- kittiejunk call to my cell phone.
- Caller: Parma O
- Call type: Prank
- Fed Up with These Scumbags| 4 repliesThese are awful, disgusting, tenacious scammers. I can now block them on my land line, but a couple of times a year they even SEND SOMEONE TO MY DOOR to bother me, and now have started calling my cell phone almost every day. They've been pests for years and years, falsely claiming that I qualify for electric bill reductions, most likely with the intent, if they could con my into believing them, to get id theft info from me. There are lots of scammers out there, but none as annoying or unwilling to let go and realize they'll never get me to fall for their scam as this group in Cleveland (or at least using Cleveland numbers)
- Caller: Fake electric company
- Call type: Telemarketer
- Resident47 replies to Fed Up with These Scumbags| 3 repliesTypically the home visits aim for one thing, your power supplier account number to facilitate bill slamming. Otherwise the talk of "electric bill savings" is bait on the hook for a solar panel project, one which the homeowner will be essentially renting. Either way the object is to redirect your monthly payments to someplace other than the incumbent supplier, and not to ensure that you ever realize any cost benefit.
Elsewhere you wrote: "They've been doing this for at least 7 or 8 years, maybe 10 or more. ... Whatever scammers do this, I wish to hell they could be thrown in jail or something to stop it. It's amazing how long it's gone on, and how they use every method of contacting me there is."
People like you are placed repeatedly in a good position to gather information useful to law enforcement: media recordings, vehicle descriptions and license plates, agent descriptions, company paperwork, and so on. The fraud factory never shuts down because no one seizes that opportunity to locate the hydra heads and lop them off in court for TCPA damages or anything else applicable to a deceptive business. You can only sit by the wishing well for so long, until you understand that you must mount your own rescue while the black hats outnumber the whites. - North of CMHWhite Pages list this number as a Medium Threat Definitely a potential scam or slam
- BitMasterNo caller ID but they leave a message asking you to call 440-809-8372 and have a copy of your electric bill. They want your account number for who knows what. SCAM! Do not call them back for any reason!
- Call type: Telemarketer
- FedUpWithTheScumbags replies to Resident47| 2 repliesThat's interesting, as to what their game is. I always thought their con was "To get these savings, we need some information about you...Social Security #, (then a bunch of other things for ID theft)." It's instead for slamming or getting me renting solar panels (which I rent my apartment, so would have nowhere to put such panels, and if I did, I could certainly get a far better deal from a reputable company). Still a scam, but a different one than I realized.
- Resident47 replies to FedUpWithTheScumbagsPlain old ID theft is possible, but then why bother with sending sales flunkies to your doorstep? It would be far cheaper to claim that you've won a fat prize and get you talking on the phone through arbitrary hoops.
- Resident47 replies to FedUpWithTheScumbagsOne other issue is that the initial caller may not be a supplier at all but a lead generator which adopts a sound-alike industry name and therefore cannot tell you in advance which company will try to prospect you. This is certainly the case with the solar panel hucksters and alarm system slugs. References to related threads I had knocking about my files:
