caller: IRS
- NormI got the call and was smart enough not to answer. A garbled voice mail... case against me... blah, blah, blah.
- MikeGot the call and they actually left a message on my voice mail. i called and someone answered irs then got disconnected immediately. called back and was asked to leave a message. im in fl so apparently this is viral. i wont call again. i agree with Mary N the official IRS will send you documentation through the mail of any problems with tax returns. and besides its a timely process! it does not happen that fast. correspondence goes back and forth several times before any action is taken. wish i had this kind of time on my hands. Idiots!
Dont Call 425-296-1450. call the scambusters lol- Caller: Mike

- StephanieYes, I think this is a scam. The lady that called speaks bad English. I got this call today and she was looking for my husband. She has my cell phone no. and knows my husband's name. I wonder where she got this information from.
Also, she said that we have a bad tax? What is that even suppose to mean?
Thanks to all your notes that I can know for sure that this is a scam call. - RonWe got that phone call too. But they didn't ask for money they said they were from the IRS saying we owe back taxs. But me a my wife keep arguing with them so they told us there were going come have us arrested that we need to stay home for the next two hours and that the police will be there to take you to Jail. If this was the IRS they will come to you not call you and they do everything by mail.

- Chuckeyi too received this call today with same recording mentioned above.....so I picked up the phone and called back immediately. After one busy, it rang through and "officer alex" answered.
"Officer alex." I said "who ARE you?"
"Officer alex, IRS," he replied.
I said, "I don't THINK so. Get off my phone."
Of course, he hung up, but I know this is how people get scammed...especially now.
Don't fall for this!!!! - Sarah| 1 replyDisgusting, the guy was a disgusting pig! I laughed at his scam and he asked me if I am free tonight and said he bet I was "wet right now" talking to him. Eeeew!!!
But he knew my first and last name, so that's creepy, and he spoke with a heavy accent. I asked him to speak English, he said he was, I said, "No you're not, speak English," which made him angry.
Apparently I'm going to be arrested by the IRS police in two hours. I asked if people really fall for this scam, and I asked, "How do you actually make money? People just GIVE you money?" He screamed "I am the IRS police!!!"
WHATEVER. it's good for a laugh if you feel like answering and just swearing at someone you don't know. I'm usually a good person, so it's nice to unleash all the bad words on a quick phone call!- Caller: NOT the irs
- Paul LeibleMessage left on my answering machine at home about a pending IRS lawsuit and needing to call 425 296-1450 immediately. The mumbled non sense at the number was amazing to say the least. These scammers should rot in Hell.
