Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.

I received the same call**I don't know what to do***

I received the same threatening message, and since they didn't ask for my name, the bullying,  pre-recorded message was for another person - wrong phone number.  This scared me and I consider it a false accusation,  harassment,  and bullying. I talked to a few reps and was hung up on, bad mouthed, and given false information. This needs to stop!!

Johnston Baker call and said that he was calling from PTI Services and that me and my attorney need to call him back, that I was charged with fraud of unpaid loan, and that I stole the company money

Phone calls mean NOTHINBG!!  Demand WRITTEN proof that is mailed to you.  Please read Tamianth's comments ^^^  about the law & contacts.

I got the same call from him and actually contacted an attorney about it. He confirmed this was a scam. I got quite a bit of information from him...

203 West Grand Prairie Suite 303 75050 Pretty sure that's not a real address but it's a start. Calling him back to "pay him", going to try to get a name or something else in order to "write a check to him".
