- Jennifer replies to BrendaI just the same phone message. I reported this as well. Thanks for the tip!
- C Bock| 1 replyOf course this is a scam, so I tried to scam them back. I called them back and acted as "scared" as I could be... he--he. Tried to get them to ask for a bank number, SS # what ever. Anyway looks like they are looking for people with cash in hand probable would want it western unioned away. No trace that way. Sounds like India somewhere but no chickens in the background this time. Before a scammer posing as a owner of a beach house in San diego wanted me to western express the rent. He said he lived in San Diego and I heard a rooster in the background (it was after dark in SD roosters crow in the morning hours mostly) You cant make this up its just too funny. It is sad that as we get older or lower cognitive folks cant figure out who to trust. Always use creditcards not debit, pay pal or western union. Credit card co are required (good old US law) to take the risk, you are on the hook for the others. Oh Well bring em on..... I,m bored ;-)
- R replies to RI blocked my number and called back, no answer. I decided to suffer whatever fate awaits me by calling back without blocking my number and, VOILA, someone picked up the phone! He had a slight Indian accent and said he was with the US Treasury Department. I said I had gotten a message from this number, then I asked him for his Treasury Agent ID Number. He asked me why I needed it, and I told him because I'm an attorney (which is true) and would love to know what court date I was allegedly served with that I possibly missed. He hung up on me. The Treasury Department must be coming after me because I asked too many questions, oh noes!
I immediately called back twice to mess with the guy a little more, and he wouldn't pick up.
I encourage you all to mess with these people! It's fun, and it gives them less time to find people who will fall for it. - R replies to C BockMessing with them is so much fun! I got a manager on one of those fake IRS calls, and he got so frustrated with me that he told me never to call there again. I'm sure if I really owed the IRS money, they wouldn't tell me to F off!
I say we all mess with them because it frustrates them and gives them less time for the people who fall for these scams. - DRSame message happened to me this am, was on my Home VM
- TXCruiseProI too returned the call for amusement value. I got to speak with "Austin Skylar" badge # 117086. Distinct Indian/Pakistani accent for a person who claimed to be in Pennsylvania. He claimed a representative attempted to visit me on August 2nd, but I was not home. I asked why they did not leave a notice, etc etc. I asked how much I owed and after some delay he told me I owed $6930 for 2010 taxes and insisted on knowing if I had immediate access to that kind of money. He was going to send me to a Supervisor to resolve this matter, but I informed him that I was a member of the FBI Anti-Fraud taskforce and we wanted an address to come visit him. He said he had to hang up.

- JeanneCall from the IRS, and a foreign man talking softly said that I owed $6300.00. Threaten to freeze my account and take my license.

- DougCo ColoradoMale voice, British accent, using the exact "David Gray" script shown above, left a voice mail message on my landline 9/29/15. I might mess with "David Gray" and call him back. I'll keep everyone posted regarding the true intent of the calls. At some point, they are going to be asking for money--credit card info, banking info, etc.

- MicheleYes, I got a call from this "David Gray", too, about some US Treasury problem. Guy had a slight foreign accent (sounds East Indian) and the background sounded cheap for lack of a better word. He left a 425-678-3622 number to call him back. It was also the number on my caller i.d. I really wish they'd stop this stuff. *sigh*
- M.L.Received exact same voice mail from this "David Gray from Treasury", asked me to call back at 425-678-3622 to avoid criminal charge. Knew it was a scam. Checked in here, seems he's really busy trying to get some victims. Don't fall for that.

- anonymous"David Gray" calling to inform me that the Feds are after me and I better call him back.
- RI called again for fun and got a lady with a distinct Indian accent. I asked her why I was getting a call from the Treasury Department in Washington State. She just said, "Mm-hmm," so I asked again and asked for her agent ID number. She again said, "Mm-hmm," and after a couple of seconds in silence added, "What would you like?" I said, "Well, you left me a message, and I asked you three questions. Are you going to answer any of my questions?" She answered, "No, I'm not going to answer any of your questions," and hung up on me.

- JupiterYes, I have been having the same trouble about David grey and appearing before a magistrate, thought I should Google the number and this is what came up, I appreciate all of you for leaving your comments to help me out in discovering what is actually going on. thanks again
- TimikeI got a call from this number. Left a message about if I don't resolve an outstanding issue with the US Treasury, I could be arrested. I called back and when a gentleman picked up, I told him that I will call FBI if he continues to harass people.
He was shocked and just said Ok. - HerbMy wife received a call from 425-678-3622 to which this person (who was hard to understand as it was!!!) threatened her with arrest if she didn't comply with his demands. The name he gave was Richard Connor (yeah right!!), badge # 11046247 and said he was from the US Treasury Department. He told her that our taxes had been filed incorrectly for the year 2010 and that, at that time, we still owed over $3000. He said it had incurred 1.5% per month which left us owing $6930. She strongly protested this, stating that we never received any info for this. EVER!!! He said that a letter had been mailed in the year 2011. He got quite "strong" about this and threatened that if she didn't resolve this matter and hung up the phone that an IRS agent and a Detective would be at our door within the hour to arrest her. He stated that the warrant had already been issued and that he was calling to give her the opportunity to settle this account now. She was furious with him...asked him to hold on. He asked "Who are you discussing this with!" She had already told him this once and said she wasn't going to do that again. She also told him that THIS is NOT how our government works. They don't threaten without cause or proof!! She wanted proof. She muted him and looked up the USDT fraud hotline but they were closed...she'll call it again in the morning. She could hear him panicking..and repeatedly saying "Do you hear me? Are you listening to me? I'm going to hang up!!!" So she took him off of muted him and told him that if he was who he said he was, then he would have patience and let her go through her information to verify what he was saying. At that point she was pretty irate...in a very diplomatic way, of course. He then panicked further and said he was hanging up...and did just that. PLEASE BE AWARE!! DON'T LET THESE SCAM ARTISTS DESTROY YOU!!! She's going to share this information on Facebook to try and alert others to this scam. Thank goodness she has a strong heart at her age and was able to get past this. Her nerves were frazzled!!! Thank God I was home!!!

- In SC| 1 replyReceived call 425-678-3622 from foreign person saying their name was Joseph Litt, Badge #117087, with the US Treasury stating there's a problem with my tax return and that I owed $6,930.00. They threatened a federal warrant and that someone would be at my door in 2 hours. Beware, this is a scam! Just wondering how my information was received by this person and if it a result from the IRS hacking that happened a while back. Please do something to stop these calls from happening!

If someone calls saying he's an IRS agent and demands that you send money immediately, hang up.
It's a phone scam.In fact, it tops the IRS "Dirty Dozen" list of tax scams this year, and it's been surging in recent months, the agency said Thursday.
The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA), which oversees the IRS, has received reports of 290,000 scam calls since October 2013 and said nearly 3,000 victims have been swindled out of $14 million so far.
By altering their caller ID number to make it look like they're calling from an IRS office, these scammers often threaten vulnerable people like the elderly and new immigrants with things like arrest, deportation or the loss of their driver's license if they don't pay immediately for money purportedly owed.
Often leaving messages that say it's "urgent" you call them back, the scammers use common names and sometimes say they are from the IRS Criminal Division. They may even claim to know the last four digits of your Social Security number and send follow-up emails that appear to be from the IRS, TIGTA said.
They often demand that payments be made by prepaid debit card.
Once they make their threats, the scammers have been known to call back and again disguise their caller ID so it appears they are calling from the police department or the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).
Or sometimes when they call, they may say you have a refund due and ask you to provide personal information so you can claim it.
The real IRS will usually contact you by regular mail first, if it needs to contact you at all. And the agency never demands immediate payment by phone or asks for credit card or debit numbers if they do call. It also never asks for personal or financial information by email, text or social media.
If you get what you suspect is a scam call, report it to TIGTA through its Web site or call 800-366-4484.
