I received a message from a "David Grey" indicating it was a 2nd attempt to reach me.  I called back the following day and asked for "David Grey" and the person answering said he wasn't there and asked me for my telephone number.  I told him before I released any personal information, I needed the company name, tax ID #, address and type of business to research to ensure it was a legitamate call.  The person hung up on me.  HA!  This is a hoax and I knew that already.

received 2 calls today. After reading these posts I called back for thrills. Name they gave was Joseph Litt. Same story as above- i will need a criminal lawyer for r=fraud on my 2010 tax return. When I challenged him he didn't flitch. Actually it sounded like he was laughing at me. I gave him a bit of a hard time but he seemed unfazed. Incredible  that people actula do this for a living, but even more incredible that others fall for it!

I've experienced this before and I'm amazed that the FCC or even the the IRS can't seem to be able to put a stop to this. I feel bad for those who fell victim to this scam or others like it.

Nothing much the FBI can do. These calls are originating from a VOIP server in India that spoofs hundred of different phone numbers and caller IDs. Supposedly the operation has netted serious money because there are millions of people in the US who really are cheating on their taxes and think they have finally been caught, so they pay up.

Got a message on my machine from someone purporting to be from the U.S. Treasury telling me to call. The message was the same as reported in earlier posts:
Hi, my name is David Gray, and this message is intended to contact you regarding an enforcement action executed by the United States Treasury requiring your serious attention.
Ignoring this will be an intentional second attempt to avoid an initial appearance before a magistrate judge or a grand jury for a federal criminal attempt.
My number is 425-678-3622. I repeat, its 425-678-3622.
I'd like you to call and help us to help you.

I hung up and googled the number.  Thank you to everyone for reporting the scam.

Do consider getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $40.00 or so.If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number.

They call from this number & they also call from 214-612-6098.
I was pissed.  I knew it was a scam & they didn't care one iota when I went off on them.  So, I used Spoofcard & called them back at least 20 times (using FBI, CIA, etc. phone numbers as Caller ID numbers--I kept changing the number every time I called!) .  The same man & woman kept answering the phone "Department of Treasury" and with the voice changer, I had a field day with them!  Believe it or not, they were getting pissed at the calls!  I am going to call them multiple times a day forever!  It would be great if we all called them with Spoof numbers & drove them totally insane. You could hear the frustration in their voices.  I'm going to use Spoofcard to call back all of these harassers!  I'm sick of these calls & I'm fighting back.  I already made complaints to all of the agencies suggested & it was a complete waste of time!  I'm mad as hell & I'm not going to take it anymore!  Please join in!  Their reactions & frustrations are priceless!

OK, I called Time Warner to complain about this scam (the 425-678-3622 number is a Time Warner landline).  TW said I had to make a online complaint on their web site (TWC.com).  So, I logged on to TW's web site & then to the Live Chat screen.  I typed & sent my complaint about this scam (using a TW phone) to the live agent.  To make a long story short, the agent confirmed it is a Time Warner phone.  I told the TW agent that I want this guy criminally prosecuted, etc.  I even referred him to this site to read the other complaints about this IRS scam using a Time Warner phone.  The agent assured me that my complaint would be taken seriously & that he had already sent it to his superiors for further action including shutting down this phone & review for prosecution.  I said that only telephone providers have the power to stop this & that I was going to follow up to make sure that TW acted appropriately in response to my complaint, etc. etc.   You can call Time Warner at 888-TW-CABLE to complain about this.  I reminded TW that this guy is guilty of not only fraud & extortion but also violations of RICO & similar statutes; & now that TW knows of the scam, it has a duty to not only turn off Mr. Treasury's phone but also to prosecute him to the full extent of the law.  I said this is not some kid asking if we have Prince Albert in a can.

What I do realize it that this piece of scum is using Time Warner equipment, technology & network protocals to violate I don't know how many different federal, state & local criminal & civil statutes.  TW, therefore, has the standing to demand from law enforcement that this lowlife be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.  TW doesn't hesitate to prosecute for any person bootlegging its cable services & this is much more serious.  Furthermore, now that TW is aware of this scam, if TW fails to take any action & allows this scum to continue using its equipment, etc to perpetrate this scam, it will be liable for any resulting damages or injuries, of any kind, to any person who is victimized by this scam.  So, do I really have to answer your question about whether or not I realize TW is not law enforcement?
